The benefits likely outweigh the risks, but I would be interested in @GolfingEagles or @JMintzer opinion.

Anyone have an opinion on flaxseed oil?
The Omega-3s in flaxseed oil (ALA) are not the same kind in fish oil (DHA & EPA).
ALA is difficult for your body to convert.

Still taking them not going to go by one study but would be interested in what they have to say.

Not sure if any of this new info is true.
But please speak to a doctor if due for surgery in the near future as I believe that fish oil may increase bleeding risk.

Flax oil contains lignans which is a phytoestrogen. So you may want to deep dive into some research to see how that might influence your health.

Fish oil might increase bleeding risk in surgery so for upcoming minor procedure was told to stop taking it 3 days before

Lots of conflicting info on this but it's always best to check with your surgeon and make sure it's on the chart if taking fish oil.

Fish oil & flaxseed oil.
Wow, I did not know that. I used to alternate between fish oil and flaxseed oil. My doctor knew that but never said anything. I recently stopped fish oil because they say mercury has been removed from the fish oil but you never know.
I just did a quick google search on “lignans and men", I got: “Several studies show that men who take lignans on a daily basis have a reduced incidence of prostate cancer. Some reports from men experiencing prostate swelling reported reduced swelling within just 30 days of taking lignans”

One study may or may not be meaningful. Vitamins seem to help me so will continue until better advise comes along

Most everything you need to know about epa/dha, omega3.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Fact Sheet for Health Professionals
Omega-3 Fatty Acids - Health Professional Fact Sheet (https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Omega3FattyAcids-HealthProfessional/)
The problem with fish oil supplements is that many are not tested and contain mercury. Also supplements in bottles can go rancid if not properly stored or maintained at the right temperature. This includes shipping. If you get that fishy taste when you take a supplement then it most likely has gone rancid.
Revealed: many common omega-3 fish oil supplements are ‘rancid’ | Fish oil | The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jan/17/revealed-many-common-omega-3-fish-oil-supplements-are-rancid#:~:text=Oxidation%20is%20a%20normal%20proce ss,often%20lacks%20appropriate%20preventive%20meas ures).
There are foods that can boost your omega 3 but conversion varies based on genetics.
The human body can only form carbon–carbon double bonds after the ninth carbon from the methyl end of a fatty acid [1]. Therefore, ALA and linoleic acid are considered essential fatty acids, meaning that they must be obtained from the diet [2]. ALA can be converted into EPA and then to DHA, but the conversion (which occurs primarily in the liver) is very limited, with reported rates of less than 15% [3]. Therefore, consuming EPA and DHA directly from foods and/or dietary supplements is the only practical way to increase levels of these fatty acids in the body.
That is why you should be tested every few years. Mine was very low. So following my doctors recommendation I started taking supplements.
I recommend Omax3 Natural Omega 3 Fish Oil Pills. It comes in blister packs and it is is processed through Super Critical Co2 Extraction. The source is wild caught fish, not man made ponds.Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005T4S432?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder_k0_1_4&=&crid=368PY95BL2SMT&=&sprefix=fish)Each batch is twice-tested for purity and concentration by independent laboratories.

Eat fish
The more fish you eat the higher the probability of mercury poisoning. Do your research on which types you will eat.

Wow I did not know that! I know that flax oil can help some women with hormonal balance but never did any research on how phytoestrogens can effect men's health.

Reminds me of when my well meaning mom would chase us kids around the house with a little tablespoon of cod liver oil for us to take. YUCK! lol... :loco:

This is the test I ordered from Quest: Fatty Acid Panel, Comprehensive (C8-C26), Serum
Quest Diagnostics: Test Directory (https://testdirectory.questdiagnostics.com/test/test-detail/17568/fatty-acid-panel-comprehensive-c8-c26-serum?cc=MASTER)
Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to your health.
Clinical Significance
Fatty Acid Panel, Comprehensive (C8-C26), Serum - Comprehensive Fatty Acids (C8-C26), to evaluate patients for certain mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation defects, peroxisomal defects, and/or a full nutritional assessment. It can also be used to monitor patients receiving a special diet and/or fatty acid supplementation.

Correct....DHA and EPA only.
Just Sardines and Mackerel...Why use supplements? Mackerel is milder than tuna or sardines and contains much more O3FA and far less likely to contain mercury.

To each his own.
It is cheaper to take supplements and there is no risk of consuming contaminants with the brand I use. Also I know the exact dosage I am getting. For health reasons, I try to minimize may animal protein intake.
