We recently moved into our new home in TV and would like to have a screened-in back yard (birdcage) installed, however; our air conditioning unit was installed right outside our back patio sliding glass door.

Maybe some of you could share your thoughts on having the AC Unit under the screened-in area. It will be a large birdcage that covers a significant portion of the backyard. Just curious if this will diminish the ac efficiency or not be a problem at all.

With the popularity of screened in patios in TV, it seems odd that they would put an ac unit right outside the back patio sliding glass door...but they did, and we bought the house because we wanted a pool sized back yard. Our Village salesperson knew that and didn't say anything about it and we never even thought about it until now.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated...

Probably not a problem from an operational standpoint, however, there may be building requirements that will be a problem. I would call the local building department and ask them the question to see if this will present a problem. If they approve, make sure you install door(s) large enough to allow for replacement of the AC equipment. Of course, you will also need ARC approval.
