we have over 16,000 registered members. About 50% of them didn't enter the information about their birthday. So, the software defaults to Jan 1. This Saturday morning all of those people will be getting an automatic birthday greeting from Talk of The Villages. We then, will be receiving about 6,000 emails saying "thanks, but it's not my birthday."
It happens ever year.

What spam? A birthday greeing sent because the member didn't fill out the information correctly. You consider a birthday greeting from a chat forum that YOU signed up for to be spam? It's a free forum, provided at no charge to you. We let you post as many times a year that you wish, mostly without question, and you consider our once a year birthday greeting to be "spam." We're sorry that we bothered you.
Fortunately the thousands of others who thank us for remembering their birthday don't share your opinion. Even the people who get the Jan 1 greeting in error thank us.

Set up an automatic response to those e-mails that says something like "You're going to have one sometime this year,so Happy Birthday in advance".

Perfect. Just hope we all have one during the year.

Hi TH,
I appreciate the birthday greeting. Your software and process for birthday greetings is A-OK with me. Your post letting folks know why they might get a birthday greeting on Jan. 1 was a good idea. No doubt some will change their information to include their birthday, either in response to your post or when they get their Jan. 1 birthday greeting. You're a smart and good admin. Thank you.

JLKHey, it would be fine with me to get the birthday wishes if it's going to be followed up by having a birthday present sent as well! :clap2:

I thought the Marilyn Monroe look alike in the tight dress you sent to the front door with the birthday greeting last year was a nice touch. Her rendition of "Happy Birthday to You" blew my mind. Will you be sending her out Saturday with the birthday greeting again this year? Tony hinted you might upgrade to Lady Gaga. Not sure Villagers would have a clue who she is. Sophia Loren would be my first choice.
My wife requested the Chippendales you sent with her birthday greeting last year. The tall one in the birthday suit was a little over the top.
I am curious....when you have registered members with names like Pat or Jamie, how do you know whether to send Marilyn or the Chippendales?
It's the thought that counts.

I forgot to delete my birthday information, so consequently I didn't get my birthday message this morning. That doesn't really bother me, but what does bum me out is that I didn't get the birthday present I could have expected had I not forgetten to take my DOB out. Oh well! :ohdear:
