We are not Prime members but always are so satisfied. 3 days ago our Dyson vacuum went dead. Searched Amazon for a new lithium battery. Bingo $34.99. $35 for free shipping. Searched and found .99 wafer cookies. Ordered 3. Free shipping then. Perfect.
Got an Amazon notice the shipment would arrive today 11am-3pm. Checked their site and saw a realtime map with a sleigh stating it’s 4 stops away. Watched as the sleigh moved to our house and right then it was delivered.
Opened the one box with the cookies and the battery. Just installed the battery, vac is perfect and cookies in the pantry
So spoiled with Amazon. We always go with them whenever we need something. Especially love their return policy.
Although we’d prefer to shop locally etc, simply cannot beat Amazon.

That is not to say that they are faultless however. A big problem with Amazon, IMO, is that a lot of stuff bought on their website is junk, primarily from China. Case in point: some years back the battery on my old(er) laptop died. Battery shop I stopped at in Bloomington, MN, quoted me a price of $70 for a new one--if they could get it, which was not guaranteed as it was no longer manufactured. I decided to shop Amazon for one, and found it...less than $20, titled with one of those phony names that Chinese manufacturing seems so good at using, and when it promptly arrived it fit perfectly. Trouble was it would stay charged for only 20 minutes or so at most, and when plugged in it would get VERY hot while charging. Another time I needed a couple of those little round batteries some appliances use...bathroom scales, headphones and the like...and found some. Two for something like $9m at Walgreen's or CVS. A card of the same battery model cost about $12 for a card of 20 at Amazon, so I figured the risk was minimal. Same problem: whereas the Walgreen's batteries lasted for months, these died in days. And some didn't work at all.

Most retailers would like you to use their website, but they cannot afford not to also list their products on Amazon.

I've been a Prime member for a number of years and own stock in Amazon. However, since Amazon started allowing third party sellers, you have to be careful that what you are buying is not counterfeit and/or very low quality. Amazon has become somewhat like Buy-It-Now on eBay & you will see the same China based vendors on both sites for the same or very similar prices. A lot of products that the Chinese vendors sell are available on Temu or AliExpress for 50% less with free shipping & easy returns. I always compare a product I see on Amazon with eBay, Temu, & AliExpress. The media likes to write scare stories about Temu but I have been buying from them for over a year & have nothing but good things to say about them. I have purchased tools, bicycle accessories, clothing, e-bike batteries, outdoor solar lights, Halloween items, greeting cards and more. You are not going to get next-day-delivery though. Usually it takes at least 2 weeks but if they don't hit their target date they start giving you $5 credit that repeats every few days they are late. There is a lot of "junk" for sale but a lot of good items also. I bought two t-shirts that didn't fit right, Temu refunded the price AND let me keep the shirts. I bought a Bafang e-bike mid-drive motor conversion kit from AliExpress for almost $300 less than the same one on Amazon. Do your homework on a product you want & like another commenter said, "Caveat Emptor"!

When you want to search the Internet for an item, do it in a search engine such as DuckDuckGo not the Amazon website. When you search in DuckDuckGo, all businesses are competing for your purchase and you’ll see search results from Amazon, Walmart, and many others. They are competing against one another for your purchase. When you search for an item directly in Amazon you may not see the best price because they already know your profile, buying habits and competition is severely reduced.

After you see your search results in DuckDuckGo, make note of the best price that is presented from the various companies, including Amazon. Then search for the exact same item within the Amazon site. You may or may not see that item for that same lower price but you can get to the item by clicking on it in the DuckDuckGo search results. This tip may not work all the time but it has worked many times for me and others that are aware of it.

Amazon and online companies of the such are crushing American small businesses - it's too late to say "are". They already have. We already are spoiled to all the things posted to date in this thread, even to the point of someone posting, screw small businesses. Heck, I'm not gonna lie, I love my 365 Santa packages from Amazon. Why and when?

Brick and mortor stores are only as good as their inventory amounts, merchandise choices, and prices. Do love price matching though which most do like Lowes, etc. Oh, and don't forget... friendliness.

