Did not know they had commercials and heard that they were radio commercials. Have had satellite radio for 15+ years and so glad I subscribed.

BIngo! If I knew nothing else about Frank Gay Services that commercial alone would steer me away from them.

Sadly, they are buying up all of the local HVAC businesses that were honest and resonable.

I understand that they charge $39 just to provide a quote. Quotes should be free. I would never pay a contractor for a quote.

I too hate those commercials for Frank Gay on The Villages radio station. I told my husband I would not hire them just because of their commercials. Now we hear that they have high prices. They might need a revamp of their professional image.

Prices for almost all services within the Villages are high. I recently changed from the Villages Dental to a dentist in Leesburg and saved almost half for the same services.

Called them out to hook up a gas stove. Immediately went into sales pitch for service contracts. Said it would save $150 on stove hook up. Quoted $500 for stove it I did not have service contract. I paid the $39 for his ridiculous quote and went to Lowes and got $15 valve and did it myself in about 15 minutes. Associate at Lowes said he hears complaints about Frank Gay all the time. Another plumber told me that job should be $200 on the high end.

Some gas companies will hook up a gas stove for a fee.

I would not recommend this company. The radio commercials indicate how hard it is to contact other companies for service...well that's exactly what it's like with Frank Gay! After you wait on hold, you get an answering service who knows nothing about the services. My plumber was 4 hours late (never called to let me know) and they charged $450 for less than 1/2 hour of work! I will look for another plumber in the future.

Call any one of many reputatable firms in Ocala. Many are large enough, and have nearby offices or travel to T.V. Ask 1st.
Firms who Do NOT have INTEGRITY, have nothing. Good luck.
Word of Mouth is everything!
It is/will catch up to them.

That is the same quote they gave my friends. That was for a gas water heater that had no leaks but wouldn't retain a flame. Actual need was a new thermocouple ($35 next day delivery from Amazon). If the tank isn't leaking, you don't necessarily need a new water heater. I had same problem and fix 6 months ago. Different plumber proposed new tank but at much lower cost. I chose the $35 self repair.

And expensive! At least the last time I had them out. I was charged $250 to simply flush the water heater tank. Nothing else.

I had an unexpected experience with Mike Scott. The Village Plumber was my goto until the last experience.
I thought I had flushed something plastic down the toilet but it did not clog. I called Mike Scott plumbing and explained in detail what happened, and asked if they would come out. I was told not to worry if there was no clog. Free. Later that day I found the piece of plastic, so I hadn’t actually flushed it. Their advice was correct.

I stopped up my garbage disposal, so I called a plumber I had used before, Mike Scott. This was on a Monday. Soonest they could come was Wednesday!! So, I had to call Frank Gay. They were almost $100 more than Scott, but they came that afternoon. So I had to pay for convenience. I was glad to get the sink back, so no complaints.

Obviously (as commented above), there is great (financial) diversity in The Villages. Some are willing to pay for convenience, it is what it is, others, can not afford the convenience. Family members were without hot water, but could not afford the (3 TIMES) the customary price so just had to make do until another company could get there. Was interesting that plumbers in the more customary/average price range are much further booked out ! ?

And we sure have MORE than our share of those here, and in every service and skills; landscape, heating/AC, electrical, appliance repair, FLOORING (some real gems in that category), garage "service" departments, etc. etc.

Teco gas installed my new hot water heater for free. Then let me pay over time interest free for the on-demand heater. That was a good deal.

Of course, the thinking goes: we need the money and you old folks have it and won’t be needing it soon (and you’re too far gone to notice it).

My regular plumber couldn't service me and he recommended a couple other plumbers to call. He suggested that Frank Gay was not a good choice.

Beware! Prices are very high.
This is a review I wrote on Yelp two years ago. Nothing has changed with Frank Gay since then.
We called Kiley plumbing which has become part of Frank Gay Plumbing because we had a leak in the wall of our garage. Their technician said we had to call Sleuth so they could determine exactly where the leak was coming from. So, $350 later, (for 5 minutes of "work?"), he marked where he said the leak was. How come I already knew where it was and the Frank Gay guy didn't??? Okay. So another Frank Gay plumber comes out. After too much verbiage this man told us we needed the entire house replumbed to the tune of ONLY $11,555 (WHAT???) and that figure did not even include a new hot water heater! I told him that would not happen in my lifetime. He also tried to sell us an annual plumbing service contract. Then he said (without any embarrassment) that he had 30 years of plumbing experience under his belt and was not going to fix the leak because he could not guarantee the work. Another WHAT???
The following day the Frank Gay Company called to ask if we had any questions and when would we like them to begin the work of replumbing the house. Yeah, right!
To make a long story shorter (because there is much more than what I've written), we ended up calling a qualified man who worked for himself and has his own plumbing business. He repaired the leak quickly and all is fine.
If anyone needs a plumber, do NOT call Frank Gay under any circumstances. They are bad news and not honorable.

"Have you noticed that they are not as reasonable as they used to be? One poster paid them $250 to have a water heater drained and flushed."
Dunno about that. But everyone who posts here does so from their own experience. Mine, with Village Plumber, over four calls, has been positive. Cases in point:
I paid $80 LESS for a new gas hot water heater, installed, than the advertised "special" price for the same service and item advertised here by another vendor.
I got an estimate for a special (according to my wife) kitchen sink, faucet and disposal. Estimate was free and overall price was reasonable. Work was was done the next week on the day stated with no problem. A subsequent problem with the faucet was handled promptly, parts and labor free.
I can't answer for other people, but we were treated well by Village Plumber and would certainly not hesitate to call them again.

I used Frank Gay for fairly straight forward work (replace two faucets, fix a "will not stop running toilet" and add a new shutoff for a refrigerator water line). Upon arriving, the plumber gave me a song and dance about how difficult the plumbing is in Villages homes. After the fact, I had another plumber in for another project who was quite reasonable (from Friendly Home Services in Summerfield). I believed him when he said I paid almost 3 times what I should have paid and I was mislead by the Frank Gay plumber. The worst part is that the Frank Gay plumber needed to come back to to fix all three new faucets he installed. And the toilet fix only lasted about 90 days and I now need to call another plumber; I will use Friendly again (Friendly does other work too - we used them to put in a new backsplash, install medicine cabinets and install new bedroom doors).

Amen. We had them for a quote to add a generator switch and an extra outlet in our master bath. We paid a service charge ($90?) for the quote.
The "quote" for the single outlet in the bath was over $700? We had another company come in and install the generator switch and the bathroom outlet for much less (1/4?) then the FG estimate.
I complained to them since the estimate was so out of reality, I felt the estimator was tired and did not want the job, and they refunded the estimate.
Funny commercials...not so funny estimates...
