View Full Version : Beach/Lagoon coming to Eastport?

So watched Jerry and Linda yesterday and they had a question on a beach coming to the Villages. The question mentioned one of those Lagoon type development companies. I could swear I heard a similar rumor a few years ago.

Anyhow Jerry and Linda's answer was that they called and indeed a beach is coming to the Eastport area. I could only imagine any "beach" would be in a lagoon type pool. I would doubt a beach on the new dragon boat lake because of gators.

So what do you all think?

Really? Why post a reply at all? Okay I’ll assume you really don’t know.

So what do you all think about the possibility of a lagoon/beach coming to the villages? Have you heard any rumors or news? Do you like the idea? Any other thoughts on the subject?

See dewilson, that’s how Internet forums work. Someone posts a topic and sometimes it’s a specific question and other times it’s an open ended discussion, such as my post. Unfortunately sometimes trolls post ridiculous comments/criticisms and that can make a fun subject turn into crap. So thanks.

Personally, I cannot imagine anything worse than a Beach Lagoon set up in TV. There will be so many people trying to use that facility it will turn into a major complaint ............. and that is just what we need in TV, something else to complain about!

By calling a Villages sales rep, they confirmed a beach style lagoon is coming to the Villages area. Jerry said in the Eastport area. Linda quickly chimed in and said that it would be nice for the kids. Whether Eastport or Middleton, a sandy lagoon is coming to this area.

Doesn’t matter who posts a troll post. I’ve been around forums long enough to know a troll post. It’s a discussion forum and he must know that if he’s been around a while. Unless I’m wrong and this forum only allows specific questions and answers.

Darling.............your question was wide open.

Did you hear rumors?
Is it coming?
Who will own it?
Will there be a cost?
Will you use it??
Who do I call for facts, not opinions?
Where will it be located??
Will it be year-round??
Villagers only, Villagers & Guests, Public use??
What will the capacity limit be??
Food & Drink??
Will it survive financially??
Will amenity fees pay for it??

To name a few.

There is a lot to think about.

https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/villages-florida-general-discussion-73/caribbean-lagoon-coming-villages-320441/index2.html

Keep in mind, Crystal Lagoons doesn’t build the beach for the sake of the beach, it’s part of a cool system for industrial development. So along with the beach comes a large industrial complex.

It’s a shame you felt the need to defend yourself simply for asking people to engage in harmless dialogue regarding a possible beach/lagoon. If people viewing your question don’t want to participate, they should simply scroll past this thread. I’m convinced that certain people want others to be as miserable as they are. Hopefully you won’t be dissuaded from making future posts.

Pay attention to how most of these TV you tubers start their dialog:
- We are not associated with The Villages
- I am not a licensed real estate broker
- I have no formal training
- I offer no more than my own personnel experience
However I feel perfectly at ease now to give out false information based upon no research and my tenure of living in TV for (pick a number between 1-5 years).

So based upon myself doing no homework on this subject whatsoever I can tell you there will be no gators due to the fact the lake will be salt water connected directly to the Atlantic Ocean via canal just above Orlando.

I recall a year or so ago, Don Wiley showed in the plans for East Port, that the far end of the lake they built for dragon boat racing was to have a beach area. Not big enough for what a company like ADËLON Capital would build. I’m guessing like the beach areas across from Sumter Landing on Palmer Legends Golf Course, more aesthetic than functional.

There's a "beach area" on the Palmer golf course?

I'm just curious. It has to be on the Riley Grove 9, as that's the area across from Sumter Landing?

I play there frequently and never noticed the beach. I must be hitting it straight on the hole with the beach, because I've never noticed any bikini clad women when I go to hit a shot.

I really like that ! Open ended questions and civil written discussion, minus the emotionally laden language, name calling, overt and covert insults to others intellectual ability, education, and all the rest of it. Wonderful, I love that structure where you actually learn how others think and from what experiences they come. Hope it becomes the standard on here, and that it lasts ! So here goes:

What do I think ? So few details but from the very few described here I'd say it would be a positive addition and I would probably take advantage of it. Would it cut down on the number of trips per month I make to the Gulf, or a bit further over to Daytona or Ormand.... hummm... yes, probably. Not quite like the peace and relaxation of the ocean, but I think it would be a really nice addition to our county for everyone's enjoyment, or to the Villages as a resident's only amenity ! Now, to take this way off topic, as these discussions seem to go (just like real conversations take many turns as they continue), I would "trade" a lagoon type swimming opportunity for a big, beautiful, shiny bright line station, with FREE parking, right in the middle of the Villages at last connecting us to airports, cruise terminals, and major cities ! ! I'd vote for that !

One of their viewers heard Crystal Lagoon had plans to build in the Villages. To check on the accuracy of this information, Jerry called a representative of the Villages. He asked if a BEACH, not a lagoon, was coming to the Villages. The representative's response was yes, there will be a BEACH in the Eastport Area. It sounds like this may be the area the representative was referring to. Like so many, I am not a big fan of Jerry and Linda. They give out misinformation frequently.

I can’t believe that this has raised its head again. Not going to happen for the many reasons as I discussed in my previous post the last time this came up. The developer will not give up control of this much commercial property, the land is too valuable within the villages, this is a heat sink for a thermal plant that doesn’t exist or on the radar for being planned, senior citizens aren’t exactly the target demographic for a water park, the list goes on, my sources all got a good belly laugh the last time I discussed it with each of them.

Lol the water levels in the ponds N of 44 are down so far there are soon going to be plenty of "lagoon" beaches in the N parts of T V. Grab a towel, sand castle bucket and beach chair and make it a day right in your own areas without needing to head S of 44.

