Pat Sajak announced a year ago that he was leaving the Wheel of Fortune show, but he is still there. The other day, he gave a farewell speech and said goodbye. But, I tuned in to the show today, and he is still there. I have nothing against Pat Sajak, but, if you are leaving, PLEASE LEAVE !!!

All of the shows are recorded. How would you like to quit your job, announce it to everyone, but tell your boss that you are going to continue to work for another year or so? If I were the boss, I would tell you to clean out your desk immediately and move on.

Hmm. Sajak retired. That’s a fact. When the show returns after summer reruns he will not be there. Ryan Seacrest is the new host. But the syndicator is showing reruns of this past season. Period. Pat’s desk is cleared and he is moving on. Don’t quite understand the angst re Sajak.

Lighten up. No angst. This is not a serious thread. But, I do think that it demonstrates poor management to announce someone is retiring, but let them work for another year or longer. No one is irreplaceable. Why not replace him earlier?

Wow! Such important problems we have to deal with here in The Villages. How do we manage?

It's not an important problem. The thread topic is "talk of the television".

It's a fun little thing called a contract. He had multi-year contract that expired as of the 41st show of this season. He announced, last year, that he would be retiring as of the 41st show of this season. You may have missed that show, when he made the announcement, or maybe you've forgotten what he said when he made it.
But he spent the last year fulfilling his contractual obligations. And the network is happy with him, and he will be assisting Ryan Seacrest behind the scenes to get the next season rolling smoothly, as a co-producer for the upcoming year.

Will have to see how Ryan Seacrest does.
I would rather have Pat Sajak back at it. Or even Vanna White.

I understand contracts. But, to me, announcing retirement a year before he retires is a mistake. He should not have been allowed to do that. Also, making a heartwarming farewell speech on Friday, and then, on Monday, he shows up as the host of the show again is ridiculous. And, I don't think Ryan Seacrest needs his help. Just my opinion.

The show you saw on Monday was likely a re-run. Trust me he never stayed past his final year except to be a consultant. Vanna is still on the wheel with a nice raise. Vanna had a nice tribute to Sajak the next to Pat’s last show. My wife would rarely miss an episode of the wheel of fortune.

He was under a years long contract. He made the decision to retire, i.e. not renew his contract. Why would they replace him, still having to pay him for a year? Plus I’m guessing Ryan is making even more than Pat did.

When I retired, I had to train replacements for several months, be available for a few months more incase of any glitches. When I actually left, the only thing anyone probably noticed is that someone wasn't drinking as much coffee as usual. I was likely forgotten even before I was actually gone. 😁

Spot on - gone and forgotten. And never got the Rolex at the retirement party either.

LOL. That reminds me of a Jack Nickolson movie where he retired as an insurance guy and prepared a detailed description of everything he did. His replacement threw the whole thing in the garbage without even looking at it. I think that is typical of a new guy who replaces a retiree.

Allowed?
Ever think that it was it was a mutual decision?
It's something that is done all of the time...
And "re-runs" are not him "showing up to host the show again"...

Exactly
Someone pointed it out earlier, none of this stuff is live programming.....it’s taped...in the can as they say. This is how it’s done across the board....the networks launch everything in the fall. He’s been paid and they’re just finishing out the season whether it’s a recent taping or a few months old. It’s business. I have no emotional attachment to Pat Sajak but I’m pretty sure the reboot/reimagined product with Seacrest will look nothing like a Pat episode...except for an older Vanna.
Every time I see Wheel....I think of Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) in Rain Man. “Look at the studio filled with glamorous merchandise. Fabulous and exciting bonus prizes. Over $150,000 waiting to be won as we present our big bonanza of cash on Wheel of Fortune”!

So when he reported he was leaving…they said it was his last season not his last show. Of all things to worry about.
