If I need to leave town on a non-trash day, is there a public dumpster in TV where I can off load bagged trash?
I don't want to put it out early as a courtesy to my neighbors and when the non-courteous do so, wildlife always seems to get a hold of it.

I’ve done the postal station a couple of times. But only a grocery store plastic bag size. We plan it so we don’t have much trash. If we are a few days after trash day we use that as an excuse to eat out and not generate any trash.

We leave it in the garage. Neighbor comes over on trash day and puts it at the curb. We have four or five neighbors that we all do this for.

When going out of town, I take my trash bags to the big dumpster at my Rec center (not going to mention the name) as I don't want it at left at the curb and critters ripping open the bags. The dumpster is enclosed and unlocked and I always see other garbage bags in it, so I believe it's ok. And there's always ample room in the dumpster.

Same... We often drive north at 0:dark 30, and when we've dropped off a bag of trash, we've often seen one of the Community Watch cars in the parking lot. I asked if it was okay, and they told me it was fine...

Our neighbors put their trash in a big rubbermaid trash can just inside their carport, and we roll it out to the end of their driveway the night before trash day. We roll it back empty at the end of that day.
We roll our own out once a month or so, when we weed the garden beds and trim the shrubs and what not, or if we have stinky food (like a chicken carcass and shrimp tails) that we don't want to sit in the kitchen trash bin. The trash guys haven't ever complained. But we put the big bag in the garbage can, and tie the bag, and the trash guy can just tip the can over the back of his truck and the bag slides right out, sealed and tidy.

I don't think there is anything that is designated as a "public" dumpster. Typically, dumpsters are privately owned and someone is paying a monthly rental and service fee to use them.

We've not known of one and travel often been here a long time. We've always had to impose on a neighbor and then reciprocated of course. Have noticed (it's very obvious) that the AB&B places (not talking about long term renters, or seasonal folks) just put trash out any day of the week and leave, those places, three in our neighborhood and large homes they are, always have bags of trash no matter if they are there one night, 2, or a long weekend, might be the owners have told them the MUST not leave trash in the home ?

Re: the dumpsters at rec centers and other areas in/around The Villages:
Those are paid for by whoever owns the property the dumpster sits on, they're not part of the amenities. You're not "allowed" to put your trash in them. However, the property managers/owners/neighbors aren't really going to care if you use them. "Accepting that you do this" is not "tacit permission." If you lift the lid to toss a trash bag in, and a rat comes out and bites you, you can't sue the property owner for having unsanitary conditions. That's because you didn't have the right to do that in the first place. You do it at your own risk, which is fine - I did the same thing once up north when our community dumpster was full and the Wawa down the street had room in theirs for a trash bag.
As for the trash cans at the postal stations: they're INTENDED for people to toss whatever mail they don't want to take home with them. That might be plastic wrapping, it might be junk mail, it might be small boxes or bubble wrap, or envelopes, and so on. Maybe you brought your Wendy's soda cup with you while reading through your mail and now it's empty so you toss that in too.
But it's not intended for you to clean out three months worth of crap in your car and stuff a garbage bag into the can, and it's not intended for you to put feces in it.
You shouldn't NEED rules for this. It's called "being a civilized adult living in a first-world country, and having a mother who cared enough about her child's future to teach them manners."
If you had a horrible mother, you could be forgiven. If not, then it's on you to behave like a civilized adult, whether the rules say you have to or not.

I’m pretty sure the land the dumpster sits on is owned by either the the District which collects my amenity fee to run activities at the center or the District which collects my maintenance fee to take care of the facilities. Either way, my neighbors and I fund trash collection at those facilities.

Whatever their intention for the garbage cans, most people will not take junk mail with them. The alternative would be to leave them on the bench where the wind blows them around. Just because someone puts something into your letter box does not mean that you will do anything with it. Or even pick it up.

Your first paragraph may be true....so what’s your point?
By doing so...does that give you the right to throw household trash into those containers...as stated herein?
Your second sentence is true. The suggested receptacle for discarded mail is usually a blue secured recycling container found in most PO. But the regular ‘cans’ are meant for passive use trash like a coffee cup etc. Not someone’s solid kitchen waste bags

You are correct that your fees help to pay for the dumpster rental at the rec centers. But, for Villagers or others to use the dumpster, it is technically considered illegal dumping by Florida law. On the other hand, the rec centers do not seem to be inclined to enforce the law. If they wanted to do so, they could post a sign, use a camera to identify violators, and report them to the police.

What blue secured recycling container and what PO? This thread is about the Villages which have postal stations, no “inside” accessible by the public, and no recycling.
As for the first part, I was responding to an assertion made in a previous post. The assertion was wrong and therefore does not support the conclusions that followed.
Reports of both the rec center employees and community watch affirming that the dumpsters can be used for the purposes described in this thread are good enough for me.

Illegal dumping seems to be defined as dumping on private property without permission. There are probably definitions that include public property as well. In this case there was permission given so…

Isn't the rec center considered private property? And, at least some of the dumpsters are owned by Jacobs, which is a private company.
Also, I'll bet you a dollar that no Villages department will put it in writing that Villagers have permission to use rec center dumpsters. The rec centers even instruct event organizers that they are not allowed to use the dumpster.

