Most every CPA I know, uses TurboTax.
It's a program to fill out forms & a calculator, not a tax advisor or CPA.

Actually TurboTax does more than that. It asks you simple questions, and then selects the needed forms from over 800 IRS forms, fills them out, and prepares a complete tax return. And, I believe that the TurboTax database has more complete and accurate tax knowledge than most tax advisors and CPAs.

I have found several errors / buttons to click not working, its not perfect.
I had a Turbo tax guy on the phone for 90 minutes trying to get it to work properly.
Finally we agreed to do it a certain way, although that way didn't seem to follow the stated steps and numbers.
Also, it doesn't handle several to many K1s very well from public market investment type trusts.
but unless you have a business, TT should do everything needed for most tax returns.
The interface is a bit clunky in my opinion, way to many repeat questions to answer to make a change when you enter something wrong.

I use the free tax software available through a link on the IRS website. No need to pay for TurboTax software when you can get your returns done 100% free.

I have been using Turbo Tax since they came out. Back then I had my own company with lots of receipts and deductions and it worked great. Now with fewer sources of income, and zero deductions and it still works great. I used to require that my husband give me something for doing them but now it’s too easy.

I'm not going to recommend or discourage an online tax program or a CPA.
What I am going to tell you is I've been with the same firm for 50 years.
First with the father of the company and after he passed with others within the firm. Once you find someone you believe is actually working for you stick with them.

I also get the advice on when and where to save or increase profits on property, when to pay down mortgages, or invest instead. Takes care of state and local city taxes and quarterly.
Plus she is a retired at 50 tax attorney who got bored. to keep her mind sharp does taxes and financial advice for some clients.

Let the IRS figure out how much you owe them?
The government just loves folks who rely on the IRS to tell them how much they owe.

Not sure how complex the OP's return might be but I have an out of state guy who does complicated personal, partnership and C corporation returns for people residing and businesses located in various states, including Florida.

If you go on website IRS.gov, you will see 'free tax prep'. It will take you to link of several software services that do so if AGI is < 79K. I have used 'FreeTaxUSA' as well as 'TurboTax'. They all ask you multiple questions, maintain your filing for next year and offer choices to add State filings (should you have a part time resident if you moved during the year). You can ask for 'pro' help as well as 'audit protection' should you choose to pay their nominal fee.

Er, no. I think you misread what I said, or misinterpreted it.
The program I used last year was OLT - which I found through the IRS.gov website via a link. TaxAct is another one I recognize, and there are I think 7 or 8 more of them. They're "guided" programs, that you don't have to pay a fee for the privilege of using.

And, you have to pay for the software even if you're doing a simple form with no itemization.
There are several online options that cost nothing, if you're not itemizing, and you don't owe any back taxes.
