Need a reasonable handyman to fix our running toilet. It's in a patio villa north of 466A.

Thanks

You tube it. And you can probably fix it yourself. We had to fix ours it’s pretty easyLol I’ve never done it but my husband did.

Probably the gasket at the bottom of the flush canister. Gasket $7-$8. Check YouTube for install instructions. Easy.

Check the flapper first (very easy to change). But you can get a full replacement kit at Lowes or Home Depot that comes with instructions. All you need is a pair of pliers. The hard part is getting all the water out of the tank, but remember, IT'S CLEAN WATER, it's the same water coming out of your faucet.

A running toilet can be caused by one of two problems. Most likely, it is caused by a defective gasket or flapper at the bottom of the tank. These are easy to replace. Another possibility is that you have a leaking fill valve, which requires replacement of the plastic pipe and valve mechanism usually located on the left side of the tank. This is a more difficult repair, but it is still a relatively easy DIY project. If the toilet is running continually, you will be wasting a lot of water.

If you don't want to attempt a DIY, here are some handyman numbers:

Harry Pollock, 734-621-1046
Joe Podraski, 814-660-3848
Or, you can call any plumber, such as Mike Scott, 866-314-4443.

The tube that the water refill hose runs in, broke off at the base, so that needs to be replaced, I think the whole assembly needs to be replaced. I have very little in the way of tools, so I need a competent handyman.

Personally, I would call a plumber, not a handyman.

The hard part is getting all the water out of the tank.

I just did mine last week, wet / dry vac sucked everything out of the tank and the bowl within 3 minutes after flushing everything with a bucket of water. .

There are simple solutions for everything. .

Unless it is very complicated, a handyman should be able to fix it. I am nowhere near a handyman and I have made several repairs on my previous home. Shouldn’t cost more than $20 for parts and it shouldn’t take more than hour.

I agree with above, however, there was one when I did ours, the small rubber gasket on the water supply line stuck on the toilet connection. I replaced all of the internals, and got a bath when I turned on the water, then I found the missing gasket......

Its a toilet in a Villa for gods sake not the ****ter in the space shuttle. Any 1/2 competent Handyman can fix this issue, why in the world would you pay triple for a licensed plumber?

I would be happy to help you resolve the issue.
While I am not a licensed plumber, I do have over 16 years of owning a property maintenance company in NY and able to fix your toilet.

I would agree if the plumber is really 3 times the cost, but I'm not sure of that estimate. A handyman is not as reasonable as they used to be. I feel very comfortable replacing a flapper or a fill valve mechanism, but replacing a broken overflow tube is not a common toilet issue. I have never seen that happen.

Thanks, but me and my buddy were able to fix it easy. 15 minutes after a trip to Lowes.

Josh Poole can fix anything. He just replaced the pressure release valve yesterday for me (patio villa).

I am the least handy person in the world, and I can fix these toilet issues. You'll save yourself a lot of money in the long run if you deal with it, because it'll happen again and again.

I would never call a plumber or a handyman to replace a flapper, gasket, or a fill valve. But, the YouTube video on replacing a broken overflow tube showed the guy removing the tank from the bowl, which would be difficult for me. Have you ever replaced a broken overflow tube? I have never encountered one that broke.

Do a search on You Tube to see how to fix it. It is probably an easy fix.

Jeff is your man for this and anything else you will need in the future. His prices are reasonable and quality of workmanship is excellant.

The issue has been resolved. But it is helpful to get names of handymen. People will need them at some point!
