That being said, even though the facts aren't all known, I'll pose this question for speculation:
Scottie Scheffler----master criminal or victim of an overly exuberant police officer?

I was thinking the same thing. My take....whether you think it was acme dacme security or a LEO, when a human being 'attaches' himself to your vehicle....you dont pull off, you stop! That part is not in dispute. As always, the devil is in the details but his Attys will make it all better

Is it possible that Scheffler had no idea that the officer "attached" himself to the vehicle?

Everything is possible and why I said devil's in details.
Lots of blame to go around. Should be some body cam or cell phone footage surfacing at some point. Wasnt a remote country road. Chaotic scene so it will be interesting. You have the Gov and Mayor circling the waters...KY and greater Louisville stand to lose millions in economic impact if Valhalla loses this date...thus why I believe it will all be mitigated in the best interests of all parties

Again, they keep stating he " didnt know it was a police officer"...which leads me back to my first post on this. Why does it matter? A human being is attached to your vehicle. Stop!

The on the scene reports (from the golf side), suggest it didn't exactly happen that way. Supposedly, the officer in question jumped on Scheffler's moving vehicle, which immediately stopped.
There's also a rumor floating on X (Twitter) over the last 20 minutes or so, that the officer has been relieved from duty. Reiterating, it's only a rumor, posted by @PGATuor ... typically a very good source, but prone to satire on occasion.
Curiously, there is supposedly video cam of the entire event that has yet to be released.

Video said he drove pass and officer chased him down. Did’t follow police instruction. I highly doubt officer grabs moving vehicle, I would imagine he was shouting STOP and the golfer complied. It be pleaded down to and fine.

If a human being reached out and attached himself to my vehicle I certainly would not stop, that's how carjackings happen!
Also, is it possible the driver had no idea whatsoever that someone had chosen to attach themselves to the vehicle? Hopefully, some video of the incident will materialize and answer the questions of what actually happened.
Third, if a civilian suddenly maneuvers himself into a position to be struck by a moving vehicle and then files an insurance claim we call that fraud. In this case, the officer apparently suddenly maneuvered himself to be "attached" to a moving vehicle and then filed charges. Should there be a double standard?
Again, hopefully some video of the incident will materialize.

I tend to agree.
The witnesses stated that another official was waving Scottie in when the arresting officer ran after him, which fits the text that players received stating that there was a traffic problem, and players would be allowed to go through. If one is driving, trying to navigate around stopped and abandoned vehicles when it is dark and raining, your eyes are focused ahead of you. It may take a few seconds to realize someone has "attached" themselves to the side of your vehicle and another second or two to process that and stop. The witnesses also stated the officer was using foul language and banging his flashlight against the clearly marked PGA courtesy car. Professional behavior?????? The officer was described as a "detective". So he jumps on a moving car because it was making what he considered an illegal turn????? Just where did he think the car was going? He couldn't just note the license plate?
I just think the officer greatly overreacted, maybe because of the tragedy that had just occurred that he was investigating. He was not on traffic control duty and probably didn't get "the memo" that stated allow players and essential personnel through. He may have had poor impulse control as well, apparently slamming Scottie's face into the car window according to the witness reports.

First off, Scheffler made it a point to express his condolences to the family, since the moment the situation occurred.
Secondly, what goes money have to do with anything? And the "retiree" who was "volunteering", PAID to be a volunteer. That's how it works. $270 + applicable taxes and fees and you too could have been a volunteer.

Despite Louisville Police Department regulations that requires all officers to wear and activate body cams, the involved officer didn't record the event. No reason given.

It seems to me he disregarded the police's directions. I don't think he meant to do harm, but he probably felt entitled to do as he wished. The biggest story for me is that he got out of jail, made it to the course in time to play, and shot 5 under!!!! Obviously the shocking reality seemed to have hit him the next day though .