Its funny. And I know you read every post in a thread...so you know it started as 'small bags' and got reduced to 'mattress tags'. Earlier posts were about household trash... crap they missed during their curb p/u.....big difference. When you see them lock the dumpsters like they do in your mid Atlantic states and mine as well, you'll know it got abused. And it will. 'He/she said it was ok'....so sell out an employee instead when it doesn't work out. I think I remember using that narrative....in elementary school

Who would be the private entity that owns the rec centers? I believe they are owned either by VCCDD or the numbered CDD (and I'm a bit embarrassed I don't know which).
Second, when the rec centers want to shut down poker because of the gambling their justification is you can't gamble in Govt. owned buildings in Florida. This also indicates the rec centers are owned by a CDD.
There might be a "property of Jacobs" sign on the dumpster or there might be Jacobs advertising on the dumpster but the dumpster was provided for use by the rec center. Rec center rules would apply and ALL we have to go on so far are multiple reports that the rec center has said it is ok to use the dumpster for the small amount of trash described in this thread.

Wow, you’re reaching now. It’s all good, it’s posts like this that always come back to haunt one on other threads. ‘He/she said it was ok’ Duly noted
'He/she said it was ok' is fine but those words are trumped by signage or govt. statute.
Look at my signature block, do you think I have not already looked for something writing? If you have something, please post it.

That was my original point with you! YOU said there is no policy you can find to say you 'cannot' do it. I'm saying show me where it says you can...do it?! Thats what you always ask of others here.
You got some on another thread throwing gate attendants under the proverbial bus....and here you all are dry snitching on rec center employees trying to be nice and avoid drama. Great lessons learned here

Maybe my thinking is skewed, but the town squares are public property because they are open to the public. But, the rec centers are private property because you need a Villages ID card to enter them. I'll still bet you a dollar that no Villages department will state in writing that Villagers have permission to use the rec center dumpsters for household trash.

I don't think there is anything that is designated as a "public" dumpster. Typically, dumpsters are privately owned and someone is paying a monthly rental and service fee to use them.
Yes we are paying for rec center dumpster’s :throwtomatoes:

Who else can tell you it's okay if not the people working there?
And if you read the thread (like I do), you'd know we're talking about disposing on trash if you're leaving on a "non-trash day"... Not because they "missed their pickup"...
Not a massive amount of trash, typically a day or two, since trash is picked up twice a week...
But you're juvenile insult is noted...

From the guy who came in "guns a blazin'" from the day he joined, that's rich...
Have I ever asked to leave trash with a neighbor? Yes I have.
Our trash is picked upMonday and Thursday. We typically clean out the fridge Thursday morning of everything except what we'll need for Thursday night and Friday (we typically go out to dinner the night before we leave).
But when I'm leaving at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning, I won't bother them with the few things we still need to throw out.
Maybe YOU feel entitled enough to do that, but personally, I'd rather not be a pest...

You actually think they're going to "interrogate" all of their employees, under bright lights, with threats of a beating with a rubber hose to find out who DARED to give me such damaging information?
Funny, I see no one giving "hits" to any employee on this (or any of the previous thread on this topic). Maybe that's just your overactive imagination?

Absolutely correct. I have been in this situation many times as I have spent the last year between here & there. I know when I am going to leave & get rid of everything I can. What remains on that final morning is a lot of 'not much'. Used coffee pods, paper towels, a couple of napkins, maybe some tissues, etc. & frequently on that final morning I leave long before my neighbors are awake.

I save up the feces in my car for a few months and dump it in the postal station all the time. Not a problem.
Good grief this forum is full of wackos. How do do you get months of trash and feces out of a coffee cup? Really. The bins at the postal stations are for trash that you may have with you for any reason. A score card, junk mail, a coffee cup. And yes I put a small grocery store size bag in there if it’s not trash day when I travel. It’s all going to the same place and funded by the same people, us.
Hit the nail on the head!

Your description would be a small "plastic" grocery bag...the kind that would fit in a barrel at the Postal Station (if that is you MO). Do you need a dumpster for what you described? Exactly, thats my point.

But that was the entire point of the post. What to do with the remains on a non-trash day when leaving. Just because it got derailed, doesn't change the poster's request. One of my favorite drop offs was the I-75 north bound Ocala rest stop. But! Horrors! That rest station has been closed for renovations, & I think will remain closed until 2025. It was only about a half hour into my 1,000 mile journey. It was perfect. (weeping noises here). So, while I should have been able to help the OP, I was looking for ideas myself.
I am grateful for the rec center dumpster idea.

Good morning and thank you for your email.
The recreation Dumpsters are solely for the use by our recreation centers and our approved contractors doing work at our facilities. These are not to be used for household trash. When there was no misinformation to correct. When going out of your way to escalate the issue could affect the employment of individuals who were likely giving what they believed to be correct information. When the result is the end of a courtesy that was helping some and hurting no one.

It wasn't until a "snitch" (your words, not mine) contacted them did they give an opinion on the matter.
And now, they want names of rec centers and employees... Good job!
You really are gullible if you don’t think TV management and employees don’t read this forum. Since they probably already know people like you will always air your grievances on it...and not in person. It’s a wise read for them.
You started this post with ‘but I did say rec center employees and Community Watch said it was fine’ Talk about lighting the wick!
Since you’re selective in response to posts....go back and read where I introduced the rec center dumpsters/employees in the thread or as a user. That’s you Einstein!
As far as them ‘wanting names of rec centers and employees’....you and your pals walked ‘retired’ down that path. Don’t accuse me of something just because your lack of posting anything of value ....stock is low.

I would just clarify that Community Watch has nothing to do with establishing the policy of who can use the rec center dumpsters. They are not part of the Recreation Department. They are a separate department. So, anything a Community Watch employee says about dumpster usage may not be reliable information.
