My wife and I had dinner last night in Spanish Spring and got to listen to the band 'Relic', which we'd not heard before. I was impressed with all the instrument players (and really enjoyed the selection of 60s, 70s and 80s rock they played but I was completely blown away by the lead singer. They opened with a Queen song and he gave Freddy Mercury a run for his money. They played a couple of Led Zeppelin tunes and he blew Robert Plant away. Their cover of 'Paradise City' by Guns 'n' Roses was killer. He is simply the best rock vocalist I have ever heard play at any of the squares and the band does a great job supporting him. We will be looking for any time they come back to The Villages and will be in the audience for sure!
I've been posting for several years now and I've never done a fan letter to a band like this, so you have to believe I was honestly impressed.

We like them as well. One of our favs. They actually play some music from the 90's. Which in TV is considered newer music. lol
I'm 67 but I get tired of all the old, overplayed music.
I'd love to see a band play music from the 2000's and change things up a bit. With more and more people retiring early, TV is slowly trending younger and the bands will need to start reflecting that change at some point.
It does seem like the entertainment committee is bringing in some different/new bands occasionally.

Totally agree, easily in the top three bands I have seen at the squares over many years. The lead singer has incredible pipes, the whole band is very talented and tight, and they play a really good variety of music. Unfortunately, they will probably get discovered by Disney, get offered a better contract (like the Hooligans), and eventually disappear from the regular rotation. Hopefully I’m wrong?

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I saw half a set a few nights ago in Sumter and wasn't impressed. Maybe it was just an off night?

the only downside for me was the crowd, otherwise I felt like I was listening to my playlist

This is a generalization, but I find many bands tend to play their best stuff during the last set between about 8:15 and 9:00. Early on they focus on playing stuff that will get people dancing. During their last set they often cut loose and let it rip with some good Rock and Roll.

Relic rocked the house in Spanish Springs!!! My wife and I swung by Spanish Springs on our way home to "see" if the band was any good and ended up staying until they closed at 9 pm. They were awesome . . . Great vocals, instrumentals and song selection.

They are the two best bands that I have seen in the village squares. I saw a duo at Enda's called He said She said.. Check them out very good.

We are the same age and would appreciate more country bands and bands playing more recent tunes - and less rock.

He Said She Said used to play in the squares and I always tried to see their shows, but they got dropped from the rotation. The He in the band, Todd Fulcher, is a world class guitar player who absolutely rocks. Todd has been around forever and has played for the likes of Charlie Daniels. They got dropped because Todd played too much cranking rock and roll, which didn’t get people out on the dance floor. They tried to get Todd to tone his act down, but it’s just not in his nature (and a waste of his talent) to do songs like “Play That Funky Music White Boy”.
If anyone sees him playing at Edna’s, ask him to play his “The Star Spangled Banner” guitar solo and you’ll think you are listening to Jimmy Hendrix.

Yes they are good, but always super crowded , like when Rockey plays.

I was at SS with a friend that night and we were really impressed, we totally enjoyed listening to them. The lead singer was awesome! His vocals were much better than most we have heard at TV..

No we do not! I don't think they're very good at all. The lead singers voice isn't very good and the songs they play are too old. We both enjoy newer music, even though we're 67 and 68.
This is just our opinion.
But a lot of people do like Rocky.

I've seen ads for Penta playing the squares but hadn't checked them out. If you like them better than Relic, then I guess I have to go give them a listen!

I love listening to AOR (Album-Oriented Rock), Prog Rock, Led Zep, Heavy Metal, "hair bands" from the 1970's/80's, and so on. That's what I love to -listen- to. But most of it doesn't make for very good dance music. I know I see people line-dance to anything, but I'm not a line-dancer and frankly think that line-dancing to Stairway to Heaven should be against the law. I like music I can twist to. Or salsa to. Or cha-cha to. Or do a jitterbug to. And sure I can do the Electric Slide. To the song, the Electric Slide.
I'm very glad The Villages Entertainment mixes it up. I enjoy listening to "listening" music, and I enjoy dancing to "dance" music.