Extremely simplistic example: One goes to a store to buy a shirt here in T V. Inventory for size M gone. Size XXL 50 to 100 in stock. Hello inventory specialist... what do those inventory numbers that tell you about your shoppers? Result one goes home and orders the shirt on Amazon. A good local small business looks at sales trends and knows what people are looking for and maintains stock.

As for friendliness, a good business does not outwardly judge customers for theft or financial status. Can't tell you how many times snobby store clerks have caused me to buy online. One never knows what's in someone's wallet and the price someone will pay for something they want, need or just plain buy as retail therapy!

Amazon is a necessary evil imo. Wish America would makes things like they used to. The quality was number one back in the day.

If it’s a name brand item, I will shop for it on Amazon and will only buy it if it’s much cheaper. If it’s close in price I always buy local. Amazon as well as Walmart carry cheap Chinese branded cr@p and it’s those items that are really cheap in price. We’ve tried prime 2x now and it doesn’t offer anything for the expense. Prime video was terrible, we only saw a couple shows we watched, Amazon music is not that good either, prefer the hires sites.

I've always kept in mind "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is", and that phrase kept running through my head as I clicked around TEMU's website. A few examples:

- A cordless electric drill, powered by 48-v Lithium battery, for $29.49. (DeWalt colors, but the brand is "JSD-HOPE").
- An 18 pc. drill bit set for $7.11
- 12-pc. screwdriver set for $5.98

And so on.

To be sure this does not represent everything they sell and they do have some stuff that seems realistically priced. But if you're shopping for tools I'd be VERY leery of their "bargains". I'm pretty sure I've seen the same or similar stuff, with pricing about the same, at Harbor Freight.

I’m also “amazed” with Amazon! I use it for obtaining certain household items quickly. It’s a great way to augment what we already have. So I’ll order a pack of water when we’re running low, and a pack of toilet tissue or paper towels. Or maybe I need crock pot liners, I can get them in a couple of days. I also order a large pack of clear plastic cups with matching lids regularly. Price on that is good, and these are harder to find than the red solo cups every supermarket has.

I love it that I’m not paying shipping and handling either! Returns are easy too. Been a prime member for awhile and it’s worth it. When it comes to women’s clothing, accessories and makeup, however, you’ve got to be a bit more careful. Some of it is low quality, coming from overseas. Makeup items — some come from American close out stores or discount shops where items sit for long periods and products are old. You just have to pick and choose. All in all, a great service!

Opened the one box with the cookies and the battery. Just installed the battery, vac is perfect and cookies in the pantry
So spoiled with Amazon. We always go with them whenever we need something. Especially love their return policy.

Also, if you delay your order delivery date for items you don’t need immediately you can sometimes get an amazon digital credit to use to rent movies or get books.

For a month I didn't get a refund and frequent checks to my account website indicated the return was in process. I started calling Amazon customer service and was told the credit was in process and I should wait 5-7 business days. This happened repeatedly. Long story short, I never did get my credit. So, don't buy anything from Amazon unless you are willing to lose the money. I have filed claims with the BBB, FTC and Amazon legal. So far, nothing.

Call the credit card vendor you used to pay for the computer and dispute the charge. Hopefully you saved the return shipping documentation.

I will assume you live in The Villages. For most (perhaps all?) of us, if you put the boxes out with your trash, it will be "recycled" into electricity via Covanta. If you want the boxes to have the potential to be recycled in a normal sense, you will have to make other arrangements. What happens elsewhere varies.

I’m also “amazed” with Amazon! I use it for obtaining certain household items quickly. It’s a great way to augment what we already have. So I’ll order a pack of water when we’re running low, and a pack of toilet tissue or paper towels. Or maybe I need crock pot liners, I can get them in a couple of days. I also order a large pack of clear plastic cups with matching lids regularly. Price on that is good, and these are harder to find than the red solo cups every supermarket has.

