Is this place being built? I haven't heard anything recently about it and I can't find anything on the internet newer than a year-old report stating they were "to be built".
Any progress? Dead in the water?

Haven’t heard any recent news but driving east of Morse Blvd on 44 the other day I noticed a large clearing going north which could approach 44A. Possibility, but just a guess????

The web link is dead and they haven't replied to a message left on social media.

There is one under construction on 466.

This could be a cause for celebration in Lake Deaton. Hopefully the next set of Wildwood Commissioners doesn’t rubber stamp another wild idea like this one.

True. I'm aware of that one. It's very small compared to the scope of what was being proposed in Wildwood.
I suspect that it's dead. If this were actually going to be built, it would either be done by now or pretty darn close. It's been over a year since the approval was given.

Price per hour to play vs cost? Investors probably came back down to earth?:beer3:

Could be permit problem? or the investment funds dried up?

I have no real information, but it seems to me a place like that would do well in an area where most of the population has to pay somewhere to play. But in the heart of The Villages, where all of the residents of TV already have their pickleball paid for with amenity fees, they'd have to rely on the non-villagers to be willing to pay to play. I'm guessing someone realized that there isn't that big of a market.

I may be wrong, but I recall an article in the not to be named online source that the facility was under construction and due to be opened soon. If I come across the article I will try to post it.

Different facility, no off 44.
The large metal structure is visible from County Road 466 near the Hampton Inn and across from Laurel Manor Recreation Center.

From the rumors, this facility along hwy 44 was a farce/sham from the start. Many villagers invested a lot of money to get this large pickleball establishment built, and they lost all their money.

Yes, it’s going in, quite a ways back from the road. I saw it last Saturday. The outer shell is up.

I would love to have an option like this in the heat of summer… Their web site doesn’t mention the Village’s location: JOIN - The Pickleball Club (https://www.thepickleballclub.us/join/)
Also some of the links are dead. Not a promising sign…
According to Villages News, it’s still under construction as of April, 2024: https://www.**************.com/2024/04/25/floridas-largest-indoor-pickleball-facility-halfway-to-completion-in-the-villages/

No, this was a mega developer out of Miami MGE Holdings. The LLC is much larger than The Villages and doesn’t need funding. Total net worth is about a half trillion in real estate and liquidity.
I don’t think they were out to scam Villagers.

The sign on 44 announcing the courts with the website address was replaced with a for sale sign several months ago. The whole lot including the plumbed out East side, was cleaned out, weeds cut etc. at the same time.

OK. Comments are about two separate and different facilities. But, since people don't read the comments before making one, I guess this comment won't help.

Read the original post. The OP asked about the outdoor courts between 44 and 44A. The Pickleball Club is on 466 by the Hampton Inn. RIF

The one on 44 has a for sale sign out front. I'm guessing there's no pickleball going in there.

It is possible that the whole concept of pickleball could become a passing fad. Each generation seems to want to try something new. Remember how many racketball courts were being built 20 years ago. Now, not so much. The next fad sport could be E-bike soccer or jogger golf.

Is it possible? Of course it's possible. So what?

Racketball was nowhere near as popular as pickleball, not even close. Pickleball has been popular for a while now and actually isn't all that new. My good friend in Indy has been playing for over 8 years, and it's very popular there too. My wife plays, I don't.
But the reasons I think it's so popular and will remain so is that anyone can play regardless of skill level and fitness and still have fun, you don't have to move as much as tennis, plus it's a very social sport, so that gives it an edge over other sports. Also, the fact that it's caught on with all ages now is a good sign that it's going to be around.
Imo, it will continue to grow.

The one off CR466 is indoor, but if I remember correctly, the one off CR44A was only going to be covered. Along, with other housing, etc. There was an article in the Sun the other day about rezoning some property in that general area?
