Yesterday went to Hollerbach’s German restaurant in Sanford. It was excellent. I can’t say enough about it. I haven’t had German food like that in years. Can’t wait to go back. Food and music superb! What a fun afternoon.

Pork saurkraut and shots of Jagermeister. What's not to like?

This was a bus trip with Senior Adventures. Maybe they will do another one. It seemed to be a hit.

If you're looking for something closer, we like Bavarian Haus in Mt Dora. We find the food to be really good, and walking around the quaint downtown fun to explore. We've been to the Sanford restaurant and also enjoyed that, but just find the one in Mt Dora more convenient. The original owners sold it a couple of years ago, but we didn't find any drop-off in quality

German is an underrated cuisine. I’d make that drive if it’s as good as mentioned.

Hollerbach’s is good but we think Mr Dunderbak's on the North side of Tampa is even better. The drive time from the Havana CC area is about the same and you really don't have to get into Tampa traffic. Stay on I-75 past the I-275 split to the next exit, turn right and they are about four miles down on the left.

My opinion is that there is a reason that there are few German restaurants. Took a tour through southern Germany last year and practically all you hear about is which town or city makes the best Sausage or Schnitzel. Yes they have Pretzels and Kraut. But their cuisine isn't that exciting to me. Doesn't taste any better at a restaurant than it does at home . Takes beer and entertainment to make it exciting.

Better. I'd recommend making the drive. Plus there is a farmer's (like...) market a block or so away that is fun also.

In addition to the overall excellency of the cuisine the portions are huge. Be prepared to bring back a container or leftovers for an evening snack.

Hollerbachs isnt worth the drive to Sanford for a typical boring german meal in a tourist trap restaurant.

Save time and travel…just buy a hot dog and kraut at Publix …its as good as any german meal.

Do you put 'ketchup' on your Publix 'tube steak' err hot dog? (asking for a different thread!)
