I especially enjoy Heinz ketchup on french fries having first tried putting ketchup on them while in high school. I enjoy it on hamburgers and an occasional hot dog but never put it or A1 sauce on a steak which many people do.
From Charlie Munger:
CM: "It was very interesting. It's something about the flavor of ketchup on a goddamn fried potato that people aren't really willing to change brands over. They want Heinz. And so we could raise the price of Heinz. Pretty much any, but you try to raise the Kraft cheese and everything goes into rebellion, including the final customer, the housewife. They don't care that much about whether the cheese is Kraft or not."

That was unnecessary. The same could be said about fish on Fridays or foregoing some food during Lent, or mixing meat and dairy. The OP is entitled to have food preferences, and some dietary prohibitions are more deeply seeded. Would anyone expect our Hindu friends to chow down on filet mignon?

In the U.S., French fries should be eaten with ketchup. In the U.K., chips should have salt and vinegar on them, and there should be no ketchup in sight. In other places, fries are served with gravy, cheese curds, or mayonnaise. Ketchup may not be especially healthy, but it’s as healthy as most desserts or sodas. It improves the flavor of many foods, just as does a great many sauces. Too much meet tastes a lot like cardboard, and sauce helps. Even expensive steakhouses put butter on their steaks.

I'll eat ketchup whenever on whatever I want. I'm not one to worry about what people eat, but I was fascinated once in a lunch place in Indiana. The waitress brought the man four slices of white bread stacked on a plate, and some butter. He buttered the top piece completely, then picked up the glass sugar pourer pottle and proceeded to pour sugar all over he buttered bread, folded it and ate it. Then did that three more times. I was mesmerized. I will say, it looked delicious.

Ketchup, you are the perfect condiment that elevates any meal to the next level. Your rich, tangy flavor pairs perfectly with so many foods, from burgers and fries to eggs and grilled cheese. You bring a burst of flavor and brightness to every dish you touch, making it impossible to imagine a world without you. Thank you for being such a versatile and delicious addition to our meals. Chef/Cook came out and gave me lecture on blending herbs and spices that compliment the meal.
I said that's exactly why I wanted the brown sauce, there was no flavor.
Still, I got a free starter out of it, when they chucked me out!

There is a five star restaurant here? Which restaurant(s) here would be rated as five star by anyone?
The food in most Villages restaurants is mediocre at best and ketchup, or condiment of choice, is reasonable to use to make the food palatable.

I hope the OP never witnesses your eating habits in a restaurant. Mixing mayo and malt vinegar with ketchup BEFORE tasting the food? Your table must be full of condiments throughout your meal. Blasphemy!
 When I met my husband he told me that when he was growing up his family put grape jelly on grilled cheese sandwiches. I was shocked, and disgusted and said "This is how people from PA eat?" Then I tried it, after all how could I knock it without trying it, right? It IS delicious. Before you roll your eyes think cheese Danish. This is what it tastes like. I changed from having it with grape jelly to strawberry preserves. I bet it would be good with apple preserves too but haven't tried it. And I'll admit there have been times I've dipped a grilled cheese sandwich in mayo.

I don't like the smell of ketchup, but I have no phobia or special loathing for it. I'm right with you on the pizza-dipping nightmare. In fact I'm a bit perplexed by the obsession with ranch dressing. People down here dip their buffalo wings in the stuff. And if you ask for blue cheese dressing for your hot wings, they charge extra, or just add blue cheese crumbles to their ranch dressing, or both. And some restaurants "feature" ranch dressing as the condiment for ALL their sandwiches. That stuff is just nasty. Ranch dressing's only saving grace is that it isn't Miracle Whip.

First off, you wouldn't eat a camel meat. That's kinda like eating horse meat.
You'd probably have a falafel, or a black bean pattie in a pita pocket, with plenty of tahini, or hummus if you want something more pasty than tahini. You might have lamb, with tahini, tziziki, or mint leaves. Or roast eggplant with zaatar in a creamy yogurt sauce with other veggies over rice.
SO many amazing awesome choices for halal dining. And don't forget the Halavah with pistachios for dessert.

I have eaten horse meat as a child in the US and as an adult in France and found it pretty good. I love lamb, hummus and eggplant but found mutton tough and strong in a Navajo stew. Camel steaks are available at specialty markets although I never tried them.

I've never used it. I got it when we moved in, 5 years ago. It's still unopened. I did the same in our house up north. Had a box, because everyone says that no proper kitchen is without one. Had it there over 10 years, then we moved and I tossed it.

We use a lot of old bay but I don't think we've ever put it on seafood and I think the picture on the box is shrimp and crabs (or fish). Anything that goes in a crockpot, stew pot or the oven gets a little, even eggs or mac and cheese, yummy.

Welll… actually I like ketchup on some foods. Sometimes the taste compliments the flavor. And it has to be a certain type of ketchup. Each to their own (taste buds).

We use a lot of old bay but I don't think we've ever put it on seafood and I think the picture on the box is shrimp and crabs (or fish). Anything that goes in a crockpot, stew pot or the oven gets a little, even eggs or mac and cheese, yummy.
Had it. Prefer a couple dashes of Tabasco to brighten things up a bit. Tabasco scorpion sauce if I'm the only one eating whatever the dish is.

