As I mentioned the other day, and as you can see, January 1st is a default birthday date on Talk of The Villages. Anybody who didn't enter their real birthday, gets listed as January 1st.
Well, thousands of greetings went out and we received hundreds of email from people thanking us for the greeting, but saying it isn't their birthday.
Now, you have to understand that many people registered 2, 3 or 4 years ago, and have actually forgotten that they are members. Therefore they are surprised at the greeting. Many have no recollection of registering and have never posted.
Okay, here's the story. Today, I got a pretty nasty response from a woman saying, "well, if that's the way you're going to be, I'll never move to The Villages."
HUH???? Because of a birthday greeting???? So, I looked her up in our files. She registered 3 years ago and selected the screen name "idiot." Apparently she has forgotten about that.
So today, when she got a birthday email from us, it said, "Hello Idiot, Happy Birthday."

Funny one. It reminded me of my days as a techie where the user would do something that was mindless and yell at you when they asked for an explanation and you were caught in trying to explain in a diplomatic way about a idiotic episode.
Many years ago, I was working on a terminal and a lady was trying to call home using the keypad on the computer. She just upset and asked me to tell why the phone would not work.
I slowly looked at the keyboard and slowly looked at the phone dialing buttons several times hoping she get the hint. When she got more upset and complained I wasn't answering her, she force me to say, "it would help if you used the telephone keypad".
She got embarrassed so much that her face turned every color of the rainbow and didn't say anything to me.

That is soooo funny. Since I forget things all the time now that I am 73 yrs. young, I find that especially side-splitting. I'll have to share that one with all my friends.
