Paint color matching

Hi everyone, new owner here looking for some advice on touching up the existing walls in an Amarillo model from 2003. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what paint may have been used the houses in the Summer Hills section of the villages just looking to do some touchup found some paint from the previous owner, but it does not match, it’s a good match for the living room, but appears that the bedrooms and hallway are different color. After over 20 yrs, I think its time to repaint not touchup.

Check with Florida Paint. They should have all the original paint colors on file. But if any of the previous owners repainted you might be out of luck.

I will probably wind up getting a color reader just trying to tidy up a little bit. Thanks for your response.

I would say you’re absolutely right, but it looks like it’s been painted within the last few years. I’m sure this is not the original. I will probably wind up getting a color reader just trying to tidy up a little bit. Thanks for your response.
I have been a painter for 45 years, unless you have the same paint they used it will never match. You can get it matched at the paint store and it will still be off. If you don't want to do a full repaint you can always go corner to corner on the bad walls with the living room paint.

Take off a bit from an inconspicuous place (maybe 2" by 2") and take it to Wal-mart paint department. They can match it up almost perfectly. It won't matter how old and faded the paint is because the apparatus they use to match the paint goes on its appearance today. I did this a couple of times back home and got near-perfect results.

I'd talk to Wal-mart first though. Just because they did it in Minnesota doesn't mean that they'd automatically do it here.

I will add you will need to match the finish of the paint from flat to gloss, also Lowe's, ACE, and I believe Home Depot also have color matching capabilities. But I have seen exact color match look very different if the finish is not the same.

Exactly, HomeDepot by Old Vineyard Rd. matches paint very well. We had custom paint in every room - very elegant - by the previous owner. I didn’t want to change a thing! Husband cut out a small piece of the wall where it could not be seen, but he put it back later so well you could not tell, we took it to HomeDepo where they matched the color so well, I defy anyone to tell where we used the touch up!

I’ve repainted my whole house inside and outside, recorded all paint colors I used and saved labels. That way if I or new owner wants do some touch up knows the exact brand and color mixture used. Course the outside has set color in my district and village even those S and W paint higher I got the exact brand and color for outside so won’t be no problems with deed restrictions. Be advised anything do outside need read restrictions closely.

Please don't go to Wal-Mart for paint. Home Depot Behr Paint and Primer is all I ever use. It's the top-rated paint every year.

call the warranty department. They have ALL the information about your house when it was built. They can give you the color of paint used

Try taking a photo of the wall with your phone. If the picture is good enough you could try to match it from the picture.

Take a 1 inch square to Home Depot or Lowes, they can color match perfectly with their scanner. I did this for exterior trim paint and was perfect.

For small scuff marks, a slightly damp magic eraser can take care of it.

You can use a knife to cut a small piece of drywall out and bring the sample to ace hardware and the can usually match the color. Then just fill in the sample spot with some spackle, sand it smooth, and paint over it.

Try taking a photo of the wall with your phone. If the picture is good enough you could try to match it from the picture.

I don’t agree. I take photos of nature to paint from, but they are never accurate colors on any camera or phone I have. They are blued, cooled down or warmed up but never the correct color. That is why after drawing the outlines from photos I go back to the scene during the same time period for the same light - to get the accurate colors.

I personally find Behr paint to be extremely high VOC, its paint fumes last a long time. After MUCH painting in my life, I love Lowes' Valspar 2000. Good paint with no lingering smell. But I don't know if they do color match.
