We keep getting calls offering free energy audit. Anyone know anything about this offer?

I don't know much about these calls other than they have called us every single day for the past month. Sometimes two and three times a day. I listened to their message and then it said to press "5" if we wanted to be removed (which we have done numerous times). I finally turned them in to the national no call list. I don't know what else to do, but it is driving us crazy!! If anyone knows of some other recourse please let us know. Thanks

Press 1. You will get a real person. Tell them to remove you from their list. This worked for me.

This is a scam as reported on WVEC and Daily Sun.

press 1 and then keep them on the line as long as possible. I ask them really off the wall questions that have nothing to do with what they are trying to do.
I was on the line for almost 10 minutes and asked them if they would like to buy a duck and what size socks they had on........they hung up and I have not been bothered for a couple weeks now.:a040:

I too have used the Darrell trick and they hang up on me quicker than I would hang up on them!!! I did have someone come in just to see what it was all about - received a letter that time. Lo and behold it was none other than our old friend Pat the Plumber.
!!! I burst out laughing when I asked who he was affiliated with and he told me who he was. It was a fun meeting with me discussing the ToTV thread and he showing me the email which had allegedly exonerated him. Regardless of who is behind it, it is a royal scam.

This is a summary of our own experience after such a call. This happened shortly before the SECO alert. My wife set up an appointment for an audit after answering a caller using SECO in a pitch about a free energy audit. The supposed rep came at the appointed time. He was John- no last name, no ID, no card, etc. When asked about being from SECO, he seemed surprised and somewhat amused, saying that he was not representing SECO, but heard that a lot of folks assumed he was. He said SECO would do audits, but nothing like he could do, as he could also offer solutions.

He conducted a perfunctory audit, and then began an an elaborate spiel about global energy consumption, energy costs, evel energy providers, etc., etc. As my alarm had already kicked in, I interrupted to ask who he represented, why was SECO used in the calling, what was his objective, etc. He said the calls where made by a marketing group and his associates did not control that process, but simply purchased qualified leads. My wife told him what the caller told her, and he denied any culpability. He still had not told us what companies he worked for. I told him pointedly that he was there under false pretensions and misrepresentations. That did not deter him in his elaborate presentation, which he promised would show how we could get great energy savings- free- by installing an attic barrier, more insulation and some super a/c coolant. He was very adept in ignoring or defusing objections along the way. Finally, his free offer would mean we would pay some $6,000 for the products/installation and would be free because the monthly SECO bill would be reduced enough to make the monthly payments on a 4 year loan from GE financial. Although my wife was quite convinced, I finally got thru to him that there would not be a sale, that methods used were unethical, unprofessional, short on integrity, and got him out of the house. Only later when the SECO alert become public did my wife concede that maybe my stubbornness and rude questioning/accusations was for the best! She hates conflict and thinks I should always be nice. Fortunately our 46 yr marriage has survived in spite of my ornery-ness.

Don't give these bums the time of day, and don't let them into your home unless you have a mean attack dog you can sic on them!
