Have to say I find driving down I-75 to WC an easier drive that the back way to Clermont. But when the need arrives to drive to Clermont, will stop. Heading to AF base, then WC tomorrow so good to go for awhile

Actually, if you are referring to driving distance, from the Sawgrass Grove market to the Clermont Costco is about 30 miles. But, from the Sawgrass Grove market to Sam's Club is only 15 miles. This is according to Google Maps.

I was referring to time travel, not miles - for those in Lake Denham/Dabney, and the future villages around 470, it is only a 20 minute turnpike ride from 470 down to the Highway 50 exit in Clermont - add a few more minutes to drive to the Costco after exiting the turnpike, and “timewise” those folks can get to Costco quicker than driving surface roads up to BJS and Sam’s Club way up North - I’ve timed both.

I know! I actually drove there thinking it was open a couple weeks ago and was so disappointed it wasn't done yet, lol. I've been going to Sam's Club and I don't like it anywhere near as much as Costco, mainly because of the Kirkland brand and because the meat in Sam's Club is not as good. I bought some sirloin steak from Sam's and it was not even 3/4 of an inch thick. I went to Sam's Club in Orlando and the New York strip was almost 2 inches thick.

Far from being all the same. We use Sam's and Costco for different products. Tried BJ's again but just didn't measure up. Everyone has their own needs so if you think one is better than another go there, but by most National comparisons, they are not the same.

It was crowded if you didn’t have a card already, but what a nice set up once inside. The wine department was very nice. I’ve always liked the exit though. Hotdog and drink still a 1.50. The drive was just short of a half hour from St Catherine.

Clermont may be a bit closer to us (LSL area) down 27. Will give it a try, but usually just go to Winter Park and make a day of it; Costco, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods all in relative proximity. Used to make a stop at Nothin Bundt. Dropped that one since we got one here now. We enjoy a lot of Winter Park restaurants, so hit one of them for an early dinner making all the shopping just an enjoyable outing !

LOL ! That brought a smile to my face, I was thinking "too crowded", I wonder if you've ever observed the opening day of a KFC outlet in the Villages ? ? People line up before dawn and the lines goes 3X around the building as if none of them has ever been to KFC in their life. I think "openings" of any kind, are just exciting to many people, and really repulsive to others. I usually tend to wait for the "newness" to wear off a bit..... LOL !

Where are the posts by the people who went to the Costco opening today?
Hubby and I went. We were under the impression the warehouse opening time was 10:00. Come to find out, the grand opening was set for 8:00 but since the line was around the building, the doors opened at 7:30.
The parking lots had cars trolling for spots. We found a parking spot when a car pulled out of the spot, after driving around for 15 minutes. The inside of the warehouse was very crowded. Costco had plenty of samples but I guess we were too late for any freebee gifts.
We were inside the warehouse for about an hour. When we came out, the parking situation was so much worse. Some guy who was walking while his wife drove their van, said they had been trying to find a parking spot for 20 minutes. As I walked with the shopping cart to return the cart to the corral, some woman said to me, "Congratulations". Too funny!
We were at BJ's grand opening and there was no where near the interest and crowds as this Clermont Costco generated.

Surprisingly, we pulled right up to one of the 12 gas pumps. This was at 9:45 in the morning of the grand opening. We were surprised to see so few cars; there was no line at all.

Note that the comment about the pharmacy policy is a requirement of the Florida state law. A state licensed pharmacy is not allowed to charge a membership fee to buy prescription drugs. Sam's Club has the same policy.

To answer your question, no $ incentives this one in Clermont is closer and it a LOT lot less congested. Went to the Millenial mall location and it took 20 minutes to get out of parking lot on 11/11(Saturday) and went to new store on following Saturday(11/18) and it took 1 minute to get out of parking lot. Not normal to go so often. We picked up relatives at MCO and were gong down there anyway.

Sams and Costco carry different products. Costco has customer service above and beyond anywhere you have ever shopped.
Up north with in 30 minutes of our house we had 4 Costcos and 2 Sam’s 40 minutes away.
Every month we drove to base commissary, then Sam’s Costco and Trader Joe’s

The allure is that they only sell quality products, their maximum markup over their cost on all items is 15%, they have a return policy that is second to none, on most electronics they will double the standard warranty. The $60 membership is a drop in the bucket compared to what you can save in 1-2 trips.
They also sell excellent rotisserie chicken and hot dogs below their cost to their members.
There's a reason that 130 million people pay for the privilege to shop there.

We have been members at both Costco and Sam's Club for many years. There are a few products we prefer to get at Sam's, plus until recently, Sam's was much closer than Costco. However, when looking at identical products, I have not found Sam's to be any less expensive. With the opening of the new Costco in Clermont, our Sam's Club membership may be in jeopardy.
If you have a Costco Executive membership ($120/year), you get cash back rewards on all of your purchases. In fact, Costco guarantees you will save at least the cost of your membership in a year's time, or they will make up the difference for you. Customer service? Costco wins by a mile. After all, Sam's is just a large Walmart.
A huge benefit not known by all is the availability of Costco Travel. Whether it's cruises, air fare, rental cars, hotels...they can save you a LOT of money, aside from simply having the best rates/fares. We recently completed an Australia/New Zealand/South Pacific/Hawaii cruise that was booked through Costco Travel. Besides having the lowest overall cost we could find anywhere, Costco added another bonus: when we got home, we received a $950 Costco Cash Card. We will never get rid of our Costco membership.
