We all have our likes and our dislikes. But... when we're doing news - when we're doing the front-page news, not the back page, not the op-ed pages, but when we're doing the daily news, covering politics - it is our duty to be sure that we do not permit our prejudices to show. That is simply basic journalism.

Source: Wikipedia, however, it is easy to research from many sites:

The fairness doctrine of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, was a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that fairly reflected differing viewpoints.[1] In 1987, the FCC abolished the fairness doctrine,[2] prompting some to urge its reintroduction through either Commission policy or congressional legislation.[3] The FCC removed the rule that implemented the policy from the Federal Register in August 2011.[4]
The fairness doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. Stations were given wide latitude as to how to provide contrasting views: It could be done through news segments, public affairs shows, or editorials. The doctrine did not require equal time for opposing views but required that contrasting viewpoints be presented. The demise of this FCC rule has been cited as a contributing factor in the rising level of party polarization in the United States.[5][6]
While the original purpose of the doctrine was to ensure that viewers were exposed to a diversity of viewpoints, it was used by both the Kennedy and later the Johnson administration to combat political opponents operating on talk radio. In 1969 the United States Supreme Court, in Red Lion Broadcasting Co. v. FCC, upheld the FCC's general right to enforce the fairness doctrine where channels were limited. However, the court did not rule that the FCC was obliged to do so.[7] The courts reasoned that the scarcity of the broadcast spectrum, which limited the opportunity for access to the airwaves, created a need for the doctrine.

Now, we are products of which channels we choose. We are in a new media world, we are each identified by algorithms, which feed us more of the same.

United we Stand, Divided we fall. And cattiness is not helping. Discussions and ability to discuss and debate without name calling might be a great start to keep a Democracy.

Now, our anger, and viewership keep whole networks alive. Feeding often, anger, and a sense of unjustness - that very well could be manufactured by a station or source- that has a ‘sales/ratings’ and not Truth agenda.

Online news? You mean the “news” that is given by unknown people based in Russia, or a guy in his basement, or other people manufacturing salacious stories just to get clicks which are regulated even less than mainstream cable networks? No thanks. I’ll stick with mainstream (but not Fox which flat out lies) which has resources inside the events, inside the disasters, inside the courts first hand. They may give their opinions, but they are the ones that also giving out facts because you can watch the event live while it’s happening and see for yourself despite what their opinion may be.

I can remember when FOX ran a story about a certain Illinois Senator who was not paying taxes on her house. This went on for a week. This Senator didn't pay taxes because she was 100% disable from her war injuries in the Gulf War. In that state you pay no real estate taxes on your home if you qualify. Other states also have this written into their laws. Did FOX apologize? Nope!

Wouldn't it be refreshing if the news was separate from opinion as it seemed years ago. In the 70's/80's it seemed like there was news and there was opinion, they were distinct and separate. Over time its morphed into what we have today where you can't tell fact from fiction which necessitates you not believe any of it. Much of the time you can't even trust the fact checkers, what have we done?

As far as some making fun of new yorker's admit it, they've earned a little fun pokin.

Fox and MSNBC are not lying, what they are doing is delivering what their audience want to hear, even if it's not based on facts. I watch two news programs, ABC at 6:30pm simply because it flows into Jeopardy. The other is PBS which delivers both sides and does not rely on ratings or commercials. That freeing them to put forward news not propaganda.

Well, I must disagree.100%, this time. I'll only pick 3 things.

I say, lets speak about the last month only. It doesn't feel like "Entertainment News"when FOX vividly shows what is happening daily at our U.S. borders, on our U.S.College campuses, in the Square of our Ivy League Universities, or with our Beloved U.S. Marshalls and Police Departments..

For weeks, parts of the Internet have been down. We own an e-commerce business and have been struggling through the random outages. Yesterday it was Amazon seller central and PayPal.

My mom has been trying to get her TSA clearance for 3 weeks but couldn't due to the government's internal software not working. She also couldn't get a new phone last week because Verizon was down.

I think we are under some kind of cyber attack. This has been going on for weeks. If our livelihood wasn't reliant on the web, I probably wouldn't notice.

Let’s be honest all news reporters have their leanings in one direction or another, we all do even if we unaware of it.

But MSNBC and Fox have taken this to whole other level and as far as I’m concern, they should not be considered news networks. They either come to the defense or attack a position which they do or do not agree with to the point if you stand back you realize is nothing more than pandering to their viewers. Thier main concern are their ratings.