I saw a post a while back of people who paid premiums on "waterfront" lots complaining about the weeds and unkept grass growth in the water depleted ponds. Very upset waterfront lol owners.

Curious but how are the ponds doing from say St Catherine and Fenney areas towards 44?

I ask because I get that surface water and water management in general enables T V to build and fill ponds but I find it interesting, having just taken a jolly-ride through the new "center of T V", that the new sales areas by Eastport have full water levels in them, no beaches lol and other areas of T V are down what looks like about 5 - 6 ft.

I believe I have heard that T V moves water around. Just wondering if they need to move water back toward houses that they already sold or does the rain mysteriously fill sale areas first, wink wink?

There are already some lagoons in Florida that use the Crystal Lagoon technology. Called Metro Lagoons. See Who We Are | MetroLagoons (https://www.metrolagoons.com/who-we-are/) There are two from this company near Wesley Chapel (where a Costco is, so someone could go check out the lagoon, do some shopping, and report back to us!)

Metro Lagoons are open to the public but sometimes have "residents only" events for people that bought at the properties. See Epperson | Luxury Resort-Style Living in Wesley Chapel (https://www.metroplaces.com/community/epperson/) for an example of their communities (these are not retirement communities).

I don't think The Villages one will be a Metro Lagoon but will be using the same underlying technology, the Crystal Lagoon.

Our son lives in Wesley Chappel and near their home is Epperson Pond, it is a man made beach water area. Kayaking, standup paddle boarding, swimming and slide play area for kids, it seems very popular and well run. It is not free to residents but a fee. I think something like this would be very popular in this area. I know my grandkids would love to go when they come to visit!

I too had head that one of those lagoon water park facilities was being built in Sumter County. I believe that I had read a press release type article about it around a year ago? Those facilities are typically built next to power plants as they use the water cooling of the plant to heat the water of the pools. If you find the future power facility south of the turnpike you might have your answer about the where?

In the "southern areas" (St. Catherine, etc) our ponds were way down as they filled the ponds in Newell, etc. this past spring. Then it rained over the summer and they were way up again - higher then I even saw them in my 2.5 years. Now they are way down again as they fill the ponds around Eastport (you can even hear the water rushing through the pipes as you drive over the storm drains). They will be up again soon - no big deal!

What’s all this Jerry and Linda bashing??? They seem like nice people who give their take on living in TV. They always state they are giving their opinions but do try and find out answers to questions that viewers send them. They are certainly not rah-rah, pro-company as they’ve often been critical or at least questioning about TV operations of all kinds. I found them very informative and helpful before moving to TV especially since I was coming from out of state and did not know the area very well. However, I haven’t watched their YouTube videos in a couple of years so perhaps they’ve changed their content and emphasis.

They will be up again soon - no big deal!

Ahhh, NO! The systems are not interconnected as you think and they (District Property Management) cannot move water anywhere they want. There are various zone of the system and water can easily be moved between basins within a zone and in a few cases north of 44 some movement is available between zones, but this is rare. Go to the districtgov.org website and you can find the storm water management system diagrams that clearly show this Useful Maps (https://www.districtgov.org/maps.aspx) .

With respect to the comment about filling the Eastport ponds, did they bring in a mini-TBM (tunnel boring machine) to put in the pipes to move the water, Noooo. This is a completely different zone, not connected to the Monarch Grove/Linden, Middleton, StC., West Lakes, or Fenny zones. There are no connections between these zones, no pipe under the turnpike, or pipes connecting them under the Warm Springs, 470, or Water Lilly bridges.

Where did all the water go? It's reclaimed and used for irrigation and for inventory management. Throughout the summer the water is extensively moved to keep the water levels low in the basins in preparation of a hurricane hitting and dumping a lot of water in the area. The success of this was very clear to everyone who lived here when Irma hit (6 years ago? wow time flys!)
Some presentations were given on this a few years ago and can be found at District Workshops (https://www.districtgov.org/community/district-workshops.aspx) .

Those living on the basins should take a few minutes to read their deed restrictions and home sale contract, particularly the section on the basin water level, you'll find that they clearly state the water levels are not guaranteed, and that you acknowledged and agreed to this.

One last thing, storm drains are generally gravity drains and may have lift stations, the water you hear moving in this if from things like street drains collecting yard irrigation runoff. When the water is moved it is through dedicated pipes and forced mains by pumps, these pumps are located in the small unmarked buildings located near some ponds and basins. If they were going to move water in the storm drains we'd have quite the show on our hands as the water came gushing out of the street drains. The study of fluid dynamics long ago proved that water was lazy and will alway take the path of least resistance.

The trouble with Mr Don, is he deals in facts, and that's no fun at all.
Does nice videos though!

He is so much better than Google.

Thanks Don, very interesting.

Where does that water come from to rapidly fill new ponds like those in Eastport?

Initially form drainage of the surrounding areas due to the high ground water tables, and from some of the shallow wells they have permits from SWFWMD for. There's a lot more water available than most people realize.

Lots of rude, snarky and negative posts on this thread - Why?? It really shows the character (and insecurities) of posters who enjoy correcting people (or to their way of thinking) with snark and sarcasm - why can’t we assume positive intent and be kind, gentle and forgiving to all here on TOTV?

And if a thread or post annoys you - just move on and DON’T post a negative comment.

Crystal Lagoons would fit right in with TV. Everything here from the villages to the squares to the country clubs is fake so why not a fake beach & lagoon?
