Finally succumbed to the temptation. Went to Donut King in Leesburg. Unbelievable selection of fresh huge donuts. Photo shows the rear rack of donuts and cases of fancy treats. Bought 6 donuts for $8.99. Superb and so yummy.
So much better than yada Dunkin’. The Leesburg store is on Rt 27 just north of Rt 44.
I asked the clerk if they will sell all before closing. He said No. then asked if they give them to shelters etc. He said they did until someone “got sick” and they had to stop. So they either take them home or toss them.

So wish they would replace any premade frozen DD donut shops, with a Donut King.
We just buy dozen regular box at Donut King. But if kids come they all have mom and pop donut shops, and bring 2 dozen with them. The oldest stops at Duck Donuts, that are made when you order.

I agree - Dunkin rates a fat “F” by comparison - small and not freshly made within hours. (Most made off site days earlier in some factory).
Donut King is my go-to for donuts - Large, fresh, fluffy, full of flavor - I too am sorta glad it’s not inside the bubble, as I would have a hard time resisting it, and would easily be there first thing every morning. Dunkin’ is easy to resist, since the donuts are some of the worst, but they have decent coffee.

We have never gone there but several clubs will have them with dinners and for sure they are the best.
If they ever cam to the bubble DD would be out of business quickly

Agreed, many many years ago Dunkin was a decent place but nowadays yuck. Also some of the morning staff at Brownwood are rude and very unappreciative. When ever the donut craving hits, it’s always a trip to the King!

Frozen donut made 6 months ago then thawed out. Tough, weird texture, dry, greasy to the touch, break open No crumble.

I remember 25 years ago - Dunkin made all their donuts fresh on their premises from scratch throughout the day - I would show up like 6PM and ask what was freshly made, and inevitably they would have several varieties that just came out of the fryer within the last few hours. Their downturn for me was when they expanded their menu offerings, and no longer became a “donut only” destination.
And I agree about the morning crew at the Brownwood location - when I stop in there for coffee my goal is try and make the counter ladies smile and say “hello” and “thank you” to me when they give me my coffee - sometimes I’m successful, but most of time it’s difficult to get them to exchange pleasantries or smile.

Growing up our KK had the HOT sign about every two hours. Stop at KK every Disney trip, any leftovers is doomed for KK donut/ breadpudding. I love their coffee in my special cup.
Our store was around the corner from our 135 acres of farm, gave a reason to ride the fence line. Tie up, climb the fence and buy a donut, then 3 more for the ride back. All evidence was gone miles before return. Rest of the fence never got checked.
I really don’t understand the draw when mostly men sit outside sucking down as much DD free coffee refills as they can acquire. It’s just coffee, but for many “FREE” is like an addiction.

Donut King is the absolute best I've had. When we go to our son's home in Longwood, he has a standing order for 3 Boston creams, 3 cronuts, and an apple and blueberry fritter. The cronut is without a doubt the best doughnut I've ever had, and everyone I know that I've given them to are hooked. It's a cross between a croissant and a donut. The bear claws don't suck either

My wife and I have friends who come to the US twice a year from Germany. Once upon a time, we took them to the Donut King in Minneola for dessert after lunch and they absolutely loved the place. So every time they come over from Germany, we greet them with a dozen of their favorites from the Donut King. So now it can be said that Donut King now has an international reputation That's not bad for a local donut shop.

Krispy Kreme’s are good if you eat them within 10 minutes of them coming out of the fryer. After that they’re as nasty as cold McDonalds french fries.

They belong together-lol. My wife had a knee replacement last year and was getting cabin fever. We hadn't been to McDonalds in about 4 years but for some reason she got a craving for a Big Mac. So off we went to the new McD's at Magnolia Plaza. Two combo meals were about $20. I told her for that much money I'd rather just buy a couple decent steaks and cook for ourselves.

Pricing at McDonalds has gotten out of hand. Not about to spend that much there when we can get a better burger for a little more

Not really posters are giving viewpoint there is definitely a better doughnut then eating the frozen/thawed donuts from DD.
Pizza is an entirely different food mostly a regional thing. Donuts are like any bakery item, one always looks for the best.
It’s always nice to hear experiences of the business they found, doesn’t mean you are not a fan, or love it, but at least there are options to try outside of the bubble. I don’t expect to find a family owned for 60 years donut place, that we grew up with, but a poster may happen on that establishment.
One can only hope. In the mean time, our kids bring a dozen at every visit, bad thing it’s only 6 times a year.

Nice try but Donut King is just pure EVIL.
I heard (of all people our Pastor) talking about DK. We live in Ocoee. I have *maybe* 2-3 donuts per year. No sweet tooth--I would prefer a cheeseburger. Went to Toyota in Clermont for maintenance and decided to "swing by" Donut. King in Clermont.
I purchased a 6-pack. I ate three of them on the way home.
DK is to Krispy Kreme as Krispy Kreme is to Dunkin. (And I grew up in Boston where Dunkin' is king)
I love seeing local places that have a great (fantastic) product..
(My 34-yoa son asks me to drive to DK every trip--it is over an hour round-trip. I am still not sure that is a testament to how much I love my only son--or how much we love DK).

So we took your advice, and stopped at Dip-A-Dee donuts Sunday @11:30. First there was very little to choose from, so warning get there early is key.
We bought traditional glazed, twist, cinnamon roll, chocolate and vanilla cake donuts. All had right amount of glaze, light and fluffy, cake donuts consistency was light and had zero heavy grease taste.
The shining star was the fritter. Which we have a personal favorite type for fritters. It’s all about the outside edges with the crisp, yet fluffy fritter with small dice fruit.
This entire fritter was like eating outside edge, crisp and light for the whole donut.
Owner is very nice. So go small business. Thank you, for this find. Sadly and happily we ate 9 of the dozen in a day.

Based on this thread, we stopped at Donut King the other evening and bought a dozen. Holy cow! Those were great donuts. Big and plump. Not heavy and cakey but rather light and tasty.
Takes me back to the glory days of Dunkin Donuts when each location baked their own daily.
Will have to try the other shop mentioned on 441. They sound good too.
And Krispy Kreme? Yeah, they’re not worthy of being in the same discussion. But they are okay in a pinch.

You were right on the mark. We tried dipadee this morning and the donuts are good, very good, maybe the best I've had.
The price is a different story... We got 2 breakfast sandwiches 5.99 each, 2 filled donuts 1.99, each and 1 coffee 3.19. the total was 23.00. I'm not sure what the tax rate is it if there's a built in tip but that price seems suspect.
We will certainly go back next time we need a donut but we will stop at a donut and watch the tally.
Great donuts, average coffee, fair breakfast croissants, strange maths.