Not just any vinegar. Malt vinegar. And only on fish and chips. Never on onion rings. you shouldn't even salt onion rings. If they're made right, they're perfect exactly as they arrive on the plate.
Disagree 0n onion rings. Most places don't make them crispy enough. Malt vinegar, even catsup can help make them more palatable.

America was finished as far as we were concerned, and labeled a failed state the moment you threw all that tea in the sea.
It wouldn't have been quite so bad if the water had been boiled.
But tea in cold water!!! :ohdear:
We love Iced Tea too!!!!

So you are also against iced tea? Barbaric I must say.
Tea is made with boiling water, drinking it cold is fine, but you cannot steep tea properly to bring out the flavor in cold water, it's, it's....................just not done!
It's like adding ice or water to a good whiskey. :icon_wink:

To further horrify you: we frequently make iced tea in COLD water. We get a large jar, fill it with water, & put TEA BAGS in it. Then once steeped we put it in glasses with ice cubes. We call it cold brew & we are foolish enough to believe it not only tastes better, but retains more healthy plant compounds. (Did that sound nice & Californian?)

Personal preference (especially here in the south where we're from ) perhaps ?
Why do people put ounce after ounce of "creamer" in their coffee, or multiple spoons of sugar on bowls of already mainly sugar breakfast cereal ?
We use a lot of ketchup, and much prefer the Heintz type with no sugar, all a matter of taste and the habits of the location where one grew up maybe ?

Maybe you should stay out of restaurants, that way you won't need to worry about what anyone else is or isn't eating.
Oh my goodness, surely this person is only spoofing people to have fun on "social media", no one, not even the "most picky" person could possibly care what others put on their food. To be "disgusting" or "sickening" it would have to be some NON food, NON edible put on the food ! We raised in the south folks put ketchup on so many things, but when we lived in Europe we tried the mayo served with FRENCH FRIES, I found it very good actually !

It definitely needs discussion, and let's face it, we haven't even touched on the gender orientation or preferences of the mixed ingredients yet.
I mean, is tomato paste actually comfortable in the presence of garlic?
A VERY pressing issue considering the state of world affairs at present, but yes, inquiring minds would like to know, myself among them !

Rush! My ALL time favorite music group. Talented, intelligent and high integrity guys. Not that common among progressive rock or heavy metal groups. Nice to see someone else on here who does not mind Geddy’s screeching voice… his own mother had trouble with it.
Back to food. Someone commented on garlic and tomato sauce. I use roasted garlic from my oven in several recipes… when I am not going to socialize later. Garlic gets into your blood and pores and if you eat enough, the smell is very hard to get rid of. But it ramps up your immunity system too. And it’s delicious!

As you have every right to do. What a dull world if everyone agreed with everyone else about every thing! Onion rings, imho, should be crispy, hot and not gummy or greasey. Salt, pepper, season to ones personal taste. Condiments may, if one chooses, may include any sauce of one's preference. I personally like ketchup, tartar sauce, most of the various Tabasco flavors, malt vinegar, Wasabi and low sodium soy sauce, among others.

Did that this morning! Fried potatoes, onions, bell pepper. Dropped egg (over very easy) on top. A drizzle of ketchup and a dash or ten of Tabasco (I love Tabasco). Great, easy to fix, way to start your day. 🥵🥵🥵

Crispy, hot, not gummy or greasy, agree 100%. I also like for the batter to be a light batter, not a thick batter. Old-school has your order come in either a "brick" or a "half-brick" and when you pull one ring up from the batch, it starts to crumble, revealing a peek at the soft, translucent onion inside.
Anything you put on it is - well your own preference. But a properly made batch of rings shouldn't "need" any condiment or seasoning at all. It should be able to stand on its own merit.

Having grown up in Pittsburgh, toured the plant when a brownie scout (back when the insurance companies didn't care), and received a pickle pin to wear on my blouse and a little cup of tomato juice, I will only eat Heinz ketchup. That other kind--is it Hunts?--blech!! Watery. Tasteless.
I don't know why people put ounces of creamer in their coffee, but I confess to having dumped tons of sugar on a bowl Grape Nuts. Not for decades, but yummmm.

OK, 205 posts about ketchup :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
What do we know so far:
Apparently, it's OK to use it before the age of 10
It's "haram" in certain religions
It belongs on hamburgers and fries, but not hot dogs
The best hot dogs are either Nathans or Sabrett's
Some people like ketchup, others don't
Some people use even stranger condiments on fries
There is a 10 post tangent on "old bay"
I've read and participated in this thread, and I can feel my IQ dropping by the minute

Nah! But he's almost down to mine.
Mom bought catsup. I grew up on that. A taste of home. Wife gets what is on sale. Last on sale was Heinz. At a restaurant, you get what they have, even if it is bulk used to refill the Heinz bottle on the table, which some apparently do. Like Coke or Pepsi, you get the cola they have.
