Bulb replacement in under cabinet lighting

Are you sure yours are actual bulbs? Ours are those strand lights. We have a plug-in for ours so we can change the strands ourselves (we did a couple of years back) but if yours are hard-wired in might want to call an electrician.

You have never changed a light bulb? (just kidding) Are these removable fluorescent bulbs? If so, just twist it and pull it out. You may need to remove the plastic lens first. Go to Home Depot and get a replacement.

There are several versions of under cabinet lights. Put your hand near (do not touch) the lamp or a similar one, if it appears to be hot, this is an incandescent or Halogen bulb, and yes, they can typically be replaced by the homeowner. Once again depending on the manufacturer you may need a screwdriver to get the cover plate off. NOTE: if this is a halogen DO NOT DOUCH THE BULB with your fingers, use a paper towel to install the new bulb.
As mentioned if you have strip LED lights I have seen the snap in connectors fail and the lights blink. You can easily test this by applying pressure to the snap connector, if the LEDs come on or stop blinking the connector is bad and needs to be replaced. I do this type of work, and I solder the bad connection. I have a whole box of unused snap connectors that I refuse to use because they tend to fail.

My go-to resource for home repairs is doing a Google search for the exact brand & type of item plus “VIDEO.” In your case you might search “Amax (an example of brand name) under cabinet lights flickering VIDEO” A search inside the YouTube App may give you similar results, or not. I watch a few of the videos to decide if it’s something I think I can tackle.

If not, when I call a handyman at least I know what he’s supposed to be doing.

Another good resource for diagnosing the problem can be the manufacturers’ website. They usually have the original product info, warranty info & replacement parts with pictures of them.

If possible, I order the proper parts from Amazon or buy them ahead of time of the handyman’s service at Home Depot (where they can be returned if unused) Otherwise you’ll also pay labor while your handyman shops to get the parts.

I’ve been amazed how many home issues require more time & patience than skills, if you have a knowledgeable YouTuber to guide you through. Good Luck!

Our house was built in 2019 and has the LED type under cabinet lighting. We had very noticeable flickering during the first year, so it was covered under warranty. The tech from Galaxy said it was the transformer. They are very cheaply made and fail all the time. He replaced that, and no issues since.