That being said, even though the facts aren't all known, I'll pose this question for speculation:
Scottie Scheffler----master criminal or victim of an overly exuberant police officer?
Some Obvious Questions & Observations About the Officer's Actions & Motives:
1. What was a DETECTIVE doing directing traffic?
2. Why would a police officer "attach themselves" to a Vehicle and not release immediately if the vehicle moved or didn't stop? (Appears to be self-inflicted injury)
3. What does the officer's training advise them to do when a vehicle doesn't stop?
4. How clear was the Officer's instructions? Is the officer ARTICULATE or difficult to understand? What did they say? - it could have been confusing.
4. What other incidents involving unusual or erratic behavior has the injured officer been involved with?
5. What were the injured officer's motives? - Do they have financial issues and were looking for a way to "enrich themselves" by having a multi-millionaire be responsible for injuring them?
6. Was it really necessary for police to stop vehicles or could they have SERVED THE PUBLIC better by creating a detour that kept traffic moving while safely conducting their investigation?
Police have a lot of POWER, so with that Power comes RESPONSIBILITY to wield it fairly.

That’s like questioning if you stopped at an accident scene that just happened and you wanted to direct traffic around people that got hurt, how would you feel if people disregarded you and hit the people that got hurt?
Say the cops closed a highway down because of a fatality, but you had a golfer go around the barricade because he didn’t want to be late for his tee time? He was in a marked golf car so it should be fine!!!

Not going to answer all the questions posed but will say that it is not unusual......in what is clearly an international level event, to have ‘all hands on deck’ for it. So the detective, although usually non uniformed, would be for such a massive undertaking. Happens all the time at sporting, concert events across the country.
Given the chaotic scene, do you really think said officer knew he was ‘attaching’ himself to a ‘multi millionaire’ vehicle to ‘enrich’ himself? Really?
Did you not see one of the officers in Darlingtons video ask who they arrested? Again, this was a pre dawn, weather inclement, chaotic crime scene. As I said before, just as a Mon. AM quarterback....I believe there is enough....shared, blame to go around.

Come on we don’t know that. Did he attach a harness or was he just running along side the vehicle with hand on the door handle? It was chaotic with rain and it was dark with about the entire police force running around with all their lites on. In my opinion the PGA officials should have been out there directing the participants vehicles with cooperation of the police officers. The police officer should never grab a handle. He should have banged on the window with his flashlite which eventually he did.

On July 18, 1972, the Rolling Stones were on their way to Boston. Logan airport was fogged in, so they landed in Providence RI and proceeded to get into a semi-brawl at the airport.
They were arrested & booked for Assault & Battery on a Police Officer ... sounding familiar?
At the time, I was stuck at Boston Garden, listening to Stevie Wonder singing for about 3 hours.
Our cracker-jack Mayor Kevin White got on the phone and prevailed upon the Providence Police Department, to release the boys and send them by limo, to Boston. The boys showed up about midnight and played what's considered one of their best concerts ever.

It makes a difference and to think otherwise, is either naive or disengenous.
Fast forward 52 years.....May 30, 2024 Gillette Stadium, Foxboro MA. They're still THE SHOW!

He was not assigned to traffic control, so he was NOT doing his job...
Those assigned to traffic control told Scheffler (and other PGA personnel) to go around.
It's quite apparent that the Detective didn't get the memo...
Or he was dispatched to and working a vehicular crime scene where someone perished. He was there, working. Whether he was in the right or wrong...that'll get sorted out. What I'm sure he wasn't (as others speculated on here) was part of a SS 'enrichment' dive for $. Not everybody is a PGA/Scheffler fan boy! Some people just work events

I'll be there, for my 5th or 6th show ... including the famous Sir Morgan's Cove "secret show" in '81. I didn't actually see the show at Sir Morgan's, but I was there when the Winnebago pulled up í ½í¸‚

Most of what I remember from that night, came from other's recollections. We got lost somewhere in Paxton. We apparently stopped at a phone booth (remember those?), I called Directory Assistance and asked the operator to "trace this call and tell me where we are".
Like said, we did see the Winnebago, so we had that going for us. :1rotfl:

As reported, if one 'officer' waves him forward and one 'officer' tells him to stop, what is his correct action ? You are not # 1 in the world in golf. You do not have to be wary of golf fans everywhere.
