I went to buy 2 remotes for the garage door opener and guess what. No longer available. This is for the original openers that were installed when house built. The MVP ones. RO MAC says nothing available for them and all their inventory was turned in. If one need ANYTHING for these you have to buy a new system ,that is motor, controllers etc. Such a good deal eh!

Universal remotes (both car installed & stand alone) work with MVP units.

You are probably in the first step of the MVP unit failure. That is how my problem started with remote issues. Then our outside entry pad would not open the door even when we tried changing the code. Then our door stated to open and close on its own. We tried again to reprogram but to no success. The communication board in the control unit had failed.
It was time for a new system.

The visor button in my car operates the garage door.

I have heard people say that universal remotes will work, but have never seen one actually work, so be sure you can return whatever you buy. There are 5 pushbutton remotes for sale on this site, very reasonable so if that works for you great. There is also an entire motor unit for sale.
If none of these are of interest or work, I suggest replacing with Chamberline garage door opener, they have several models from basic to Wi-Fi, battery backup and belt drive. With care (and maybe some guidance) these are DIY projects, 2 person makes it much easier, and I have been able to reuse some of the existing mounting hardware which cuts down the installation time.

Chamberline openers work fine, but be aware that the company does not support home automation systems such as Alexa or Google home.
Another option is to add WIFI capability to your existing opener with a product like Nexx or other add-ons.

We have to lock our door so it doesn’t do strange things. Going to get a good quality belt drive unit at some point.

We have been told that universal remotes will not work with mvp.
I found one on ebay a week ago and bought it and due to arrive today. Hopefully will get what I wanted. As of last week the seller had a few left.
Look it up by part number.

Both of our car universal remotes work.
Very easy to program.

If the ORIGINAL opener no longer works with the original remotes, it may not be possible to program for "universal" remotes. There is a logic board in the opener (I have one as a spare) that contains the logic for programming the codes, but this still requires a MVP master station as there is NO programming button on the opener or this logic card.
OP, you could try reprogramming the unit with your remotes (make sure you have new batteries installed in the remotes), and see if this gets the garage door working. The instructions are available online. If you get a RED light on the remote, it should be working, and if the programming does not work, contact me and I can sell you my spare.

I just replaced my MVP openers with new Genie belt drives. The MVP openers and all associated hardware work great, I just wanted the quieter belt drives. If anyone is interested in the MVP openers, I will let you have them if you take "everything" (the rails, chains, openers, remotes, keypad, wall mounts, etc.).

I woke up the other morning to a voicemail from TV security patrol alerting me that my garage door was opened. I didn’t open it and nothing was missing. It was strange.

Go to Lowes, purchase a new belt driven unit (Chamberlain or Craftsman), pay for installation and enjoy a new quiet opener. We did just that after our wall keypad stopped working and saved hundreds. Installation was done by a local, reputable garage door company.

Look it up by part number. I ordered some that "Will work with all systems". Ha ha.
The MVP system is 288Hz. Can not find any that will cover that frequency. If I put in a new system you can bet there will be a lot of prior homework.

Happens more than you think, our old house you could open multiple neighbors doors with your remote. Most didn’t reprogram when they bought and about 15 houses could open up other neighborhood doors.
Probably couple houses down, opened their door, and it triggered your opener. It was very common in new villages for a long time.

Good luck on finding one. I have been to 6 different garage door co. Nobody has them. I even opened one up and got manufactures name and called them. They stopped making them 8 years ago. I told them that there are probably 30,000 MVP openers in the Villages and some body could make a lot of money by re-manufacturing them. …So off to Lowes and bought to Genie belt drive opener, came with remotes, wall buttons and outside key pads. $190 each. Put them in and they run super quiet. Way to go😎

One solution I have found that is inexpensive is to use a smart unit attached to the existing garage door opener like Meross. You can control the door with a smart phone and the best part you can setup to alert you when door is opened, closed or set alerts for when door is left open for a preset time (like an hour). The install is quite simple just hooking the wires in with the existing wires in the back of the opener and connecting to existing WiFi. No more anxiety about doors left open!

My experience; learning remotes in your car programmed properly to MVP Allstar unit, universal remotes did not work. It might depend on which MVP opener you have.

Not very often, took 2 months for the one I just received to show up.
Wonder if some company will go into business supplying parts for mvp systems. Over time the demand will be there

Just tried a universal remote to replace my old ones that don't work anymore (yes, I changed the batteries), and the whole set up seemed to work, right amount of blinking lights etc... but alas it wouldn't open or close the door. I'll try the Lowes option that has been suggested.

If you use Scott's Garage Door Service, they install the Chamberlin quiet DC system for a total of $500-550 total unit and labor. Have these units on both homes here that Scott installed. Great to deal with as we had a need for an adjustment on one of them and he was out to make the adjustment within the hour.

I bought a Chamberlain opener from Amazon, and installed it myself in a couple of hours. Amazon adds some extra features, like the keypad entry control and the wifi remote control. The new openers are much lighter than the old ones, and easier to install. I had to buy a piece of pre-drilled steel bar stock and hacksaw it into two pieces to extend the mounting brackets for the old MVP opener, otherwise everything was in the Amazon box. Instructions download to your tablet. Surprisingly easy. Much less trouble than trying to keep the old MVP in operation.

The MVP openers use a radio frequency that has been abandoned by industry for a long time, with good reason. Other devices can randomly operate your garage door, day and night. This happened to mine, and several neighbors’ doors. Reprogramming the codes helped, but not permanently.
