Dunkin - bad marketing…

Went to Dunkin Donuts Brownwood after LabCorp bloodletting -fasting. When I do that I go to DD for coffee&donut.

Yesterday at 10:30 am this was on their front door. Heard sounds like scraping inside so assume they are remodeling.

One would think that they would have a sign such as, “we’re remodeling our store to make our loyal customers even happier. Please wait until xxxx when we will reopen!!!”.

I never was a big fan of Dunkin. Always thought their coffee and donuts were overpriced and over rated just like Starbucks. McDonalds coffee is cheaper and far better IMHO. You have other options other than donuts too. But to each his own..

Please… It is bad marketing. The sign NOT indicating WHY they are closed. If they did value their customers they would have explained this to us. IMO, leaves us wondering “why”. BTW while I was there for 2 minute’s wondering, three other potential customers stopped and asked WHY? So my post WAS nice. Heads-up to those on TOTV. I am assuming they are closed for renov. As I said nothing on the sign, just sounds I heard inside….

Reading your post reminded me of the post on FB this week regarding one of the Subway shops back home that the landlords lawyer posted an eviction notice on their door with the amount they owed in back rent (something like $10K) along with a get out of our space verbiage, etc. Nice black eye for a Subway franchise airing out the dirty laundry via the door posting.

They are closed for three weeks to remodel. Scooples is opening at 7 a.m. for the next three weeks while they are closed. Sign was terrible for sure. Those of us who are regulars knew well in advance of the closure.

Still very much is a great company. If we as a community judge a company's relevance by one person's "look at me" post then there would be no great companies, especially in TV.

Failing to communicate with your customers is bad marketing. I hate it when I call a business and the person who answers the phone doesn't tell me their name. It seems to happen a lot lately.

I go to a WaWa all the time. Much better pre-brewed coffee and many other drinks they can prepare. Their pastries are good and they have good pricing on everything.

I stopped going to Dunkin after having two back to back bad experiences at the Warm Springs location and dealing with "management" that was less than helpful. Better coffee, better service and definitely better donuts to be found in other places nearby.

Be happy they had a sign out front. When I went there for party donuts during normal business hours the door was locked, a guy was inside going shush and holding a finger over his mouth. He mouthed ‘ staff meeting today’. I stayed … until he opened the door. He told me no donuts.. staff meeting. I told he needed a sign out front so customers didn’t waste time waiting .. during business hours.

First off, Dunkin is a great company. Grew up with it and it is still headquartered south of Boston. I will say the donuts are not their first priority these days (thus why it’s been reimagined to Dunkin...from Dunkin Donuts). I remember when they were cooked on site instead of the central manufacturing facilities used today. If it’s even a possibility, for a franchisee, you need 250K in liquid assets and a net worth of 500K per store (depending on market). These are not mom and pop stores....they’re money makers.


That said and to the OP post....I’m guessing what you experienced was just bad communication or lack there of. Marketing has nothing to do with it.

“Marketing” Definition…

Marketing encompasses every part of a plan to turn a prospective consumer into a happy and satisfied customer. It includes everything from market research to advertising. The goal of marketing is to convince a person that your product is worth investing in, establish brand loyalty and increase overall sales.


This definition said, my experience, and others there- confused as I was - did not promote a positive experience or view of this particular DD location. What was so peculiar to me at that time was that this BW location does a great business, foibles and all. So one would assume a simple sign explaining why they are closed would have eliminated this entire TOTV posting.

The company dropped Doughnuts from their name, and went to just Dunkin’, because they wanted a more health conscious image and didn’t want to be associated with an extremely unhealthy product made out of white flour, fried in grease, and coated with sugar (a diabetic nightmare). Their profit margin is in coffee. We prefer to brew our own coffee, but if I were looking to buy a cup and had the option, I would choose Dunkin’ over Starbucks every time. Their hot french vanilla with cream, and no sugar, is delicious.
