He was one of the all time greatest hoop players when healthy and a very interesting character. Friggin prostate cancer got him.

I went to a LOT of Grateful Dead shows in the late 80's / early 90's...I saw him in the crowd at quite a few shows--he really stood out!! Met him and shared a smoke of whacky tobacky with him a few times...he was always very approachable & friendly to everyone, seemed like a really good guy.
RIP you big red headed goofball--say hi to Jerry for me!

He was 71 years old. I didn't know that he had been battling cancer. Was a great basketball player, announcer, personality and overall guy. Very sorry to hear about his passing. He battled injuries throughout his career. Despite that, his performance was enough to get Hall of Fame credentials.

Bill took the Celtics to a Grateful Dead concert ... well, except for Danny Ainge, because his wife wouldn't let him go.

Listened to the audio book about the Celtics “Wish it Lasted Forever”, by Dan Shaughnessy, while making the long drive to the Villages last year. Lots of great stories about Bill Walton, including taking the team (without Ainge) to the Dead show at the Worcester Centrum and bringing the team backstage to meet the band.
