This is very serious. I have been concerned this sort of action could become more common in our country because of political and economic unrest.
I sure hope this is a random act that not become more common.

Conflicting reports that she is dead and others say in surgery in hospital.
It is all over the news. JJ

Google FoxNews and you'll get the limited info. First reports was she died but now saying alive, but critical. Gunman is in custody--no motive given and there were others shot as well in the foray! Sad, sad, sad no matter what the political bent one takes. This is pure evil!!!

19 people shot in all and four are dead. It was at a Safeway, part of a public forum called "Congresswoman on the Corner" to put her in touch with constituents.
Sad. Horrible. Needless.

She is out of surgery and doctors are very optimistic for her survival. She was responding to commands. The gun shot was entirely through her head. Amazing!! We all hope for her complete recovery.

Unfortunately, a nine year old girl is dead. I understand a judge is also dead.
This type of action will occur again if our political disagreements don't become more civil.

A person named in the media as the alleged shooter has internet videos and postings that will probably be used in a mental health defense.

Yep. Hyperbolic rhetoric fuels paranoia.

They'll always be a few crazies in our midst. We can only hope not to be in their path or in their sights if or when they erupt. We cannot know the motivation that drove this twisted soul to commit this heinous action because we cannot know his mind.
To use this tragedy to further our own biases would be unseemly. Sometimes, as in the case of the 2 teenage girls in Texas who were murdered by the lonely soul they befriended, it was kindness on their parts that brought them into the damaged world of their killer, and culminated in their deaths.
The forces that drive a killer of the seemingly innocent has been dissected and bisected by learned criminologists for years and it rarely brings us closer to predicting who might cross that line or why.

This shooting is a lot like Army psychiatrist Hasan shooting at Ft. Hood---a guy well known for his rants about jihad and beheading people (terrorist talk), in a medical lecture at Walter Reed Army Hospital, no less! Today's shooting is very similar. See the shooter's self-described as "terrorist" rants on youtube and myspace at the CNN link below.
Now why is it that today's shooter is being given a pass, blaming his actions on "vitriolic" political talk and not on HIM being a known wacko who ADMITTED he is a "terrorist" on internet videos?!?!?!?
I think it is just as bad to stereotype an entire group of political opponents as "bigots", "haters", "vitriolic", (the sheriff said this on TV) and "hyperbolic", when the mass murder spree was the sick work of only one guy.
See some of his internet postings here. We're in big trouble if murderers are given the excuse of "others" causing him to murder. Enough already!!!

Hi Jane,
Not sure why you quoted me to make this point. I blame him for his actions and hope he gets prison for life. The politics of the Congresswoman shot is irrelevant. I hope you do not mean to suggest that I see "an entire group of political opponents" as ... anything.
I'm not sure who has sterotyped an entire group for one guy's murder spree? But what's that got to do with my post?

And exactly what proof do you have that this shooter acted because of Sarah Palin?
None.
Shame on you.

Interesting no response from Shadow who has been logged in ever since I wrote my post. Maybe it is because during his research he has found that a guy who knew the shooter describes him as far left wing.. and the shooters includes both The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf among his favorite books.
Those are definitely all time favorites of most tea party people, right Shadow?

I agree. I can see where this topic is going.

The point is; that there is no real political finger to point in this tragedy and ANYONE who does so is a blithering idiot.
All evidence so far is that the shooter was a pot-smoking, leftist leaning, government mind-control conspiracy nut who had an obsession with the 2012 end-of-world theories.
How this makes him a puppet of the Tea-Party can only come from a deranged point of view or in a quest to make a political point out of ANYTHING. People need to get a grip on themselves.
If anything the shooter's political point of view seems much closer to Harry Reid than Sarah Palin; and what does this indicate? ..................ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Anyone can string a few points of information and come up with a conspiracy theory. In fact, that's just what this moonbat seems to have been doing.
While I think Palin's ad was *irresponsible* and in poor taste, I wouldn't begin to say that she had something to do with goading said moonbat.
Here's ahint: The guy responsible for killing those people is the guy who PULLED THE TRIGGER.
