Do a Google search for INTERNATIONAL banks in Uganda online. Lots of information. I have a neice who does international banking in Singapore for Barclays.

Your local bank or your financial advisor should be able to provide some guidance on this, and the other possible resource would be the credit card you intend to use. Also, you may find a limit on the amount of cash you can take on the airline (or however you are traveling). IMHO, I would get the currency one I got there.

Just for info I looked up Ugandan Currency. Apparently, they have no coins. Currency is in 1000, 2000, 5000,10000, 20000, 50000 notes.

1000 Shillings is worth just over a US quarter. 50000 shillings is worth $13.31 USD. A million is worth about $265 USD.

I would tell you to use a Revolut card if you are traveling to Africa just due to the high amount of scammers in africa.. that’s a fact or xe.com for transfers.
Revolut will work in Uganda at atms plus you control what goes into that card. Scammers are all over africa..

I've done more than my share of international travel, having been in 34 different countries. In the last 15 years, I have always been able to get local currency in-country before I left the airport terminal. Usually, I simply use a local ATM. If not available, I'll use a Currency Exchange booth. Both charge a fee for it, but every source will. The Exchange booths usually have an obnoxious rate, which is why I prefer the ATM.

These days, I don't get very much cash. About $200 is more than sufficient. I pay for everything with a credit card anyway. (Again, taking a hit on the exchange rate, but that'll happen.)
