Looking out on a peaceful forest with snow falling. Sweetie has a cold and I just fixed him a nice breakfast and he is reading the paper. Helene is munching on the yeast Schnecken I just took from the oven.

The grandkinder are coming by and will help us finish up the Christmas lamb later today.

Life is good.

I am grateful.

Stay warm and safe up North.

Were visiting with our two sons in Swedesboro, NJ. We are also waiting for the storm. They keep changing the forecast. Not sure how much, anywhere from 0 to 20 inches. The weather service with all their up to date computers will tell us the amount after the storm is over. We fly home to TV on Friday. It will be great getting home from the frozen tundra, but great seeing our two boys and their three daughters. :cold:

At home in Lakeport, CA. Drove home last night from Christmas Dinner at my wife's sister's ranch near Winters, CA. 2 1/2 hour drive in dark, intermittent rain and the last hour and a half thru the mountains. Could have stayed at my wife's mother's house for the second night in a row but decided our 3 cats needed some company.

There were about 20 adult relatives and 6 great nephews and nieces ages 7 to 1. Adults all brought one $20 gift each for the annual white elephant gift exchange where all the gifts are put on a table and numbers are drawn to determine order that the gifts are taken. Gift can be taken from the table or can be stolen from an already opened gift that someone has. Only two steals allowed for any one gift. I was #4 to pick and got a pair of women's vibrating slippers that I was stuck with because nobody wanted to steal them; my wife was #14 and she made the second and final steal of a set of screw drivers, wrenches and flashlights from our nephews wife. She wanted to take the $20 Lowe's gift card from our niece's hubby but she couldn't keep it quiet and he told our niece to do the second steal of it from him before my wife had her turn.

Then came gifts for the kids and the boxes and paper started flying; each kid got about ten presents from their aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandpas.

Sitting on my son's couch in Bethlehem, Pa, looking forward to traveling to Caroline village later this week. Since he is out in Pittsburgh with his in-laws, looks like I will be doing the shoveling around here later today and tomorrow. Just sold my home up here in August and thought I would never have to shovel again.

However, I did get to spend Christmas with my other two children and my first granddaughter (and her first Christmas). Like is truly good.

Awww Redwitch. If you are still feeling lousy the end of the week, I will make you my Chicken soup 'cause we are heading to Hadley!

I am in my basement, and see that everything is all clean and tidy, all of the decorations are put away, Sweetie spent the whole afternoon testing lights and storing them, just to test them again when he takes them out again, and the three of us had our little New Years celebration but didn't stay awake until midnight.

This house feels empty and lonely after all of the people who have been in it this month: our two grandchildren and their friends, our Austrian houseguest, our oldest daughter and her friends, our Helene and her friends. Our friends and relatives. We had four big parties and cooked for a lot of people and buried two long time friends and celebrated Christmas and lived every treasured moment.

Now we are eager to join our dear ones in TV. Perhaps by the end of this year we will be year 'round residents.

I am having a bit of trouble with that.

Yes Gracie, I understand. But life is in chapters, and one ends, another starts. I designed and built my northern home myself....hopefully we will have a buyer soon after it goes on the market......someone will be getting a nice well built house with many extras.

As retirement gets closer I am eager to start our new Florida life. I have many big projects planned for the Florida house...garage addition, re-hardscape the back yard with new patio, Pergola, etc, new kitchen, etc. I'm also a licensed Home Inspector, so I look forward to starting my new business down there. I don't relax well, always got to stay busy. It will be a bit hard to move away from our grown boys, but between visits, skype, facebook, etc it will be ok.

This new year is exciting for us......I'm hoping 2011 will be the year of transition for us. One of my resolutions is to come to a Chrispers meet-up.....hopefully this April.....!! Right now we are taking down our tree. We always cut our own nice Douglas Fir...I hope we can cut our own real trees down in Florida also....we'll see.

We would love to.....hopefully this April when we are back down there..
We are big on family and traditions.....but we are looking forward to making more new friends and making new traditions. We have always encouraged our kids to start their own traditions so when we were gone they would not be left with voids. I think they could come down in the winter months, and we could visit up north perhaps in the summer.

Live is full of trade offs. I'll miss my apple trees, but I like my orange trees, etc.
I do not want to hijack this thread...perhaps we should start a new one about how we coped with that "Big Move".....
