Planning a few weeks rental this summer. Anyone have any preference for one of the common short term rental websites?
Searching the forum, I often see VillagersHomes4Rent mentioned, but I also saw some very negative posts about them from about 12 years ago.
Thanks for any insights.

My wife and I used VillagersHomes4Rent for over 20 years without any problems.
Best site for rental in our opinion.

I’ve used airbnb in TV twice and in various cities over the world and have never had any issues. I’ve never used rent from a villager but I imagine both are fine. It’s more about the house/landlord than the site they list on so just make sure they have great reviews.

Village Valet is a management service that represents over 50 properties. Most are on AirB&B, but you can also deal directly with Village Valet and avoid some of the high add-on fees. Call Teresa at 352-469-1446, or check this out. Village Valet (https://villagevalet.net/)
No, I don't work for them, but good guess.

Most likely those who had negative comments from 12 years ago should just be ignored. Within a year sure.

As owners we used VH4R from 2010-2022. Our tenants were repeat for multiple years, until they purchased, or passed.

The first year we used an agency, who allowed a tenant short term, that complained about 17 item unavailable in the house for 5 day stay.

The agent owner, went to address all the issues, and found the renter loading his suv, removing everything from pictures on the walls, all the linens, towels, small appliances, lamps and list goes on. Everything he complained about that wasn’t available, was loaded in the car. That was the only complaint we ever had.

We have Airbnb next to us I wonder if the owners would want one next to the house that they currently live in. Running what amounts to a hotel in a residential neighborhood. The owners of Airbnb don't care about the neighbors only making money. I don't think too many villagers think highly of Airbnb in the neighborhoods.

Also RentFromAVillager. I think these two are the best to use. Unless you are trying to find a few days around the holidays for unexpected relatives. Then AirBnB is much easier. For a week or more, I have found the two local sites above to be the best.

www.rentfromavillager.com (https://www.rentfromavillager.com)

All homes are owner-managed, which means Rent From A Villager connects you directly with local homeowners. It is regional website which every home on the site is located in The Villages, Florida.

Agent called Leo driving up seeing him loading car. Parking across drive blocking car.

Renter told Leo he brought all the items with him. Agent pulled out file of pics I took of each and everything in the house, documented right down to teaspoons.

Since our contract was specifically for long term rental, agent chose to rent without permission. Everything was returned or replaced, by agent/owner. We fired them, managed our own property, with the best home watch ever.

Agent filed report, under their business, no idea what happened

Villagershomes4rent is an excellent site. The largest and most reputable in TV and the oldest. Have used it as a Landlord for 10 years and it is wonderful

We rent out our house when we are not here on ****.
Never had any problems and after 8 years still have 5 star rating.
Only ever had minor issues with renters.
We use them because they hold the money, so renters no they cannot be conned.

When coming for vacation, I used Down Home Properties. If there is a question or issue, it is addressed by Down Home Properties right away. One day, the battery in the smoke alarm needed replacing -- as you know it chirps until the battery is changed. They sent someone right away to check the smoke alarm and change the batteries.

Also, the place was always spotless upon arrival.

****/AIRBNB charge both owner and renter fees. I don't believe (could be wrong) that they verify ownership. Rent from a villager is a 1 time fee to the owner (can't tell from post if you are looking to rent, or to rent out your house). They do verify you are the owner. I had plenty of traffic from them. Highly recommended!

Rentals should be a month minimum not weekend ever and all potential renters have to be thoroughly vetted.

As a neighbor to an Airbnb one can understand your dislike of a hotel next door. However the question was as a short term renter what is the best agency to lease from. I believe Airbnb is an excellent choice. Both the owner and renter are vetted. Identity such as a passport is required to join for either side. Recommendations for both parties is highly visible. Payment can be made with credit card and even pay pal given added protection if a problem exists. Many rentals have 100% payback if cancellation occurs up to 24 hrs in advanced. Airbnb also has standard extensive amenity checklist identifying what is available in the rental unit. They do have this down to a science.

(can't tell from post if you are looking to rent, or to rent out your house).

Thank you so much: I always try to make my posts clear, but you're spot on. I was ambiguous. To clarify: I will be renting a place in TV this summer, oops, that's still not clear. I am going to use one of those sites to procure a place to stay for a few weeks in July. Ooh, that verb "rent" is pesky. It has two nearly opposite meanings.

So you are going to be a tenant, not a landlord?
