Just wanting to find out how all these companies and people figure out when you close on your home and show up at your door step the minute you walk into your new home? Is there a way to get off that list? Thank you

Tell them they are uninvited trespassers and to leave immediately or you will call the police.

Unfortunately it's a matter of public record.

If you want to discourage them from ever returning, and maybe tell all their friends to not bother - while not threatening violence or the police, just be a curmudgeon.

[answer door]
Just stand there and wait for them to say something. If it's about them, being interested in cleaning your vents, mowing your lawn, fixing your driveway, selling you insurance, inspecting your roof, etc...

"Get offa my property ya <expletive expletive expletive> I <expletive> swear to <expletive> Christ you people are a <expletive expletive expletive>"

No threats needed. Just be whatever you consider your idea of being really rude is. Trust me. They won't come back.

Whittle a pistol butt, have it sticking out of the waist band, and when answering the door, just dead eye the caller, and say, "WHAT!"

Hard to prevent them from initially showing up. However how the homeowner handles such people can go a long way toward assuring that they don't come back.

Some years back, up in Minnesota, we were approached by a guy who claimed he was representing a whole-home security system company, and that he could install such a system in our home for HALF OFF THE USUAL PRICE. The kicker was that he was in town only for that day, and we would have to act on it immediately or lose our chance.

I remember replying, very seriously; "I HAVE security. .38 caliber security. My wife, too".

He left VERY quickly.

My neighbors who have been here much longer than me claim "soliciting" is not allowed in The Villages.

I think it is true because my statement to them is; ' why would I do business to a business that craps on our rules? why would I want to do business with criminals.? '
and they turn-around and leave the neighborhood quickly.

And if this is not true, why don't we make it a rule or law? Nobody wants door-to-door solicitation.

There is an unenforceable rule of no soliciting in The Villages. Some of the gate entrances even have a no soliciting sign. But, there is a Florida State law (501.022) that requires a permit to solicit. However, apparently the law doesn't specify a penalty for soliciting without a permit, so it would be difficult to enforce. However, anyone coming to your property to solicit is required to show you their state permit.

A young man, perhaps around 20 years old, knocked on my door last week and told me he was washing windows for my neighbors and asked if I wanted a quote. I didn’t say a word but pointed to my “no soliciting” sign. His response was: Oh, I thought it said “no singing”. I closed the door. Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.

I stopped by your place a few days ago to sing for you. But, I left because I thought it said "no singing", too. Sadly, I've lost my voice, so I won't be back. 😉

I am happy to answer the door, and with great success they leave immediately. No hassle, no threat, no signs.

Why I speak Cantonese when I open the door…they just leave. Any language will do except for Spanish..

Put a "No Soliciting" sign above your doorbell. Just like with spam calls, don't answer when someone unknown or unexpected rings. You have no idea what solicitors' real intentions are.

AND its not just if you buy. I rent on a yearly basis. Doorbell started ringing at 8am the1st day.

I just presented as annoyed as I had rolled out of bed to answer . They stopped.

Cannot make a law against them. It's legal. These are public streets.
Sure, TV can put up a sign, but it's not enforceable and would never be binding upon private property.

This is correct. The no soliciting "rule" is there to dissuade soliciting. But it has no meat to it. No one can be prevented from walking down the street. And "The Villages" could never make a rule that determines who is and who is not allowed on my property.

You don’t HAVE TO answer the doorbell. The law doesn’t require you to do that. When I moved to my current house, a handful of people showed up. Sometimes I pretended that I wasn’t home. If I did open the door, I just said no thanks. They didn’t come back.

Hmm. Ok. Soliciting makes people criminals. Really?? :BigApplause: congrats!! That’s the most uninformed comment made today on here. And to turn away solicitors you go through a whole speech like that?? Instead of just being an adult, saying no and closing the door??. lol. You must have a lot of time on your hands.

You have just used Christ's name in vain in this post. I find that unnecessary to make your point.
Please refrain from doing that in the future.

A CDD does not have any enforcement authority beyond deed restrictions. Talk to the county.

That would be a lie. "No soliciting" is about it. Or, how about "Go Away", or, "We Don't want whatever you're selling". My favorite, "Cannibal house! Solicitors will be eaten!"! 👺👹

Lucky you. We got quite a few in the first 2 or 3 weeks. It tapered off after that. We even had a woman dressed as a "Welcome Wagon lady", looked kind of official, name tag business suit. She had a little basket. She gave us her spiel along with a number of fliers for businesses that she was pushing. We also got a card that said "Welcome" and maybe a balloon, if memory serves. The nice little basket left with her. Welcome wagons ain't what they used to be. Mind you, this was back in 2013. Seems almost like yesterday, almost! Time sure flies when you have medical appointments most weeks.
