I am part time so not down there this week. My camera had Massey ring my bell this morning. He had some tool on a pole that I saw him holding over my plant bed.

We don’t have Massey for any service. We closed in September of last year so it’s close to the 1 year. I missed the doorbell ring or I’d have been able to speak to him.

Most likely trying to get you to buy their extended termite warranty.

Was Massey your initial termite company. They may be out to check the bate in your traps. If so then you need to call the office to either stop their service, or continue.

Have had Deans since 2010, and have never had any problems. This new build was with Massey, I called, sent email, stopped at their office with hand written letter to Stop all services and calls, at 10 months of services.

Week later an older man stopped by our house with paperwork for me to sign about the 5 year warranty. Its was 26 pages that he told me I didn’t need to read it was just our copy of warranty. Of course I refused letting him know we were canceling.

He then said “If you don’t sign these papers no other company will take you on as a termite customer”. I gave him copy of termination of services and told him to leave. They didn’t have a CC#.Week later service guy was checking our traps. Spoke with him and he left.

Deans started our service at our one year mark, with zero issues. I will say I do miss my tech Janeen, of 14 years, but just need to break in the new guy.

Massey can be a pain when canceling

He was going around the entire house. Then he was kicking the grass with his heel. I forget if there are termite traps there or something. But it seemed if there are traps he was trying to move the grass off of them.

I have Massey for pest control. Every three months the service guy sweeps the outside of the house with a brush on a pole to remove hornet nests, cobwebs, and other evidence of pests particularly under the eaves. He also applies a granular barrier around the perimeter of the house.
That sounds like what you saw and likely went to the wrong address!

He had a pole but he was waving it around the ground as if it was detecting something. Didn't see him do anything on the eaves (I have Fertigator do that). He also rang my bell, which isn't something I expect from companies I've hired.

He’s detecting the location of the termite bait stations.

I emailed Massey. They were doing the 1 year termite bait inspection and sent me the report.

A Massey rep came to our house as well and rang the bell. Since I’m still working I didn’t answer the door. He wandered around the exterior and then left in his truck.

I noticed the next day the one of the termite bait traps in the shrub bed was freshly uncovered.

I’m convinced he was there to inspect/sell their termite services.

Btw our house was built 11 months ago, but we didn’t buy it for several months after that.

You need to cancel your termite protection 30 days before the year is up. I urge you to do it today. Their service is $250 a year. Rip off.

He is probably there due to the prior owners having a pest control contract. The long pole is used to sweep away cobwebs, wasp nests, etc, There will be a statement on a hang tag on your front door saying what was done.

Do I have to formally cancel before the year is up for termite Protection.

How do they bill me without a credit card if I don't want it?

Just bought new and Builder said termite protection is really not needed

Just to reiterate what others have said, you do not loose any coverage if you switch companies for termites......you do not negate a bond.

I was glad to get rid of Massey....

Yes, this is how they check the termite traps. I have had Massey show up at my house by mistake as well as showing up at my daughter's house in error.

Yeah, I'm questioning this too. Can the folks that posted to cancel Massey let us know? We did not sign up with Massey and only have the 1 year that was included with our home sale.

I called Massey for quotes on lawn care when we bought. The guy that answered the phone was a total jerk. You'd think he didn't want any business. So I ruled them out. I would not sign up with them for anything. I'm also capable of watching my house for termites. I think a pre-cast concrete home risk is negligible, though I realize there are wood studs and other wood in the construction to be watching.

I have Massey for weed and pest control. They do ring the doorbell. I asked, “Why?” The service person said that they walk along the wall, windows etc. they wanted me to know they are there so I would not be startled by suddenly seeing a person outside my window.

I cancelled my Massey termite contract before my house was one year old. At the one year mark, a technician showed up at the door. I told him that I had cancelled. He said, "Well since I am here how about I just take a look around." Then I got a bill from Massey. They said that I have given verbal approval to extend the contract. It took a three phone calls but I got them to stop billing me.

So, when the termite man shows up, tell him that the contract is cancelled and, no, do not have a look around.

Maybe the previous owner had a yearly contract and didn't notify Massey to cancel. Or maybe the serviceman went to wrong address. The long pole they use is usually to knock down spider webs, etc under the eaves. Anyway that's my thought.
