I bought my 2023 EFI Gas Drive 2 used
The guy I bought it from had the Gov Zip tied wide open
I cut that off to adjust the nut but seems to get 22-23 I have the nut turned in all the way essentially where it was with the zip tie

I wanted to see if I could get more torque for hills with the Gov functioning which I did not

? is does turning that nut in eventually do nothing after a certain point?

Going past the threads will yield very little. If you tighten the nut to the end of the threads, you should get 25-26 mph. However, if you tighten that far, I wouldn't run the cart at full throttle too often, as you significantly increase the probability of causing long term damage. For more torque, you will need to change the spring in the secondary clutch.

Interesting post on torque, I wasn’t aware that was an option, thanks. Recently I was golfing on a very hilly course up north and the cart I was using was a beat up older model Yamaha EFI that had better climbing power than any cart I have ever driven. I flipped up the seat and the first thing I noticed was that everything was filthy except for a brand new shiny primary and secondary clutch and drive belt.

I am definitely going to look into replacing the secondary clutch springs in both our Yamaha’s.

Basically previous owner jacked governor out so glorified lawn mower engine revs as fast as engine can take air. IMO he was not too bright leaving zip tie in place. First thing I would have done pull the dip stick and check oil, If low I would have passed. Being it’s not that old maybe no damage been done. Once I noticed the zip tie it would have to be awful good deal for me to buy it.

Yes. There is a limit to the horsepower and torque your engine can deliver. There isn't an 'extra' bit of power beyond what the governor offers.

Gas carts are not known for high torque. If it is great response from a stop you're looking for, then an electric cart is your best option. I have gas carts, and I love them for these flatlands we live on. Recently I was on a very hilly course out of state. This course had electric Icon brand carts. They had amazing torque from a dead stop on a hill.

Electric carts that use a/c motors have great torque and can accelerate going up a hill. Older ones that use d/c motors do not. The d/c ParCar I used to drive would lose speed like a gas cart going up a hill.

Sorry I did not read all your replies... BUT I did want to mention was carful not to except your engines RPM rating. a Cheap one wire induction rpm & using the internet to find your engines max "safe limit" amp, you can. dial in the governor for max speed. The "one wire induction rpm indicator wire wraps around your spark plug wire" & easy to install for put on & take off as needed.
Just my limited experience with governors.....So I could be full of $@#%.. But I dont think so..

You have maxed it, but going much faster invites a ticket. You might get a little more on a hill with the window down and the wind at your back. I think 22.5 on a level plain is as best as she goes on a stock Yamaha Drive 2 made after 2022.

They have my governor set to 19.8 or so. Almost every golf cart zips by me .

yep mine is now set to 22 and most Yamahas go by me also. Can't figure how.

Mine speedo is GPS and I also checked with Phone GPS and it is right on at 22

The older Yamaha’s have a different engine and will go faster, but the newer engines are quieter and more efficient.

Ill jump in here......the governor adjustment only gives you more speed.
Modification of the secondary clutch will give you more torque....however be aware the newer secondary clutches have a weak point and when stressed will go to failure and you will need a new clutch.

Is that going to stress out the secondary clutch or cause some other problems I wasn’t anticipating? FYI, I ordered the mid tourque green colored spring from the Power Equipment Man.

You probably won’t like Kevlar belt either. I tried gates heavy duty belt and hard to get in and even harder to get off. Plus it had big delay starting out. I could imagine what it was going to do to clutch faces?

Chances are good it will. Take a look at the front of the secondary clutch....see if you have 4 rivets or 6rivets holding it on...the 6 one is better but still weak. Remember, you are only as strong as the weakest link.

Thanks for the info. What would you recommend as a quality replacement secondary clutch with a much stronger weakest link? Also, will the high torque spring stress out anything else beyond the secondary clutch? Thanks.
