I need to get a pair of glasses made just for driving and do not need anything fancy....just 100% function.

Suggestions where to go in or around The Villages for least cost.

Zenni.com. You can buy 5 pairs for the price of one in a store.

Walmart is where many of us go. They work with your Medicare Advantage plans too.

I use Hindsight (Pinellas Plaza) for around 10 years, good prices, great service, I have a tricky prescription and they still usually have the glasses done the same day, occasionally the next day.

I don't understand your post. Zenni provides the dimensions, material, and weight for every pair of glasses they sell and they have a huge selection. They also group them in small, medium, and large. They even have an online app to see how the frame will fit your face. Most stores only offer a very limited selection of different size frames, and it is difficult to compare different models because they don't include all the dimensions. Most stores do not make custom frames anymore, so, if they don't have your size, you are out of luck. And, most of their styles only come in one size. You do need to provide Zenni with your prescription, including your pupil distance (PD).

That’s what my wife uses for her prescription sunglasses, good service and big savings.

I've used Goggles4u .com for 20 years, you can get glasses for $30 including single lenses, they also sell varifocals and transitions lenses for a bit more. The prescription is always spot on, I've taken them into optometrists and they've told me the prescription is correct. If you set up an account, don't buy right away, they'll send you offers every single day for things like 70% off everything or two for one offers.

Sorry was not complete. We had a problem measuring the pupil distance. Have to give it another try.

You can go to an optical store that has a special optical device and they will measure your pupil distance for free. I think Sam's Club has one. Your optometrist should also measure it as part of a routine exam. Then, I would verify it with a special ruler. Once you have it, it will most likely never change.

I got two pairs of glasses for $89 at Eyeglass World over by Miller's Ale House off of US 441/27. The price is just for the basics and also needed an eye exam. The place just opened.

There is an eye glass and eye exam provider in Colony Plaza that I went to a few years ago which gave me some good glasses but was a little more pricey.

Same - highly recommend Hindsight - they’ve made three pairs in a row perfectly for me.

Every eyeglass store that I have entered has always had multiple models in multiple sizes. This is the best way to find out how the frames are going to fit your head.

I lost a pair from Costco with progressive lenses. The Rx was faxed to Hindsight and they cut lenses the same day. Yea.

BTW, I then found my old glasses (and put my phone number inside case with a Sharpie marker) but love the new glasses from Hindsight too.

BJs wholesale, Kim and Debbie are wonderful. I don't think you need a membership. SAMS also is fair priced.

You don't need a BJs or Sam's membership to use their optical departments. Also, you don't need a Sam's membership to use the pharmacy. I think it is a state law.

from sam's national website my bold I was logged into my local Sam's account but cannot be certain that there is not a different rule for Florida, which is not a particularly consumer friendly state in having more protections than the Federal law requires. YMMV
:
Optical Services, Eyewear Prescriptions & Contacts

1. Sam's Club Membership is required to purchase optical products.

2. However, a membership is not required to see the doctor of optometry.

....
The information on pharmacy does say no membership required for Rx items

I've used Wal-Mart for years, though not for refractions. Those are done annually by my ophthalmologist: I just bring the prescription to Wal-Mart. Takes about a week (give or take) to get the glasses once you select the frames you want but I've never gotten a bad pair there. Price is about half that of the optical shop where I see the ophthalmologist (Ocala Eye at Laurel Manor) and I don't have to make an appointment at Wal-Mart like I would at Ocala Eye if I need things adjusted.

I high recommend checking out Zenni.com. The prices are great, big selection of frames. You can even upload a picture of yourself and virtually try on frames. Just enter/upload your prescription.

I just bought a pair of transitions/progressive lens and they came with magnetic clip on sunglasses. And I also bought progressive polarized sunglasses as well.

Total cost was under $200. I did catch a sale this time. Without the sale it still would under $300 for both pairs. I received them in just over a week.
Good luck.

Costco. They don’t take insurance but you can submit on your own. Prices better than anywhere we checked even using our insurance. Quality very good!

I had an excellent experience at WalMart (on 466). Optical staff is salaried. No effort to "upsell". They are polite and take their time. I noticed how patient they were when helping people who had difficulty hearing or needed better explanations of what was available.

The pupil distance is especially important (to me) and stopped me from ordering from Zenni. Hindsight has been a delight to work with - at Pinellas Plaza.

I used Goggles4U for the first time last month. Ordered prescription bifocal sunglasses. Happy with the glasses and price, about $45, but took just over a month to get them. Ordered on June 16 and got them on July 17.
For the price, I'll probably order another pair just in case so I'll have them if I need them, probably will.

Yes, I've noticed that they will leave the PD off your prescription at times so make sure you ask when you get your examination. Like someone else mentioned, this is highly unlikely to change once you have it.

The pupil distance is extremely easy to measure. Zenni.com offers at least 10 times the selection and about an 80 percent discount as compared to most retail stores.

Where do you go if you need them adjusted after arrival? I’ve never had a new pair of glasses fit perfectly at first. They usually need some kind of adjustment to raise them, or straighten them. This is my biggest concern with ordering online.

The only adjustments they can make is to bend them, which you can probably do yourself. Also, almost any optical store will adjust or even repair glasses regardless of where you bought them for no charge.

Zenni.com glasses are so inexpensive that you can buy 4 or 5 pairs for the cost of one pair in a store.
