Yesterday (Sunday), my garbage disposal started to leak after running my dishwasher. I knew because my 10 dollar water alarm went off (a good investment from Amazon). I called Mike Scott Plumbing, and they returned my call within an hour. They gave me a firm price of $240 to provide and install a new garbage disposal. The garbage disposal cost from Home Depot would have been $121 for the part alone. The Mike Scott guy showed up today at noon, and completed the job within 45 minutes. He accepted my credit card with no fee. The disposal is identical to the original one, and it works fine. I highly recommend Mike Scott Plumbing for this type of work. I "may" have saved a few dollars by hiring a handyman, but I feel better hiring a licensed plumber. The guy had obviously installed many of these disposals.

I've used Mike Scott a couple of times over the years.
Quality work with fast, courteous service and an affordable price.
Can't ask for more than that.

Need to put this on Nextdoor. I bet there is at least 1-2 persons a day looking for recommendations on plumbing work.

Just curious, did you know for sure the leak required a new disposal? A leak around a disposal is usually in the pipes leading from the disposal.

$240 does seem like a fair price for a full replacement.

We had a leak from the bottom of our disposal. Mike Scott Plumbing replaced the disposal in about 20 minutes. $240 well spent!

Yes, the entire bottom of the disposal was rusted out.

Everybody knows about Mike Scott plumbing. I'm more interested in learning about this $10 leak detector you found on Amazon. How about some details?

The leak detectors, called water alarms, are low tech. You can buy them on Amazon. They use a 9-volt battery and they will make a loud noise when you have 1/16 inches of water on the floor or in a sink cabinet. Mine were made by First Alert, but they are no longer available. However, there are several other companies that make them. I have one under every toilet, in every sink cabinet, in the water heater drain pan, behind the refrigerator and the washing machine. So far, they have alerted me to 2 leaks. Inexpensive peace of mind.

Glad you had a positive experience. For a few years Mike Scott’s prices were unaffordably high. Perhaps post Covid things are different.
