Is there still a Mac group in TV? If so, when does it meet? It used to meet on Wednesdays, but have lost the information about it.

Also, I have had a MacBook for three years. Until a month ago I received very little junk mail, but now receive many a day from medical recording ads, pharmacy and other schools. They do go into junk mail, but why would I start getting all this now? These go to my hotmail email address.

Yes, there is a Mac group in TV. You can see their website at

http://www.thevillagesmug.org/

I plan to join this month myself....

As for your spam.... I have a Hotmail account and I get spammed all the time. Here's how I fixed my spam problem on my "real" Gmail account.

For your email address, use something like NAME.NUMBER@EMAIL.COM For example: memason.1234@hotmail.com (This is not my email account, by the way) This completely stopped all spam to my email account.

Thanks Memason - I think I might be interested, but would like to attend a meeting before paying dues - seems like you can "club" yourself to death here, and if you are watching your pennies need to be selective. Does anyone know if you can go to one meeting without joining?

Ohiogirl.... I have not joined yet either. I plan to go to the January meeting and see if "it's for me". I'll also check out the PC club too. I can't imagine they wouldn't let you attend a meeting, before you join, although I believe it's only $10.00/year for residents.

We just moved to TV a couple weeks ago, but I think you're right. It would be easy to over extend yourself in participation....

Yes, you may attend a meeting or meetings to see if you find the club of interest. You might as for Carole when you go. She is the club's very friendly secretary and you can tell her why you are there. She wil be able to tell you about the club's 'subgroups' that help new Mac users or anyone that might have a specific problem.

Where can I get my MAC laptop repaired? I'm having problems while typing, the letters jump all over the place and delete words. Anyone ever experience this problem before?

It sounds like an adjustable software problem. First check with our Villages MAC group to make sure it is not just a needed software adjustment. If there is a tech problem, there are Apple stores in Orlando.

I was also told that the MUG group was one of the few in The Villages that do allow non-villagers to attend.
If true, I very much would like to check it out as I've been a mac guy for over 10 years.

As many know here, my NY home is for sale, and as soon as it sells I'll be living full time at my Florida home.

I currently have a Macbook Pro, an iphone4 and an older G4 imac. in the next day or so I plan on replacing that 11 year old imac with a brand new imac...

Kathy, could there be any chance that when typing you are accidentally touching the trackpad? That can cause your problem sometimes....

Respectfully, Frank

The MAC club pays rent to the rec center so non village residents can attend.
Here is a link to the club web page.

In case the link doesn't show.

Thank you for your input. The problem occurs whether I am typing an email or a word document. I will join the VMUG and see if they can help.

Thanks,

Kathy

VMUG meets next Wednesday night at Saddlebrook. Stop by the MUD group -(acronym for Macintosh user drop in). You can bring your mac and get help there. The meet on the 2nd Wed of the month at Paradise Rec Center. More info on the VMUG web site. They meet again on October 9th. There are club members who make house calls for a small fee.

In the meantime go to System Preferences > Keyboard and keyboard shortcuts and restore defaults. I had this problem on an old Powerbook.

Mitch - I did what you suggested and that solved the problem of letters moving and deleting sentences I just typed. Sometimes the curser will jump back when I have finished typing. I have to watch carefully when I am typing.

Thanks for your help,

Kathy
