For those who live north of 44..or north of 466a..or maybe north of 466….do you really care what is being built south of 44.
Are you tired of Don Wiley,s videos? Or those that just moved in south of 44 extolling that they now have found pardise?
Good for them..enjoy your new home and lifestyle.
But, peraonally, i dont care what is being built south of 44…many people north of 44 dont care what is being built a half hour or more drive from them.
Up north..did you care what was being built? Harldy
Enough already..no one cares anymore..TV is just becoming a sprawling suburb

Yes, I am very interested. Rt 44 is just a road, not an impenetrable barrier. There are two golf cart bridges over it. South of 44 is an easily accessible area with activities, rec centers, and businesses that I take advantage of.
Don't care about videos, not the way I learn about the new areas.
I'm looking forward to Middleton Downtown and all of Eastport.

Do I really care?
Of course I do. Aside from the fact that as Villagers we all share access to the same amenities, entertainment, golf, etc. etc., the fact remains that Villagers, once here, move two to three times (I've seen numbers as high as five) WITHIN The Villages. The fact that there may be certain things closer to where I live now, or a village with a different and more preferable vibe, or a style of house that is more attractive, concerns me because if (like most Villagers apparently) I DO move to another location in The Villages, I want to know that I share the same access even if another location in the South is more attractive to me.

We play golf once a month in or near SS. Meet great people, (2 WW guys) who have been here for many years. You know the story where do you live? Many know of LSL, but only went once, most have no idea where Havana is, or courses between the 6’s, and Brownwood can be “what’s that”
We rented in 2007 near LSL, buying first house in LSL. Each time we came to TV we were excited and in awe of new building, villages, and town squares. Fourth house and S of 44, we are still excited for all things that one can experience for many years to come.
My parents however still find the new build in TV very interesting, but in their late eighties, don’t venture out on their own without someone. So maybe age, or lack of ability to find new areas hamper them from seeking out new experiences in TV, or care that they really don’t have the ability to adventure too far from home.
As far as watching videos or podcasts, we do, as does our kids, and grands about all things new in TV. My parents not so much.

I absolutely still care. Just because it's on the other side of the road doesn't mean I should cease to care. It's still my community. When I lived in Connecticut, I cared about the town I lived in. And my town was a lot bigger than The Villages. I had a financial interest in its success, I had a vested interest in knowing if/where crimes are being committed. I had an interest in knowing what events and activities were available. I cared if a snowstorm had caused damage to roofs of fellow citizens. I had friends and co-workers who lived all around the town, so of course I cared if their neighborhood was flooded, or a fire had ripped through their garage, or if the electricity was out where we worked on the other side of town.
Why would you NOT care? Of all the possible places we could have moved to, the idea of moving to a place that was NOT an actual community, never made it to the "great ideas" list. This is a community. It's enormous, and it keeps growing, but it's still a community.
To me, it's no different from asking if I care about the person sitting next to me in the pew if I went to church. I don't have to know them, to care about them.

I live much further north than average. While I don’t care a great deal about what is being built, I do care very much about what’s not being built, which is enough of both Executive and Championship golf. The lack of adequate golf per capita (I’m not talking about pitch and putts and putting courses) in the newer areas is causing the northern courses to become more crowded than ever before. The results of that include increased difficulty getting good t times during busy season (especially the Executives) as well as the extra stress taking its toll on the courses conditions. That being said, I can think of at least three things that have been built in the newer areas that I like. We enjoy periodically visiting Edna’s for a bite and some live entertainment while sitting under the beautiful live oaks. We also periodically enjoy trailering our bicycles down south to ride on the pathways that don’t allow golf carts. But unequivocally, what I like the most is that the new high school finally has its own swimming pool so they no longer invade Laurel Manor and take up lots of valuable lap swimming time at the expense of amenity fee paying residents.

In TV since early 2006. We have seen a lot of building in the last 18 years. The Developer has done good. We have less interest in what is going on south of 44 but still remain curious rather than “really care” because that is just who we are so to speak. Like some we are on our third house in TV. We have been married much longer than most but not to a particular house. To each their own.

Yes, I do care. It’s nice to know the developer continues to be involved. I went south off 44 once 3 years ago. That was good. I still remember it. I find no need to do it again.

You take the time to read the posts and watch the videos about the South and now you've taken time to start a post about it. Think about what that says about you for a second. If you don't care about all that stuff just pass it buy. You're old, life is short, why on earth would you spend your precious little time on this? Go for a walk or golf cart ride, go listen to some music (at Spanish springs) do any things fun and enjoy your life. Please don't be bitter and waste what's left. You can't get time back.

We live south of 44 and we actually take long cart rides on the weekends to go explore the northern areas. We’ve been across the SS bridge twice in the past few weeks. There’s some really neat things to see all over TV. We stop at various rec centers and the squares too get water, play pool, etc. while we’re out and about.
There’s no need for a north v. south division. All of us pay for access to the entire Villages community, so we use it!

