I heard on the radio today Mira Mesa should be opening up soon but didn't state when. I suppose they back filled the sinkhole near the 3rd hole, the first par 4. Scary thing was the huge oak tree about 20 feet from it. It looked deep. Took 10 seconds for a rock to hit bottom. :shrug:

Yikes, one of our favorite Executives relatively close to our home but haven’t played there since mid July and wasn’t aware of the large sink hole. Ten seconds for a rock to hit bottom is very deep. Hopefully that’s not going to be a long term issue?

I couldn’t find any info about it online. Do you have any links?

Almost like a blackout.

10 seconds to hit bottom? That converts to 1600 ft deep. Where did you hear that one?

An object dropped will travel 4.9m or 16 feet in one second so wishfully thinking the whole may be 160 feet deep.

I think this is the formula and result

d = 1/2 * 9.8 * (10 seconds)^2
d = 1/2 * 9.8 * 100
d = 490 meter

490 meters is 1607.61 feets

Its been a long time since I used that so I could be mis-recalling.

Looks like your memory is good.

Now use S=4.9t2 put the time in this eqn and you will the depth s.

But of course, the rock was likely hitting lots of things on the way down, so...

Same formula, am I missing something?

Very likely a miscalculation on my part due to excitement. I only know when the rock went down it took a while to hit. I could only get so close to it using enough sense not to go past the ropes. I'm only curious how much concrete had to be used to back fill it. It's certain the villages didn't advertise it's there.

I'd be ok getting close to the edge of a funnel shaped hole that was stable. No way I'm going near a sink hole, there's no telling how much is going to break off or when. I say good job keeping your distance.

Dam straight on that, would never be reported in the Daily Fun. Since it wasn’t on a public road, it probably never got picked up by any other news outlets.

Oh yeah. No way to determine how far over is caved in. Where this one is if someone fell in no one would probably hear them yell for help. I hope no animals fell in.

Just like golfers getting bit by snakes in the out of bounds areas searching for their treasured Titlist balls. You never hear about them until an eyewitness has told so many people now every one knows! LOL:a20:

I drive through the Mira Mesa MMP every day on the way to the Rolling Acres driving range area, mornings and evenings, but never saw any sink hole issue or any work being done. The sprinklers were on for about 3 weeks since Debby all day long on and off on all the holes but didn't see any sink hole disturbance. And the drive to Rolling acres takes you through hole #5 on MMP on Mira Mesa then veers off to Palermo drive.

I'm sure it's been repaired by now. This was by the large oak tree near the green of the 3rd hole in the large sandy area off the cart path. There were only 4 cones and ribbon marking the area, no signage. I went by it before noticing it when i returned from the driving range. I'll know tomorrow when i hit some balls.

Me and our household, we proudly receive The Daily Sun.........DAILY. AND...we have for eighteen years now except when we are on vacation. And sink holes are not caused by who develops your area. They are caused by the geophysical strata of rocks and sediment in certain areas of Florida. The worst area is closer to Tampa, but we have them here too. Just sayin'.

Good morning friends.

Ok i did see a small 4 ft radius filled with water and coned off under the tree near the putting green just off the MMP. I thought it was due to some water leak in their pipes and controls there. May be it was a small sink hole.

That would have been a cool and safe way to check out the hole!

We played there Tuesday, there was never an indication that there was a problem there. Most people would never know there was a problem there.
