Well, just received the remote job offer that will allow us to make the leap and move to TV. We’ll be heading down this weekend to do some serious house hunting (as opposed to the semi-serious house hunting I’ve been doing for the last 6 months).
You’re stuck with me now. I look forward to many years of making irreverent and/or pithy comments. Sometimes they may even be helpful, but no promises.

So it’s summer, easy to find reasonable monthly rentals. Rent different areas while hunting. Our first home 2007 in Caroline, 2010, Pennacamp, 2012 Fernandina, 2014 preowned in Duval. Finally built a home in Richmond that fit our needs in 2022. Yep we are the keep moving south and Happy that we did.

I dont know if I would rent in different areas but sure would travel around and talk to as many people as you can to get a better feel for the Villages.
We did rent for a month before buying but a few months would not have hurt.

Thanks Stu. My parents have lived down there since 2012, so we are pretty well acquainted with most areas. Plus I have immersed myself in The Villages real estate market for the last 6 months. My wife has her criteria and I’m too smart to not take each and every one into account. In short, I feel prepared for the moment.

It sounds as it you're thinking of buying a home. If so, you're fortunate since it's a buyers market and inventory is high. Prices have been reduced. If you can narrow down the area that interests you, you'll be ready for some serious looking. Good Luck and Welcome.

Welcome! I hope you find the Village and home of your dreams for retirement. It’s time to make lots and lots of friends and enjoy lots of things to do inside and outside this bubble. You may find it helpful to synch all your calendars, because a lot will end up going on and filling any voids. Enjoy

Welcome! As was previously mentioned - there are MANY of us remote workers. Also mentioned that living somewhere is different than visiting. Grocery, gas, amenities that YOU will use, age of neighbors can be an issue but we are in a ‘transitional’ village where many originals are selling to newbies.
Take your time and enjoy the search!

Mrs. EDJ is a remote worker. I would share two cautions:
1. As was mentioned above, make certain you have a fast and reliable internet connection;
2. Make certain this job is "permanently" remote. I mean, what if the employer starts to call all their remote workers back into the office? What if a "mandatory" event pops up where everyone, including remote workers, are expected back at HQ or wherever? Do they pay for all travel and time spent traveling? Is there a generous per diem? Is there a limit on how many days a year they can require you to be elsewhere?
Remote work was a hot China Flu trend, but does not appear to be the way of the world in the future. At least not entirely. If the employer opts to no longer offer you the remote option, what are your options? Is this just a golden parachute and you are near your exit stratagem anyhow?
Other than those cautions, congratulations!! I hope you enjoy your time here and it is everything you want it to be. This is a wonderful part of the world, and if you do not have a good time, you have only yourself to blame :)

Well, as of this past Tuesday there are now 22 pages of homes for sale south of 44 in The Villages newspaper pullout section. This where all the new homes are being built. But, you have to ask yourself, "why are there so many homes that are still basically new up for sale so soon?" Ask that question often and get the answer. I know the answer but you'll have to find out for yourself.

Congratulations, how exciting! I would have loved to be able to spend a few pre-retirement years enjoying TV, but my job would not work that way.
This must be a very exciting time for you. TV isn't perfect, it has its warts, but we love it. I wish you much happiness in your transition.
the place is so big now that there are some differences in what you'll find depending upon where you look. Take some time. Enjoy. Wherever you wind up, you'll meet a lot of enjoyable people.

Not really all that much heat but the humidity is brutal on old fat guys. Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix are all much hotter but I'd say they are all more comfortable because of less humidity.

I know several people with that same answer. All of them are on their second (one of them on their third) home south of 44 because of the profits that they make selling their two year old homes. They then buy in the newest village going up.

Hi Snakster, good job it’s not Snakestar!
I like “ Pithy” and witty, we would get along fine.
I’m English and own a very modern European style courtyard villa. You are in luck because it’s for sale!
There is absolutely nothing to do it is turn key ready (a bit like me)
If you prefer fun to renovating and painting this might be the house for you.
It’s a 2 bed 2 bath villa. Call me if you are interested on 336 337 5885.
Please don’t reply to this post as there is a glitch in TOTV site . Just call for a fun filled chat.

Unless one stays in an area, if it fits Their needs, not everyone else’s.
An example our house 15 minute walk to LSL was in our opinion too close to lots of cart/car traffic, as was our LS at Creekside Landing, yet many rave about the location.
Next house was 15 minutes to LSL, less busy, house’s behind us backed to non TV homes. We liked the area, but it was a starter house.
Farther south bought a home as investment property and a preowned off Odell. Odell was Convenient to go to many places. But it was also a very older neighborhood, that was hard to fit in with the original owners that were older than parents. Not a disrespect, but I moved out at 18, and never wanted to return to live with my parents. Plus we found our need to travel to SS was once a year, LSL about every 3 months. South of 44 every week. Good points above. Moving into the newest areas of TV gives you a fresh start with neighbors that too have recently moved in, so you'll have that in common right off the bat.
On the downside of the new area, is that it is quite remote. Your drive to shop, dine, bank, health care etc. will be a long jaunt. You probably will not see those services come in for a few years. Your golf cart ride will be much longer. I have some people in our golf group that use their car to golf as they don't like or want that long of a golf cart ride.
Living close to 466 or 466A you really have it all as far as the connivences and you'll become spoiled as a result.

We used to live 'between the sixes'. Now we live in the new area. We don't find it remote at all. Everything is still closer than things were in our previous city. We don't regret for a second moving south. Oh, I only use my golf cart for golf. Nothing wrong with traveling in a car, even in a 'golf cart community'.

As we get older driving will become more difficult I do believe so figure it is best to be closer to shopping and restaurants.
Especially since how long it took to bring things to Brownwood and 10 years later still building.