I’m just the opposite. I rarely travel north of 466a, and hardly ever go north of 466. Why go north when it’s old looking, more traffic, much slower traffic, sharing Morse with golf carts (dangerous) whereas we have just the opposite of that down here: walking/biking only trails, trails that are beautiful separating ponds and preserves, great condition golf courses, and updated home designs.
I like Sumter Landing and Brownwood, never go to Spanish Springs. I think the best looking area in all of TV is the Fenney area and that is south of me but now easy access because of the new bridge.

People are often interested in more than just their own little community.
Go ahead and not be interested, that is fine. And honestly, with your attitude, people are hoping you do what you say and stop caring enough to stop complaining.

I care and am excited very much about all the new expansion south of 44. It’s why I, and thousands like me, moved to The Villages in recent years. Soon, the majority of Villages residents will live south of 466A, and later 44.
With that said, I am equally excited and engaged in the changes north of 44, especially watching the changes occurring in Spanish Springs. I live in Richmond, and have no qualms taking my cart up to Spanish Springs (I’m in two clubs up there, plus I frequently attend events at the Sharon and Savanah as well as cooking demonstrations at Nancy Lopez Legacy Restaurant). I also enjoy First Responders Rec Center, and occasionally dine at Orange Blossom CC.
I think I speak for the majority of Villages residents who are “engaged’ and take advantage of all that this wonderful community has to offer, regardless if it’s “north” or “south”.
If something here were to annoy or disturb me, I suppose I would stop watching videos about it, and wouldn’t bother taking the time to amp up my resentment by posting about it. Retirement is wonderful, and I like to count my blessings everyday that I am so fortunate to be living in this one-of-a-kind community (yes, I’m still saying that almost two years in - that cool-aid effect hasn’t worn off yet!)

Those southern areas are going to be spectacular in about 10 years when when all built out with the conveniences of grocery shopping ( other than Publix), restaurants, other shopping, and medical services. At our ages now, we’re not willing to live in a construction zone and have to travel for the day-to-day needs. We love our location “between the sixes”, and while we’ve checked out many areas south of 44 over the past couple years, it’s still too remote for us. YMMV.
It seems like the developer learned and corrected “mistakes” previously made, ie, no more mobile homes, dedicated walking, biking, and cart paths. We want the Villages to succeed in whatever ventures they undertake, even though we chose a home outside of the technical boundaries. As the Villages go, so goes the entire area.

Speaking of north vs south, according to my TV sales agent, Central Parkway (located south of the Turnpike and running east/west) will, in the far off future, become the center of The Villages.

I did not see any reference in any of the comments about the increased property taxes paid by residents north of 44 to support the growth of The Villages south of 44. The Developer does not pay a Fire Impact fee for new homes and commercial buildings; the costs of new firehouses and vehicles are paid by the current property taxpayers. There is a road impact fee, but it does not cover all of the cost of new roads, etc. The difference is paid by the current property owners. Do you enjoy paying for the expansion of The Villages?

The school complex in Middleton is incredible and Eastport is going to be something really special. The party is pumpin' every night in St. Cats and Edna's is as cool of a place to chill as ever. Golf courses coming online right and left down here. I'll admit, it's a completely different culture down south vs. up north but they've both got their charms.

Do you care about problems or issues people are having in California? How about Idaho? How about Ukraine? I do. It’s called compassion for your fellow humanity. I especially care about what is happening in The Villages. That includes ALL of TV. What good things happen south of 44 is a DIRECT reflection on TV overall. We live in the Northern area of TV, near Tierra Del Sol and appreciate Don Wiley's videos. As the "footprint" of The Villages expands, so do our amenities - we all have access to the new Rec Centers, Golf Courses and Hiking Trails. Although there are fewer Executive golf courses in the "new areas", there are plans to build more "down south", so my wife and I look forward to playing them. To work on our short game, we play a pitch-and-putt once a week, including Mickey Lee. We can't wait to try out the new Executive Golf Courses that are being built once they're completed.

That is interesting about moving often. We are just the opposite. We moved to the Historic Area in 2005 and really NEVER saw any need to move. I played in Villages basketball pickups and Senior Events. I played volleyball, softball, table tennis, badminton, tennis and track
. I shot archery, swam in local pools, and once fooled around at horseshoes. All that plus investment clubs, ti chi stretching clubs, and even karate. All of that with easy driving distance from the Historic Area. I rarely drove south of Sumter Landing.
......We are satisfied with our house. It is not perfect, but to us the main point of The Villages is the activities. I think that our lot size is somewhat small, but I read that the lot sizes in the newer areas are EVEN smaller.
......I don't particularly like the summers here. We had a summer house up north for awhile, but 2 houses became difficult to maintain.
........I just never thought that we would GAIN anything by buying and moving to a house south of RT 466.

I care more about all the apartment towers, trailer parks, and homes that Don shows us in videos around the borders of the Villages. These buildings will add large additional populations who may depend on the Villages squares for entertainment, the restaurants and may try to use the pools and rec centers. Some crime and traffic will also follow this population increase. There seems to be a demand for these apartments and homes, but they can't all be housing for people who work in the Villages. I, like Don, wonder why they want to live in Wildwood and Lady Lake and where they will work. Could they be rented by family or friends of seniors who live in the Villages?
(Title should be demand exists, but why?)

