I Have had and currently do Have my IRA in a T Rowe Price Target fund as well as another MF with them.

I will have another $100K in a month or two to invest when we get to the villages.

I am wondering why I never see any Talk of T.rowe on here.

I am no savvy investor Just a hard working stiff who saved for a retirement.

I see Fidelity and Vanguard talked about
all the time here and am looking for someplace to put the $100k just for around 5% income annually.

I also do Have a fidelity Brokerage account I use and I used Vanguard years ago

What am I missing using T Rowe?

Thanks

You are missing nothing. T.Rowe Price is a great company that I used when I had my business since they were very accommodating to small business needs. Smaller than Vanguard or Fidelity.

From Google;
Who is the largest shareholder of T. Rowe Price?
Vanguard Group Inc
Largest shareholders include Vanguard Group Inc, BlackRock Inc., State Street Corp, VTSMX - Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund Investor Shares, Fayez Sarofim & Co, VFINX - Vanguard 500 Index Fund Investor Shares, Geode Capital Management, Llc, VIMSX - Vanguard Mid-Cap Index Fund Investor Shares, Charles Schwab ...

All of my funds are "Self-Directed" in free Wells Trade accounts.

A mix of Pre-tax & After-tax dollars.

All of my trades are free.........no fees.

I have a handful of TPR funds..............they are competitive, but they don't spend as much on advertising.

I have a couple of TRP funds. They have been primarily in growth, not income & for the long term my personal return on them has been 9.15%

Of course this year so far has been better, but you know the stock market.

I may consolidate them just for simplification, & to shift to a more income based portfolio, but overall, over time, I am very pleased (& this has been over a pretty long haul - some horrific bears were weathered: 2000 dot com bubble, 2008 financial collapse, & so on).

But you know, they are just workhorses, not sexy, so not much to talk about.

There is nothing wrong with T.Rowe Price. But, they are just not as good as Vanguard and Fidelity. For example, the T.Rowe Price S&P 500 Index fund has an expense ratio of 0.20 percent as compared with 0.04 percent for Vanguard and 0.015 percent for Fidelity. So, in terms of the management cost for basically the same fund, their cost is way higher. Also, the 5-year and 10-year total returns for the T.Rowe Price fund is lower than the returns for the Vanguard and Fidelity index funds. I would suggest comparing other funds and investments offered by T.Rowe Price with similar Vanguard and Fidelity investments. I think you will find that you get more for your money with Vanguard or Fidelity.

Look if you're only looking for a 5% return on your investment you can simply put $100K in an FDIC insured saving account.
There are online banks that are offering 5% plus and because they are insured you can sleep at night without having to worry about the whims of the markets.
You just have to check every now and then to make sure their interest stays at the same rate, if it dips below, you move it, but remember the principle is safe.

There isn’t much difference between TRP, fidelity, Schwab, or any other brokerage house, except:
* if you do your own investing, what online tools do you like? Out of all of them, I prefer Schwab
* if you get lucky and find a broker that can make you money after all the fees, loads, etc, then go with them. Say you make X% means nothing unless you qualify with all extras you have to pay.
* any brokerage can sell you any funds, Schwab can sell you vanguard funds and fidelity funds. A few houses might have funds that are hidden from outside houses

I have used TRP for over 45 years. Very happy with the company and returns. Capital Appreciation is one of my favs! Good luck. It’s all legalized gambling anyway.

T Rowe Price is good but all of them are just a sales outfit to buy the same stuff.

My "bond" style investment is JEPQ has a dividend yield of 8.97% and paid every month. Now this is a stock & can go up and down but doesn't much. If you get it to be safe buy it then put a stop loss order at 98% of that cost. If it hits and sells just but it again

Thanks so Much everybody. A lot of good insight.

I do Have an online savings account paying 4.25% right now but I think I will look into some MM funds mentioned here in another thread paying 5% plus.

I basically want to stash that 100K and get around 5%, not worry abut it and use the income towards taxes when I get there

There are many money market funds that pay over 5%, I’ve been in a couple for 2 years

TRP is a woke company. When The Walt Disney Co. had their recent proxy fight, TRP sided with the company against the best interests of the shareholders. In this time of SEG, I would re-think letting then hold my assets.

Both Lending Club and CIT savings accounts (very reputable online banks) give 5%+

I never worry, nor do I care, what my advisors charge. I worry about what I get.

Vanguard and Fidelity are much bigger organizations than T Rowe Price in terms of assets managed. That is the main reason the public hears less about TRP, not because there is anything wrong.

I agree that is a reason. In addition, it could be that Fidelity is used by a lot of employers for their 401(k) accounts, so when a retiree rolls a 401 into a self-directed IRA, it might seem easier to just stick with Fidelity. Also -- some people prefer to have a bricks-and-mortar office available like Fidelity and Schwab have in some places. Sometimes it is just a matter of a preference for the way the website works. We are all creatures of habit.

None of these things means that one is better than the other.
