Never liked it. The whole family seemed weird and unreal. Kind of "Stepfordy". Creepy! The Addams Family was more understandable and way less creepy.

Back in the day, I had a REAL “thing” for Mary Tyler Moore. I watch reruns of the Dick Van Dyke show… and still get tingles. She was such a gorgeous talented lady.

I remember watching a story about the actor that played Eddie Haskell who eventually became a police officer after the show. He pulled over a drug driver. The drunk driver was abusive until he saw it with the Eddy Haskell’s actor. The driver laft & put out his wrists and said arrest me. He said now he will tell all his friends that he was arrested by Eddie Haskelll.

In June of 1961 after my freshman year in college I met a girl who had just graduated high school who looked like a clone of MTM. I met her before the Dick Van Dyke show first aired in October of that year and had never seen MTM. We dated exclusively for a year.
I remember the TV shows for children in the 1950s and the reruns of old Western movies at that time. Tom Mix, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers but never wanted to rewatch any of them.
My now 55 year old son loved Leave it to Beaver and enjoys watching reruns of that show. .
Reruns of Three's Company, Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends, The Bob Newhart Show, and even Happy Days are some old sitcoms I have watched.

I did not know that so I looked up his bio. He was falsely believed to have died in Vietnam similar as Jerry Mathers rumored to have died in the Vietnam war. Jerry Mathees stated that Ken Osmond was the best actor in the show because he was completely different then the Eddie Haskell character.

Looking at these shows brings back nice memories, but also makes us aware of the fantasy world that was displayed to the public.
The majority of the population in this country were not living like the Cleavers or Father Knows Best, financially or morally.
The major issue every week on these shows was how Eddie Haskell would treat the Beaver or what dress Betty would be wearing to the dance.
I'm not putting down these shows, just highlighting TV was not portraying reality.
In those days TV was delivering what the people want their lives to be or were restricted by censorship.
I prefer some of the shows today that comes a bit closer to true life.

You've made me think about those old TV shows. It would be nice to take a trip down memory lane and watch some of them. Some of my favorites were The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (the TV show, but the movie is one of my all time favorite movies ever), Please Don't Eat the Daisies, The Brady Bunch, Marcus Welby MD, Mr. Ed, My Mother the Car.

Beaver was actually a biting satire of the classic sit-coms of the time. I mean Ward and June were hysterical while Eddy and Lumpy were fleshed out true to like characters. Vacuuming in a gown though takes the cake. I loved how the boys would say “Dad is going to kill us “ when Ward never even raised his voice. Years ahead of its time Beaver is an American classic

I grew up in in the old south end of Boston full of bad bars and taverns, illegal gambling spots . winos and crooks , we moved to the west end full of run down tenements with the smell of cabbage that I can still remember , the neighborhood was so bad ,it was completely torn down , we then moved to a project that was basically for younger guys a gladiator school for Irish street gangs ,that being said I wouldn’t trade a day of it for that living hell that family was going through everyday.

As a little, pale, white/blond haired boy in So Cal, I couldn't wait til I would be old enough to join The Mystic Knights of the Sea lodge. I loved Amos and Andy! I still occasionally watch it on TV (you tube).

It's simple comedy. Every show has a wholesome message too. Cute and funny. However, most of the messages the older shows deliver do not apply today. Some may even get you arrested. My grandkids eyes and mouths open wide in shock while watching. They understand most are a big NO NO in today's world.
Examples Today, you cannot give a fellow student a black eye because he is bullying your sister. You can't force an entire family with six kids into a station wagon with a dog hanging out the window and no one wearing seat belts. Women are not servants. They do not serve a man dinner and coffee the minute he comes home, bring his slippers and newspaper.

"Dinner and coffee when he comes home". Of course not! He gets a martini first! And puts his feet up while she runs her fingers thru his hair and nibbles on his ear. Dinner comes later. 😉

"Happy wife, happy life". Didn't a woman coin that phrase? I think her name was Lorena Bobbit, or something like that. Wasn't it a man who coined the phrase, "a woman's place is pregnant, barefoot, and in the kitchen?" Not certain of my facts, but I believe he was the first victim.
I stand by my previous post. If a man knows what's good for him...

Yeah! Don't remember his real name, but everyone calls him "Stumpy". You must be thinking about another man. The one I am referring to is from the James Bond Series - Pussy Galore's cousin, Willy Nomore.
He will be featured in the remake of Never Say Never, Again. I don't want to give away the plot but he meets a fierce woman and...
Let me just say, the title of the movie says it all.
Fun fact: This character was based on a real person.

Since you brought it up.....the West End is one of the most disgusting uses of eminent domain in US ‘urban renewal’ history. It’s what happens when a developer (Jerome Rappaport) cozies up to a powerful politician (in this case Mayor John Hynes). The rest is still case law in the US. But I digress.

I read this several years ago. The biography of Frank Bank, the actor who played Lumpy. I can't recommend the book (Frank is either the most successful man you will ever encounter, or the biggest braggart) but the sample on Amazn is definitely worthwhile.

lol! I remember an old Andrew Zimmern show where he was touring some kind of food-processing plant. He made the point that now and again you encounter people at these places that you never expect to see, "like Lorena Bobbitt over there", and pointed to a woman chopping sausage with a cleaver.

One thing that the show did leave us with is the psychological concept of the "Eddie Haskell personality". I'm sure we've all encountered a few of them.