I love it that I’m not paying shipping and handling either! Returns are easy too. Been a prime member for awhile and it’s worth it. When it comes to women’s clothing, accessories and makeup, however, you’ve got to be a bit more careful. Some of it is low quality, coming from overseas. Makeup items — some come from American close out stores or discount shops where items sit for long periods and products are old. You just have to pick and choose. All in all, a great service!
Another handy aspect of this online experience is the ability to (critically) read reviews about such potentially questionable buys. Have been warned off of some baddies just in the nicotine (old Bill Dana line). Even been known to write reviews my ownself - especially complimentary ones.

If you buy something on sale, or Prime Day, you better be around, or your return period will expire. Note this snowbirds!

They treat their employees terribly.

They do almost nothing for your local economy.

When you want to search the Internet for an item, do it in a search engine such as DuckDuckGo not the Amazon website. When you search in DuckDuckGo, all businesses are competing for your purchase and you’ll see search results from Amazon, Walmart, and many others. They are competing against one another for your purchase. When you search for an item directly in Amazon you may not see the best price because they already know your profile, buying habits and competition is severely reduced.

After you see your search results in DuckDuckGo, make note of the best price that is presented from the various companies, including Amazon. Then search for the exact same item within the Amazon site. You may or may not see that item for that same lower price but you can get to the item by clicking on it in the DuckDuckGo search results. This tip may not work all the time but it has worked many times for me and others that are aware of it.

That may work for some people. But, have you ever tried to buy shoes with a narrow width in a store? Or, a T-shirt or Polo shirt with a pocket? Or a pair of pants with the correct waist size and length? I have been in shoe stores that have thousands of shoes, and every pair is a medium width.

That'd depend on the shoe store you're in. Specialty shoe stores have selections in a multitude of widths. If a store's sales person actually fits you using their metal measurement device, then chances are, they have plenty of width options.

Fleet Feet uses a laser machine to measure your feet, but they have no narrow shoes in the store. Nike, New Balance, and Rockport all make narrow shoes, but try to find your size in a store. I can order any of these shoes from Amazon and get them within 2 days. If they don't fit, I can just drop them off at the UPS store. I did find some narrow shoes at the SAS store, but they were 3 times as expensive and they were ugly.

T-shirts, polo shirts, and golf shirts are another story. I like a pocket on my shirt, which is easy to find on Amazon. But, go to a store, and you will rarely find a shirt with a pocket. Also, stores will often have pants with only even waist sizes and the variety of inseam lengths is very limited, and they will not make any adjustments.

I have a lot of trouble finding comfortable closed-toes shoes to fit me. The New Balance shoes I used to get, were only available at New Balance stores. Eventually they stopped selling them at any store at all and now you can only get them online or order them from one of their stores.

Another brand I love, Abeo, was made for the Walking Store, which no longer has any brick and mortar stores at all, and you can now only get them online.

The third brand I can wear is Brooks, which is stupidly expensive.

Because I have one fallen arch - one /not/ fallen, a neuroma in the other foot, and my longest three toes are the same length, I can't wear pointed-toe shoes, I need very firm arch support, and a thickly cushioned shoe to hug my feet in position. I used to be able to wear those Skechers rocker shoes, but too many stupid people thought they didn't have to learn how to balance, and fell and sprained their ankles when wearing them. Oh yeah and they thought that shoes would actually make them lose weight. One class-action lawsuit later and they ceased to exist.

I can't wear any high heel shoes at all anymore, not even wedges. Flats must have an arch support. They must have a box-toe construction.

So I feel your pain - but I also recognize that my personal needs are not profitable enough for shoe manufacturers, and my options are limited. Most adult men don't have narrow feet, so it's not profitable for shoe stores to keep a supply of narrow shoes in every size in their store "just in case" a customer happens to need them.

Yes, we used a lot of them when we moved out of out last house and doing it again when we move this time. In fact, somebody moving to another house put on ND that he had moving boxes if anyone wanted them, so as a result we doing this move with 100% recycled boxes!
