Hi there-

Anyone have any updates as to when Costco will be starting construction?

Haven't seen or heard anything since Don Wiley mentioned it in his Video that they will be coming here.

Thanks-
Jeremy

If it's going to need Wildwood sewage treatment and it has not yet been approved it most likely won't be open until 2027.

I don’t know why they didn’t built down south who goes way up north…:blahblahblah: actually I wish they would have, going to be even more traffic nightmare on 466 and 301. Let’s get petition up and get it out of Or neighborhood. :a040:

I will be fine. Everyone thought the new Sprouts would be a traffic nightmare on Beuna Vista off 466. Also, there are no traffic issue along 441 by Sams or BJ's. No traffic issues by the new Home Depot by 466A. It will be fine.

You can keep tabs of it at this link below. Costco updates it about once a month or so, and it tells you the ones opening in the approximate next three months.

So that whole retail strip on 466, which is not in Wildwood, is connected to the Wildwood sewage system ?

Huh? Northbound 301 is already a nightmare for the mile approaching 466. And Powell (462/139) is awful as you approach the 466A intersection from either direction, which is poorly designed.

Everyone posts don’t move south of 44 there’s no retail…so glad all that traffic gets to stay north, and we just have to visit once a month. Especially with Costco that will be busy from open to close. Now is all they have to do is find something to put in the empty schools:girlneener:

Building will eventually stop when all properties are finally built out between the 6’s.

Hoping 44 corridor stays retail free for at least 10 more years. Don’t mind driving north 15 minutes to traffic chaos.

That mile approaching 466 is heavy only during rush hour……..

I don't mind any more traffic. I really like the idea of having a Costco so close to home. CAN'T WAIT! Prior to moving to The Villages, we have always had a Costco within a ten minute drive. I want that again.

Very disappointed that they did not consider a place further south. In this case, I see no reason to join them. I will just keep my Sam’s club membership since there is no advantage for travel.

Sprouts does maybe a 100th of the business Costco will do. The other stores mentioned are located on roads which are 3 lanes, with turn lanes. There is not room on 466 to add additional lanes. The Costco location will not have a direct entrance to 466. How will all the trucks get to the store? The stock doesn’t magically appear. If the two streets leading back to the Costco location are redesigned to become entrances you can kiss your golf cart access on Wedgewood Lane, and probably Woodridge Drive, good bye!

I am part of the small minority that thinks this is a very poor location for Costco. Remember, Costco will draw shoppers from other areas outside The Villages. It would be much better on 301 or even on Hwy 44 out by the I-75 interchange.

I am also surprised that Costco picked that location. I am sure they got a good deal but can see where traffic will be a nightmare

Likely the roads will be updated. There's planning to widen 466 to I75 and add an interchange there as part of the I75 widening that may have helped seal the deal.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District has approved the drainage plan and the use of the existing retention basin next to the old high school as the primary recipient of the stormwater runoff. Now thing move on with the county for permitting and approvals. I would venture to say that the designs and plans are complete and ready to go to contract as soon as the necessary permitting is in place. Timeline? Still anyone's guess.

It was rumored that the Developer had a plan several years ago to get an expansion of 466 and an exit to I75 from this part of The Villages. Maybe a Costco here in this location will seal the deal.

For what its worth, I have a friend that works at the Davie FL Costco and they have heard down there about The Villages Costco and some are just waiting to be able to transfer up to that one.

Costco knows EXACTLY where to position a unit, believe me they KNOW EXACTLY....LOL... and they figure out every detail down to the number of miles from their suppliers, not necessarily miles from your house. They know the exact population number of Ocala, The Villages, Leesburg, Summerfield, etc. etc. and they use concentric circles to pinpoint the apex of all this. Believe me, the chances of them deciding they "made a mistake" in their statistical formula, are really REALLY LOW. Best no plan on the location changing.

When we moved here in 2008 466 to I-75 and a new on/off interchange was something Gary Morse was pushing. Do not know what happened but it obviously fell apart.
But with the state now considering widening I-75 to SR200 in Ocala a 466/I-75 interchange might become realty.

That corridor will explode with retail. Walmart will get everything along with any concessions they want and then it’s off to the races. It will start in front of Villages grown and end at 301. Store after store after store!

It would be nice to see a little development in that area to take some stress off the northern areas, its awfully busy up there sometimes.

Agreed. With the population down south growing rapidly this was just a matter of time

Everyone was up in arms about the Sprouts location relative to a traffic nightmare. As we can see it never happened.

Could be because hardly anyone goes to Sprouts

I live south of 44. It will be 30-35 minutes to get to this new Costco. Right now, it's just about 30 minutes to the Clermont Costco. In other states, I read about people who have 4 Costcos within a 15 minute drive of their house. Maybe we will end up with another Costco somewhere along 441 or 27 in a few years.

They take forever!! Even for a swimming pool…added so much more time for completion!! Patience is needed! I’m excited for Costco to finally come to the Villages!!
