We are on the federal no call list. Lately I have noticed that we are getting a lot of automated sales calls which mention energy studies etc. These have really picked up over the past couple of months. I guess I could listen to the whole message instead of hanging up and try to get info on the company and report them to the proper authorities (whoever they are). Don't know if anyone else has noticed this.

John ... yep, I've been getting the same recorded calls; I think they are just robocalling all local numbers/exchanges. I'm on the no call list and have a telezapper but these still come through.
I got them 3 or 4 days in a row one time, at about the same time of the day.
I even got one on my cell phone.
There is an article in today's Sun about energy scams.

There is also a Florida do not call list which has a fee of, I believe, $35 to put your phone number on the list for five years. We did that earlier this year and have seen a drop in calls but probably will not renew when the five years are up. Problem with this system is that I filed a complaint recently about a company calling about air conditioner maintenance. The reply back from the state was that they will not investigate unless it is for numerous violations.

Someone who has been receiving these calls told me to re-do the www.donotcall.gov list again.

Someone who has been receiving these calls told me to re-do the www.donotcall.gov (http://www.donotcall.gov) list again. At one time your request was only good for 5 years. They later changed it to non expiring. But if you signed up and think you're on it, you should check and make sure you're still on. You can also file a complaint at the website Shirleevee indicated.

I have also been getting these calls. I did talk to a caller a couple of days ago and told him I was on the national no call list and do they check that list. He then told me that they did not qualify for that list I did not ask why because it made no difference in my thoughts. I then congratulated him on working and contributing so my Social Security check and asked if they have a no call list and could I get on so they would not call me anymore. He said yes. I said thank you and I expect not to have to stop what I am doing and answer the phone and hear from them in the future.
We will see how that goes.

There was an article in the Daily Sun this morining citing "energy audit" calls being a scam. I receive these calls as well despite being on the don not call list. I punch the number to talk to someone and then in no uncertain terms tell them to stop bugging me. So far after a couple of times being rude, the calls seem to have stopped.

There was another thread on here awhile back about energy panels etc.
It sounded way too good to be true so I of course I was and am...very sceptical about those sorts of things. Many others didn't agree with me.
Just yesterday we were invited to a very lah-tee-dah restaurant here in Cincinnati to hear about energy savings. They told us NOT to bring our check book. We of course threw that invite into the circular file.
All I can say is someone is making lotsa dough on this.
I open my blinds to let the sun in when I am cold and close them when I am hot. And...I sleep with the windows open when it is pleasant.
I am looking to save some energy too.
AND on a lighter note. Bill and Sandy. I love your sense of humor. That link is TOO funny.

Speaking about another scam (I think) was we were invited to a presentation by a buying club where you can buy household appliances, furniture, etc. at low prices. They had expensive brochures and there were about 25 people there for the presentation and we were divided into about 5 groups where sales people made their pitches. After the presentations we were told that we had to make a decision that night or we couldn't participate. Couldn't even think it over. This supposedly was a national buying service but I can't remember the name. When we were told that we had to make a decision that night we beat a path to the exit.

JohnIt was nearly 40 years ago when we walked into the same situation in Rotterdam NY. Shortly after we chose the exit door rather than a membership, that "buyers club" was shut down  for fraud!

Our experience with them was probably about 10 years ago so maybe they reconstituted themselves using a different name.

That's what they do. If it worked forty years ago and then again ten years ago you can bet it will raise its ugly head again.

I remember when I worked at one company and was required to answer the phone, the telemarketing call, (computer generated), would have at the end of their spiel, a number to select to stop getting these calls. I don't remember it working.
I usually do the following:
1. Use my answering machine to screen all incoming calls.
2. Hang-up when I don't want to be bothered. if it is a real person as opposed to a computer, they will get the hint you don't want to be bother. On my more patient days, I will wait for them to finsh and say I am not interested.
3. I cut them off off by saying, I'm going out the door so I can't do this at this time. When they call back, I make it my businees to not answer until they stop calling.
4. I also don't do surveys. I don't feel comfortable giving out information to people I don't know.
The phone rang several times last night from people I did not want to talk to and what a PITA they are. Especially with scams on the rise, I for one do not want to be disturbed especially when I just sat down to dinner.
HOW RUDE!!!!!!
