Most of the posts are repeats of conversations that those in Sumter posted when we moved here about the short comings south of 466A. Then the same conversations showed up when south of 44 showed up. And they continue now as newbies move in. Totally understandable, the migration of TV.

The only concern(?) I have with all the expansion going on with the Villages, as well as other new development is the possible water shortage that some predict. All the other subjects of conversation are fleas on a hound dog.

:1rotfl: heard the same comments when TV was moving south of CR466.
At the time Buena Vista south of 466 was a two lane road where two vehicles could barely pass.

It sounds to me like the Developers aren't really interested in the opinions of people who already bought their houses. If they cared, they'd consider - not expanding.

It's their property, their money, their headache. Until they pawn it off to the homeowner and the next CDD. And then it's not their problem anymore. Such is life in The Villages.

South of 44 will eventually be the be best area to live in as commercial properties are developed along 44 and 301 assuming that you are not near powerlines and the turnpike. They have the best amenities and the new homes have included enhancements and options that were not available in previous phases. Plus it has quick access to I75 and the turnpike which will be improved when the 301 expansion is completed in 2028. As a previous poster said developers develop.
There was another post stating that developers do not listen to the people.
They do listen to the people that is why The Villages is expanding.
People want to live here, the only thing that is going to stop the expansion is when either they run out of buyers or the land because of scarcity becomes too expensive to turn a profit.
At the end of the day almost like everything else, profits are the motivator.

HELLO! You bet there is expansion in The Villages, but do you really think it's only The Villages. It's everywhere, not only across this country, across the world. One day long after I'm gone there will be a tree in a museum and a picture of grass. If you were in the developers shoes you would be doing the same thing. Oh my the nerve of the developer to cause such angst. That said, we moved from a small bedroom community that began to expand and many comments there could be heard as are placed here. Oh the thought of more homes, stores etc. being built---such a travesty! (sarcasm intended) The developer does listen but he's got a business plan that was put into place many years ago. As for the roads etc.----they're made by the county and they have actual engineers who plan them. People come and are at first (emphasis made on "at first") impressed so they buy. They settle in THEN the complaints begin by saying "no one told me------(fill in the blank). Up north when folks complained they were called NIMBY's (Not In My Back Yard).

Or they might stop developing when the people they placed in elected offices in the counties they do business in, start listening to their constituents who say "stop letting them develop here."

And then the elected officials in our counties might tell the Developer: "sorry - no more zoning exceptions for you. This is agricultural land. You wanna grow a farm, great. Apartments/houses/rec center/commercial property? No can do."

Some seem to need something to worry about. Some look at their lawn and see it is green others look at the same lawn and see the weeds.

It has always been so. People criticize others. It is their fault. That is, it is not my fault.

A famous man said that wars and pestilence keep the human population under control. As far as"money taking precedence over everything" sometimes HEALTH takes precedence over everything. If a Doctor tells a person that they have incurable cancer and have a month to live, would money REALLY take precedence over that?
..........For an All-Star Major League baseball player - is money the only motivation or do they also LOVE the competition and the thunderous applause of 50,000 spectators?
............Has there NEVER been a situation in history where someone chose LOVE over MONEY?

Actually no, if I was a developer I'd do what many developers have done to give back to their communities: I'd help develop a Land Trust to preserve a portion of undeveloped land to remain undeveloped.

OK then IF we assume that we have an upcoming water shortage then it is incumbent upon EVERY resident to remove their sod grass lawns and replace them with beautiful and durable rock gardens. That subtraction for water usage on lawns would solve any potential water shortage. So, in the interest of public service and general goodwill, we should all do what I am doing tonight - getting a shovel and ripping out my grass. And then will call in a truck for rocks tomorrow. Do it now........together we are strong......and no need for permits!

The ecology requires plantlife. Without flowers, there are no pollinators. Without pollinators, there is no food.

Also, 100% stone yards = the need for weedkillers = really REALLY bad for nature.

On the other hand, sod is a waste of space, especially in Central Florida where you can't even have real actual grass. Better to have a wildscape than either a "lawn" or rockbeds.

Not sure how how much exploring you do around TV, but there are vast amounts of undeveloped land out there. Take the backroads, head up toward Ocala or head over to Inverness and explore the back roads. We can have a myopic view inside the bubble, but there is plenty of open spaces (and some with For Sale signs). By the way, your definition of giving back eventually has the cost falling back on the Trust which, when runs out of money, falls back on the residents. There is no free "give back".

You are absolutely correct. I got my smile of the day reading your list. So what happens to the thousands of skilled, tax paying construction workers?

The counties/cities are enjoying the windfall tax revenue.
