So you celebrate our granddaughter’s birthday :MOJE_whot. Not a milestone birthday (23) but she really wants her own life size skeleton, to study. They are really not cheap

This reminds me of an old zombie movie, maybe Return of the Living Dead. Two men worked in a medical supply warehouse and they had a discussion about the real skeletons. It was mentioned that people often ordered a full skeleton with perfect teeth. One guy was explaining to the other how hard it was to find people with perfect teeth, living or dead.

Jan 3 at 9PM EST we will be closest to the sun. The perihelion spot you would think makes us warmer, but in fact our axis and position defies the moment. It will likely be quite chilly.

Since 3yo decided Orthopedic, (she was a staple at the office clipboard and white jacket) at 12 added ortho trauma.

When her grandpa retired took 3’ Mr Bones from office for her. She puts color tape for tendons and muscles. Wish is a full size would be easier to map and a built in Halloween decoration.

She is very happy with Summer solstice birthday, everyone celebrating the day, birthday or not

Thought provoker - Where might the above statement have been inaccurate? Yes, we know that the day isn't getting longer.

If it is on CNN, it has to be true!

And this is from the Royal Museums Greenwich website.

The winter solstice occurs in December, and in the Northern Hemisphere the date marks the 24-hour period with the fewest daylight hours of the year. That is why it is known as the shortest day of the year, or the longest night of the year.

Up to witness the greeting of winter solstice, even though it was 53 degrees the frogs were very vocal. Must be celebrating because they partied all night, and are still rejoicing.

Summer can’t get here soon enough. Florida winters aren’t what they are cracked up to be unless you like to freeze.

If you want to win a bet next year on the solstice tell someone you can stand an egg on end. It's the only day (not sure maybe summer solstice too) you can do that. I lost the bet so I know it works.

Your 2 days behind it was 2 days ago Dec. 21st. If you think I’m wrong that’s OK we’re both close enough. I see it on my calendar!

My least favorite day of the year, bring on June 21st.

Winter was my least favorite time of the year in Connecticut, but now I enjoy every season here in Florida. "Sunshine on my Shoulder makes me happy" John Denver said it well.

The 24 hour day (time for the earth to make one rotation) is actually getting longer on average. Although the recent trend is less. So the OP opening statement is true (that the 'days' will get longer) even when referenced to the light/dark periods in the post.

From 'time and date' site:

"What Is a Leap Second?

Every now and then, we add a leap second to our clocks to synchronize them with the Earth's rotation.

Why Do We Need Leap Seconds?

We add leap seconds from time to time to ensure our clocks reflect the Earth's rotation as accurately as possible. The speed at which our planet rotates around its axis fluctuates daily, and it slows down very slightly over time.

Adding a leap second creates a minute with 61 seconds—and a day with 86,401 seconds instead of the usual 86,400.

About One Second Every 1.5 Years.

An average Earth day is about 0.002 seconds longer than 24 hours. The difference grows to one second in about 1.5 years. However, the Earth's rotation speed fluctuates constantly, so the actual frequency of leap seconds can vary."

Leap seconds:
Leap Second - What is it? (https://www.timeanddate.com/time/leapseconds.html#:~:text=Added%20on%20June%2030%20 or,11%3A59%3A60%20pm).

Interesting factoid...
