Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in federal prison

Yesterday I read that his attorneys were asking for 5 - 6 years because 'investors would get their money back'. I'm pleased the judge didn't fall for that.

I wonder if he'll end up in Coleman?

I'll bet you a dollar that he doesn't actually serve 25 years.

According to the NY Times, he will likely be sent to a low- or medium-security prison in the San Francisco Bay Area so that he can be near his parents’ home.

Couldn't happen to a "nicer" person.

It's interesting that all of the targeted donations he made didn't save him. But, there is still time, I suppose.

Since no one serves the sentenced time, but gets out for various reasons, I couldn't possibly accept the bet. Now whether strings will be pulled for: low security, congenial weather, good food, as others have suggested, I cannot say. But suspect, I do suspect.

Martha Stewart spent her time at "Camp Cupcake". Which prison is the male version of that?

That is a slap on the wrist as he will get out early from a country club facility. He obviously has friends in the right places who are looking after him. No real justice for his many victims.

Agree. 50% time off for good behavior then a trip to the islands to spend the $$$ he has hidden away. Maybe he’ll “trip and fall” and true justice will prevail.

So SBF is convicted of stealing billions of dollars and will do time for that. If this stolen money was given to a political party as a campaign contribution,it is stolen money No? Don't they have to return that money.?After al it is stolen property ( or $$)

Am I the only one who is surprised at people actually getting involved in this in the first place. Crypto currency never interested me and I don't think of it as real money. We say so many times "one born every minute" ...................

25 years, slap on the wrist? Did read an article which stated that most of the victims will get their money back. This was a quick, arrest, indictment and trial. In meantime we have an ex pres who is facing 91 indictments and still free and only 1 case is close to going to trial.

I read article where most will NOT get their money back lucky to get 10 cents on dollar. Cause somebody charged don’t mean they’re guilty yet.

Yes and we have a sitting Pres that took bribes while in office as vp and yet here we sit. As always one only see what they want to.

I read most of the comments about this guy. I retired from Bureau of Prisons in 2015. At one point I worked at the Designation Center in Grand Prairie, TX.
He will be placed in either a "Low" or a "Medium" based the review of the inmate's criminal history. Chances are he will not be designated to Coleman. Also he will serve 85% of his sentence based on "Good Conduct Time". This is given to all inmates serving 1year and 1 day.

And now they are after his parents. Somehow, on a combined $200,000 yearly income, they managed to pay cash for a $16,000,000 house in The Bahamas. Gotta think at least a few dollars of that came from the fraud commited by their little snowflake.

I would think that they all will have their financial activities under a microscope for the rest of their lives, will have to give very detailed depositions , if caught in a lie its back to prison, seizure of assets

If the sentence holds up on appeal, he won't serve 10 years. He will serve much more than that. Likely 15 to 18 years. It's Federal Prison and not hard to figure out the minimum time a person will serve after all the potential sentence reductions are applied.

Have to look at what party he gave the money too. If is was DT you bet it would have to be return
