WHY? Because>>>

LSU women’s basketball came under fire on Monday night after the team didn’t come out for the national anthem before its regional final game against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

A video from OutKick’s Dan Zaksheske showed Iowa players holding hands during the rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner." LSU had left the court right before the anthem was played.

Iowa won the game 97-84 behind Caitlin Clark’s 41 points.

LSU head coach Kim Mulkey was asked after the game why the team didn’t come out for the national anthem. Mulkey chalked it up to "routine."

Personally, these actions are so irritating to me. When will this stuff end?

Same from here. Do not understand why people/teams act like this. Aren’t they happy to live in a country like the USA??? Irritating is an understatement.

I love the Kaitlin Clark storyline and how she literally put a program on her back and made everyone of her teammates better in the process. That said, Gino Auriemma is my guy and the UConn women (and men’s team) are peaking at the right time in their respective tournaments. NC State, men and women’s teams may have something to say about both! Good stuff!

As an Iowan and a University of Iowa alum I say.......Go Hawks! The Iowa women's basketball program is a class group of ladies that are a pretty competitive group of basketball players.

I am not really an Iowa fan (go IU!) but I do like basketball. I’ve watched Clark play and am just amazed at her three pointers. She is skilled and and appears to be a team player. Swish!

I never saw that comment but when you break Maravich’s scoring record (although in a lot more games - 83 for Pete and 130 for Clark), the publicity is clearly deserved.

I also have no dog in this but….. they didn’t NOT STAND, they weren’t even there. Their coach said they were doing pregame things in the locker room and didn’t even know they were playing the national anthem. Apparently fans want the coach fired.

I’m sure I’ll take a lot of crap for this, but not everyone is a fake patriot.

Being a real patriot means you want your country to be the best it can be and work towards that end—not just wrapping yourself in the flag and making gestures in public to fool some people into thinking you are a patriot. That accomplishes NOTHING! Be a REAL patriot and help your country be better.

I don’t look to or up to 18-21 yr. old college athletes.....or professional athletes , or TOTV for that matter....for pointers on respect and patriotism. It really doesn’t bother me like some. Disrespect is on full display across this country on the daily. Other than the initial ‘shock’ from these actions or inactions, there is no boycott. Nor should there be. The NFL ratings, advertisers and interest has never been higher. The Iowa/LSU semifinal was the highest rated in women’s history. All of these athletes, amateur and pro alike are making more money than at any other point in history. And at the end of the day, we all are still watching....and directly or indirectly, by doing so...are lining all their pockets. It’s the good, bad and the ugly side of a democracy

From News:

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry urged state officials to enact a policy that requires student-athletes to be present for the national anthem after the LSU women’s basketball team received harsh backlash for missing the national anthem before its regional final game against Iowa Monday night.

"It is time that all college boards, including Regent, put a policy in place that student athletes be present for the national anthem or risk their athletic scholarship! This is a matter of respect that all collegiate coaches should instill."

A video from OutKick’s Dan Zaksheske showed Iowa players on the court holding hands during "The Star-Spangled Banner." LSU had left the court right before the anthem was played.

Mulkey said after the loss to Iowa her team’s absence was "routine."

"Honestly, I don't even know when the anthem was played," Mulkey said, via OutKick. "We kind of have a routine when (our players are) on the floor, and they come off at the 12-minute mark (prior to the game).

Disturbing how many in our country do not respect our flag, honor the fallen, and take so much for granted that we have in our great country. This is yet another example. The coach stated "routine" for her team to not stay for the anthem. What a hollow response. So glad that Iowa won the game, and apparently honors their country.

Our National Anthem shouldn't be played at sporting events. The tradition started during war time. First the Civil War then WWI. We are not at war, unless you consider with ourselves!

Actually, it appears that we ARE at war - internally. What's wrong with our national anthem, wherever it is played. Personally, I'm tired of the disrespect within our country - worse than ever, especially within our universities. Seems that if we fly our flag, honor our country, salute our flag, or any other ways to show our patriotism --- it appears that we are on ONE side. It's like a cancer in our country.

She may be....and ‘to take a look at who...’, just look down the road a bit from TV, a little castle with a princess. Yup, that’s right, Disney! 80% ownership of ESPN and 100% operational control. Remember that if it bothers you to this extreme next time you hit the turnstiles at the Magic Kingdom or watch a favorite tv show. Directly or indirectly, you’re underwriting the narrative.

"Mulkey then proceeded to emphasize that they didn’t purposely ignore the anthem, as they were simply doing their routine and fulfilling their pregame responsibilities. Mulkey noted that it was “nothing intentionally done.”

“Honestly, I don’t even know when the Anthem was played. We kind of have a routine where we’re on the floor and then they come off at the 12-minute mark. I don’t know. We come in and do our pre-game stuff,” Mulkey explained.

Ok, OK then. So it's their "routine". "Honestly......." There are so many times when we hear "honestly".... meaningless and a dishonest cover.

So their 'routine' is to dishonor the country... Funny that other teams' routines stay out their to stand for our anthem.....

I got UConn in both tournaments. That said, not gonna shed any tears if the women’s team loses to Iowa. They, UConn are the pinnacle of women’s basketball with many titles to support that. The Clark storyline is an anomaly in the game. IU doesn’t have the feeder HS athletes like generational programs (UConn, Tenn, SC to name a few) do. She could’ve gone to all of those schools. Instead she chose to build a championship pedigree in Iowa. Totally unselfish talent and human being. A fun weekend upon us

I agree but let’s not make her a saint by staying in school , she made almost 3 million in NIL money and with her other commercial promos some put her close to 4 million , which I’m very happy for her , as far as the anthem , haven’t the same people beaten this to death since the football controversy and are all those guys still not watching football.and if so the NFL doesn’t care

Agree with you.

Freedom of speech is not having to salute the Flag or whatever. Many people have extremely different life experiences than us here in the Villages. They would have very diverse reactions to saluting the US flag or whatever. We live in a country where fortunately we are not forced to worship some emperor with no clothes like in North Korea or Russia. And follow all the ridiculous pomp and circumstance you would find in North Korea. Most of it for the ego of the ruler of North Korea.

Nobody said she (assume you’re referring to Clark) is a ‘saint’! NIL makes it so student athletes can have the option to stay for the four years and not be pressured to sign rookie deals that in some cases....women’s sports specifically, are much less. In the process, her stock rises, she gets her degree and the university has elevated exposure in the process. Nothing negative on that front

To take this a step further.....Iet me preface, I’m one to stand and participate in the anthem at all events that have one. In person

That said, if you’re on your Lazy Boy in your ‘man cave’ or ‘she shed’ and the anthem is playing on your tv....do you stand? If we’re being honest, none of us do. So my question is, is their action or inaction during an athletic contest make you or them....more or less of a patriot? Or is it just for the cameras?

If forced, just for the cameras. It should be required if you are in one of the US armed services as a sign of unity is good for the image we project to our sometime enemies. And they are getting paychecks from the US government.

Forced patriotism is not patriotism but survival especially in places like Russia and North Korea.
