I would imagine because the sign poster didn't want any feeding of wildlife, which is good for people, and even better for the wildlife.

During feeding, the fish could become distracted and thus become dinner for the alligators. Probably not something everyone should see.

People will toss popcorn, bread, and other things that are not part of a healthy natural diet for animals. It also easy for animals and can interfere with their natural hunting and feeding habits. Human feeding of wildlife is very bad for animals in the wild.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say "yes". I don't know what they actually consist of, but if you never feed or leave food for wildlife, you can be pretty sure you are not breaking the rules. Possible exceptions might be bird feeders and flower gardens for birds and butterflies. With destruction of habitat, some creatures will need help to survive. If you want to help, contact a nature conservation group for things you can do and things you should not do. Enjoy the wonderful wildlife around us ---- safely.

It’s a state law not to feed wildlife in Florida. They get dependent upon what you’re feeding them, and don’t eat out of their natural habitat, things like bugs or other critters that they should be eating so it disrupts the whole food chain. And if you do it for too long, they become dependent upon you, especially young animals, then they don’t know how to get food on their own.

We lived on a lake in Tampa and we fed the fish at the same time every day. What we found was that gators follow fish. Every day at the same time, a group of alligators would show up. Our HOA restricted feeding fish and other lake animals because it would also draw alligators to the area.

You see the same thing along the lakewalk at LSL. Kids in particular seem to enjoy feeding the fish, which also attracts turtles and birds to the area as well. It is pretty common to see a snout barely above water followed by two wide-spaced eyes, as this gator or that cruises on over to check things out.

Feeding bread to ducks and birds is terrible for them, they can't properly digest it, but yet everytime we go past Glenview someone is.

During our first visit, my wife was feeding bread crumbs to the smaller fish (Honest, we didn't see the sign at first) Anyway, the smaller fish were happy with thier treat when a huge bass came out from under the dock and ate one of them. I said to my wife, " Well, you sure ruined that little guy's day!"

The majority of the time that I observe the feedings, it's generally visiting kids being encouraged by their parents and or grandparents.

My mother kept a bowl of peanuts, unsalted, in the shell, on the kitchen table. We had a widow with no screen. Her "pet" was a Bluejays that would fly in and have a peant while she had her coffee. She named him Brat because of the sound of his voice. She enjoyed the visits for several years.

At first I thought you were about to tell of the old lady who kept a similar bowl on her coffee table, but with no shells. The traveling salesman who was enjoying them was appreciative until she explained that she'd always loved peanut M&Ms, but her dentures no longer fit.

You will be glad to hear that I just did a spit-take and had CocaCola on everything and even out of my nose. Thank you for this hilarious, if uncomfortable experience.
