If you use the McDonald's app, there is usually a special of any size coffee for $0.99. That is regular or iced coffee. You are limited to once a day.

Interesting post. I just checked the cost of my coffee made at home and found that the most expensive part was the soy milk I put into it. I bought it at Publix $5.39 64 oz which is pretty well twice the cost for the same item at Walmart. Now you’re making me check my whole grocery list.

If you just want one cup of coffee with your meal, most of these full service breakfast restaurants are a ripoff. You will pay about $3.50 for a cup of coffee, including tax and tip. And, the restaurant doesn't want you to know what you paid because many of them conveniently omit the beverage prices from the menu.

Seriously this is a great deal if you live close and don't have to start your car
and use a golfcart every week.

I know a wealthy friend of mine that lives outside tv, starts his new Lexus up
every morning @ 6:00a.m. and drives to Panera for his free coffee, then again
in the p.m. for another cup.

Seems like a big expense and determination for a cup of coffee that he could make at home.

Not a coffee drinker myself but thought I'd look up the price of coffee bean (https://www.statista.com/statistics/675807/average-prices-arabica-and-robusta-coffee-worldwide/)s. I found that the price per kilogram of both major varieties of coffee is in 2023 nearly identical to the price in 2014. Thus any increases you are paying are for factors other than bean price. the website did not explain how they know the cost of beans in 2024 unless they are using future contracts.

The other graph is longer term of US prices. (https://coffee-finders.com/wholesale-coffee-beans-prices-history/) It does not explain which bean type. Perhaps a blend. But this 45 year graph shows no increase in all those years. These are not adjusted for inflation so your coffee beans are way cheaper than they were in 1975.

According to the article with the long term chart, the farmer only gets 5% of the final supermarket cost of coffee.

As a former hog farmer, nothing unusual there.
The profit is with the middlemen, and retailer, then when feed, and ancillary costs rise, the farmer takes the hit, not the retailer or middleman.
If the true cost, plus a reasonable return was set by the producers, the public would scream blue murder at the price rise in the shop.
There were times when the transport guy taking our pigs to slaughter made more than we did on the load.
And we were one of he more efficient producers.
Gave up, bought a truck, and started making some money!

Or practice, I remember the last time I was driving around Mass - eastern, not the city, probably not the cape - I was astounded to see a Dunkin on every corner. I marveled that they could survive. How many donuts could Massachusetts eat? I didn't consider that they were selling coffee, not crullers or honey dipped. As is probably the subtext of the original post, selling coffee is profitable.

Starbucks is the worse. They burn the beans so all locations taste the same. 95% of Starbucks sold has sugar, cream, coco or other sweet stuff in it so you can’t really taste the coffee. Plus the cost of Starbucks is crazy.

Not just for leftovers. Prepackaged meals from you from your favorite restaurants to be frozen and reheated when going out may not be a reasonable option for you. Did it for years when traveling in the motor home. We'd get to our campsite. No restaurants for miles. Don't want to have to start preparing a meal. Just reach into the freezer and pick what you want. Heat and eat. No mess and no waiting for dinner. Works just as well at home.

Well, Walmart is 150 steps or so away. My fault for not looking at the receipt - you know they always tell you orally at the checkout and in writing at Publix how much you just SAVED. I was not the one doing the grocery shopping in the past so I wasn’t familiar with the prices.

It’s just the way one is raised, if it doesn’t go in a wok, skillet Or air fryer. It doesn’t go on our table. All beef is rare, chicken seared in a hot wok, and fish air fried. Raised in a southern household, microwave not allowed in our family.

My mom still won’t have one in her house. Leftovers goes back in a cast iron to make hash. But we all have bacon grease on our stove.

We moved here from the Pacific Northwest, Oregon, Washington. Mc Cafe and Dunkin and other so called coffee places would not last a week back home. Starbucks is minimally acceptable as they offer several diffent roasts and varieties. A good coffee shop should offer several varities of coffee as well as roast levels. Seems most places here offer medium roast Columbian coffee which is like ordering vanilla ice cream at Mystic ice cream. I like a sumatra coffee because of its low acidity, sometimes I like it roasted dark and I like that burnt flavor. But if I'm just relaxing and enjoying a cup of coffee I like a real light roast . It's great in the afternoon as the caffine level is higher in a lighter roast. The flavor is more subtle almost like a tea, but so much better. Beans lose flavor extremly fast after grinding so grinding fresh is a must. Anyplace that uses coffee out of a can or pre-ground is not serving great coffee. How coffee is prepared is very important. For an individual cup you definitly want poured over coffee, This is very common in most coffee houses in Oregon/Washington. Second most common is a french press.
I have found one very good coffee cafe in the area. "The coffee snob" in Leesburg is the closest place my wife and I have found that serves excellent coffee and sells a variety of beans and roast levels

Adopt me!

Great comment!, to each their own of course, but the Starbucks has always been a bit too strong for me. When up north I find Tim Horton's one of my favorite,

We are slowly transitioning away from Dunkin donuts coffee when at home to in home brewing and getting beans and grinding them ourselves as the easiest way to save money with coffee. . .

driving the car to get cheap coffee seems like alot of work (and hidden expense) instead of just filling a pod and popping it in the single serve coffee maker at home. . .

Im always looking for a bargain! Where around here has a good old fashioned $1 cup of coffee? There has got to be somewhere! Paid $2.55 at the local gas station this morning. Yikes! 😬

Have you tried your kitchen?
