I'm a first-time buyer. I have moderate loss.

I really like the Eargo 7, totally in the canal units.
But they are for mild to moderate loss people and I'm afraid I'm on the top-end of their capabilities.

How comfortable are the over-the-ear units??

The world is a lot noisier than you remember.
The sound will be different as it is being amplified.
The background noise that has been a problem for some time will not go away, but with modern hearing aids can be reduced, but not stopped altogether.
Bluetooth capability is brilliant, the hearing aids can be paired to cell, laptop, tv, etc. Conversation and programs are so much easier to follow with the device.
Use a good audiologist, not a hearing aid seller.
TOTV users will give you many recommendations, and Sam's seem to be a very popular choice.
Lastly, you get what you pay for with hearing aids.
There will be an initial WTH are these things, but when you get used to them, your life will be enhanced, as silence is a lonely place.

I agree totally. Strongly suggest you look into the service provided by the hearing aid seller. Need to repeat hearing tests annually and often the hearing aid will need some sort of service.

One word of caution, check the REVIEWS on the app for the hearing aids, the ones I have now, the app is so bad (IMHO) that I had to delete from my phone. The main reason was I kept missing appointments, etc. since I could NOT hear these through the hearing aids and there was no adjustment to fix this. A call to the help desk yielded "these are setup the same a HEADPHONES", well hearing aids are not headphones, and the requirements are different. After I checked the comments on the play store, I realized I bought the wrong hearing aids, too late to return....

No, these were through a hearing aid store that works with my insurance coverage, the hearing aid brand is SIGNA, and while the hearing aid is better than the previous model, I have lost that ability to customize settings due to the horrible APP for my android phone which I deleted. So I stand by my previous comments, check the APP reviews BEFORE you get the hearing aids.

If you are a Veteran, go to the VA clinic on the North End of The Villages. The VA will provide testing and 'top line' hearing aids at no cost to Veterans. You will set up annual checkups and they will replace them when needed (at no cost). Just an alternative if you qualify.

Yes, it looks like the 300's are the new replacement for my 200's, and the 500's are a smaller version with the same technology. The included app for the phone works great, and the hearing aids have been fantastic so far (a bit over a year now).

My audiologist let me wear the high end Beltone's for a week or so, and I loved them. The retail was $7,495, and she was offering $2,000 trade in on my old ones. I started reading reviews and found the Jabra's were highly rated. I sent them my latest audiogram and they programmed the hearing aids and sent them to me. After a month I had them push one more minor change to the settings and It's been great ever since. I saved nearly $6,000 over the Beltone and felt that the app was far better and the performance was equal.

I would have to look again, but yes, there are professional reviews out there that document this. I wouldn't have tried them otherwise. I'm an engineer and I research any big purchase fully. In addition to the reviews, I wore the Beltone's for a week on trial, and then got my Jabra's. For my hearing loss (which is very minor and only in the high frequency range), both hearing aids performed the same.

I do recall that GN makes hearing aids for both Jabra and Beltone, and for certain models the only difference is the outer case (and, of course, the price).

Buy the best hearing aid you can afford. Do NOT buy the cheapest you can find. You will not be happy. People always look for bargains in hearing aids. Big mistake. You want the best technology you can afford.

I have a pair of Sam's hearing aids now. The APP for my iphone is good. The price was around $250 for each hearing aid. The fellows there in the store are good to work with and will demonstrate "cleaning" the wax out when that happens. I've had much more expensive hearing aids which went bad & couldn't be fixed. SO, I'm happy with Sam's.

My wife and I have purchased hearing aids from Sam’s Club recently. Craig and Derry are consummate professionals. They take the necessary time to educate you on the care and use of the products they offer. They have also worked for other companies and can compare and contrast brands.

Our hearing loss is in the mild to moderate range and these over the ear aids are our first. Very comfortable and easy to get used to. Overall, great experience (both with product and personnel) at a reasonable price.

Personally I didn’t care for the ones that go into the ear canal, the Dr. & I thought they gave me a plugged up feeling. I have over the ear Hearing Aides, the only reason I don’t care for them is everyone knows you can’t hear very well. But at least I don’t have to keep saying, HUH!

You may want to consider shopping Costco. I purchased the Jabra Enhanced Pro and am happy with the hearing aids and app. According to Costco they handle three lines of hearing aids and only sell the top of the line product so there’s no good, better and best decisions to make. They also claim to sell 60,000 pairs of hearing aids per month. The cost last year was $1,600 - $1,700 range as I recall. I bought the over the ear type. Good luck.

My loss is mild/mid in the high tones. Great app.
