Under new management, Barnes & Noble corporate has encouraged its stores to sell local authors’ books. Taking advantage of this new policy, Writers League of The Villages has worked with the Lake Sumter store to display and sell its members books. B&N has expanded this effort, and now shows books by local authors who are not members of WLOV.
Just to the right as you walk into the Lake Sumter store, you will find three racks of local authors’ books. One is labeled “WLOV Authors,” and these books rotate every 3 months. The other, two racks are labeled "Local Authors," most of whom (if not all) are Villages residents. Go browse and you will find fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books. Many of them have won awards in state (Florida Writers Association’s Royal Palm Literary Awards) and national book contests (Chanticleer Book Awards, Eric Hoffer Book Awards).
Go browse, and you will probably see a book or two by someone you know. And, if you happen to buy one of the books, and like it, consider posting a review on Amazon. The publishing world should know that there are many talented writers in The Villages.