As the area grows there will be more stores such as groceries and restaurants to meet the demand. As far as I can tell most Villagers hardly ever go to the squares for entertainment once they are here for awhile.

Yes, I love to watch and listen to Don Wiley. He describes so well a very well planned and working community for generations to come. No where else do you see or have a developer and his family who LIVES on his or her planned community like ours, and make sure that it is done well, and listens to the people who live there.

That’s not quite right, we have developers, large developers, that live in my city up north. I mean what kind of development would it be it, that is not good enough for the builder themselves? Unless they are building subsidized housing or rental housing.

I've only seen about 3 of those videos, that was some time ago when I was curious about the (then new) expansion ( Finney area) was first started. To me it's rather irrelevant because I've actually come to not even think of that area as part of The Villages, believe it or not ! I think of it more as I do of Eustis, Mt. Dora,Tavares, etc. just a series of small towns (villages). As far as "enough already", personally I don't care how many videos, updates, etc. etc. are developed and posted since I am NOT required to read or watch them at all ! Others probably like them and watch often, while I am sure still others wait and hope for daily postings and new videos. Since these videos and updates harm no one, I say "why not" ? ?

This should add another 20 posts to this thread……:popcorn:
Only 20, LOL ? Wasn't this about a guy named Don Wiley posting videos which one resident thinks it being over done... and now we are on taxes, impact fees (or whatever one chooses to call them, etc. etc. That's why I just can't seem to "break" this habit, can never guess what will be posted ... LOL !

Actually, yes!
Don’t forget all those others on YouTube making TV content. I watch several of them, too!

I'll wait til the literal dust settles to explore south/west of Sawgrass. Lived in Deluna. It was great just not convenient to everything I needed to do up by LSL where my parents need help on a daily basis. Totally different experiences relative to nature and outdoor activities (aside from pools, rec centers and golf).
I prefer N of 44 because beautiful stand alone MVP paths seem to be dying off the further south you go. 20 years from now south of Sawgrass will still not have shadey paths, palms are considered weeds now in FL. Count the Oaks they plant down there. They are celebrating moving 1 old Oak tree... yahoo, I digress.
The 4th generation "developers" don't get the significance of the golf ride experience. My prediction is in the next 15 yrs of development the over 55 element becomes smaller and the under 55 areas become larger. The golf paths will fade all together. Baby boomers will be gone. 1964 is the last of us so the need to provide leisure beauty will be gone. But for now, there are beautiful shady places and MVP paths near Chitty Chatty, Deluna and Everglades, that should keep those in the dust bowl feeling happy ;) .

then I might care about something I can't control. . until then, I got other stuff to worry about. .

The irony is the vast number of younger folks visiting mom/dad or the grandparents, who are LOVING those golf cart rides. Villagers are teaching their families what a "leisurely" drive really means, every time they visit. And the families are totally into it. When it's time for those kids and grands to retire, they'll already know what the joy of riding in a golf cart means.
The developers need to maintain that "specialness" of the experience. And yes that includes the little stop-off spots where you can park your cart and enjoy a brown-bag or take-out meal with friends at a picnic table, in the shade of a water oak.
When I ride down to Sumter from the Historic Section, I go past the 466/Morse intersection and under the first tunnel - then on the way to the second tunnel there's a little side-lot with space for a dozen golf carts. I often see people there, sitting together to enjoy a meal under the shade of the trees. There are picnic tables at Paradise Park too, on my side of 441, but I don't see them getting as much use as that other one closer to Sumter.
There are lots of little spots like that throughout The Villages and it'd be sad to learn that the developer isn't going to provide any for the new areas.

It's human nature to build walls...
Naperville IL is about the same size as The Villages....as that town grew, people always asked "which side of Rt. XXX are you on?"....that town is now almost a suburb commute to downtown Chicago.
Same holds true as The Villages consumes central Florida.
BUT...it's plain gracious humanity to let each of us choose freely and to identify ourselves with our family, neighborhood, town, county, state, and country ....oh, and which planet too...those darned Martians are out of control

As we are cruising around on our cart we often comment on what a great spot they failed to take advantage of. I think in the last week we've noticed 8 or 10 places they could put a small parking lot and some picnic tables and a few benches. They've done a great job as is but I would like to see a few more. Of course it all costs money and they have to strike a balance. Some of the giant oaks are begging for a bench it picnic table.

Do I care? Depends on the topic. I live north of 466. Because of our CCD structure and shared maintenance costs, I care that the newer areas are successful. I care that the new business are successful. The people who purchase homes need places to go for entertainment and dining. It is nice to take a road trip down to Edna’s a couple of times per year. If a new restaurant opens which offers good food and service we would probably go south to give it a try. I don’t care about the golf courses south of 44. Probably will not find me there. Don’t care about the entertainment at Sawgrass grove. For that matter Brownwood either. Don’t care about the people crying about folks from “down south” clogging up restaurants, golf courses, etc.
